Well, i was very bored so i decided to create a fan shroud for my header fan. i am a body guy by trade so i got creative with some bondo and thin strips of cardboard for the structure. from my first post on page 12 of the Add Front Fan Header To 360 Motherboard topic, i have removed the heat sink fan and just left the case fan. when i pictured the air flow, i felt it was uncontrolled and not very efficient. the space was very small and the structure had to fit like a glove, and it does. i got lots of pics for everyone to see. let me know what you think... click on these pics.

The shroud (sorry about the fuzzy pics, it was dark)

Here it is fitted in place

As you can see it took so modifing around components

The fan sits down into the structure. i tryed to design it to funnle the air flow evenly

I am ordering the Talismoon Whisper Fan. i think this will make a huge differance. i have changed the thermal paste. I think this mod will help keep the ram chips cooler too, beause they run down the channel under the dvd-rom.

You have got to be kidding me, I was just starting to think about doing something similar to this. I wasn't planing on doing anything nearly as complicated as yours though. That looks amazing. Man I'm at a loss of words for how well that came out. You should be proud.

Just a note for the thread, no replies saying "I want to buy that" or "how much" if this was a sales thread it would be in the BST.

Consider this your warning. People need to read the rules and we might start enforcing them harder.
MarutiDriver
Holy shit! Simply amazing!

So it's just carboard and bondo? Man, you must have worked for a long time on that.

Looks sweet, but i think it could use a bigger fan, and a top vent to really shine.
evans112682
It took a couple days. alot of sanding and test fitting.
shizzytrx450
very nice!! tongue.gif nice clean cuts looks really good

i made it to fit the 50mm fan on the case, and i dont plan on making a new one, or modding this one. too much work. maybe the Talismoon Whisper Fans will help pull more air because it is all one unit now.
DuBob4432
beautiful work. my only concern is that now you have cut off the airflow in form the side, so possibly limiting the amount of air the cpu heatsink can get. i guess it is not a big deal if it is sitting on its side, but if horizontal why not use the left "mesh" side as an air inlet?

just my quick thought, but overall, excellent, beautiful work smile.gif

Finally. I distinctly remember me coming up with such an idea months ago! I'd mention it in every thread that asked about cooling solutions. But personally, I don't have the equipment/time/etc to even attempt this.

Your design is a little bit different than what I had thought of.. But it looks amazing! Awesome job!
360-Sagacious
Weeellll...color me impressed. kudos to you on an innovated and top notch job. I tip my hat to you.
splank
I really like this, perhaps you could have layed those capacitors down on the motherboard so that you could make that "air guide" to the gpu a bit wider. If you understand blink.gif I think they should start mass produceing these, alot of people would be interested i think.
Good work tongue.gif
Boiker
This is fantastic. Hopefully you'll get some nice airflow over that GPU heatsink with that. Thumbs up from me cool.gif
jimbobjim
Very very nice. Like a couple of others in this thread I too had the same idea months ago but never thought for a second I could pull it off, especially that well. Well done.
malmeid2
Although I really don't agree that the thermodynamics present in this model are considerably more effective than without the extra shroud, I do have to say that it is very well made. I'm sure you put alot of time into it, and it shows. Well done.
henmill
that is beautiful, excellent craftmanship

not sure if you'll see drastic improvements in cooling with that, but definitely slight to moderate (from what i know ph34r.gif )

good job
darkmike57
Dude how much will you sell it for???

(Just joking mods! Dont ban me! I love you)

Is there any way you could show us maybe a difference in temps?

Like with the new shroud and whispers
Without the new shroud and with whispers
With the new shroud and stock fans
Without the new shroud and stock fans.

Sorry if thats much. But im really interested in this. I might to try replicate it. What did you make it out of?

that is so sweeeeeeet! its so beautiful!

i am so jealous! great job evans!

I would love to post some results. im ordering the whisper fans. could someone link me to device for sale to measure these temps. possibly something handheld and cheap???
darkmike57
I got an infrared thermometer from harbor freight tools for like 11 bucks.

They should start making custom fan shrouds like that, dude amazing job AMAZING looks like if it was supposed to be there biggrin.gif
oki
thats f-ing awsome! did something simular to my orginal xbox but it dident get neer as good locking as yours. nicely done love.gif

What did you make it out of?

A couple people have asked what its made out of so here is a pic. This body filler (for fixing dents) is the same thing as the bondo brand you would find at walmart, but i like kromate lite because its easier to sand. they make a finish product called a "glaze" or icing". that is very easy to sand in comparison, but i had this lying around. you can see the very thin card board i used as the skeleton. this was thin but sturdy enough to use for the construction of strait lines and curves. sand paper at least 100-220 grit and of course prime and paint... its like plastic when hardened.

hi guys before a few weeks i deside to make an extra air system to one of my 360 so i make this.
it is similar to evans patent but easyer to everyone.
So in a few days i will upload some jpg's with the diagramms.
You can make it from a simple carton paper and use a good plastic tape for the surface.
something like this

im super impressed, great job man, looks stock.

Im in the process of making my own mainly for the gpu and to acamadate the Paco freeze fan design..

It will basically just map out the gpu area, cuz idk wanna see it cuz i have a window

But its gonna be made out of a USPS box and some tape =]
OuTeR HeAvEn
my first attempt to show you my diagram enjoy.

Oh, so it's made of that kind of putty body repairers use to fill/smooth bent pannels? Man, there are tons of that stuff in the workshop I work for. We rent and repair cars in here so I can probably get some for free!

Never hurts to try.

And again, nice job, the shroud amazes me every time I look at it.

Amazing work!

i have found the thermometer i want and after parts are in i will be posting results some time next week. i will graph them as... stock(no header), header fan only(stock rear fans), wisperfans only(no header), header and wisperfans. and i plan on having 2 lines on my graph, one will be without fan shroud and one with fan shroud. hope to have them soon.
brandogg
The only thing I would suggest is to extend the GPU shroud so it goes over the heatsink and connects to the shroud on the rear fans. It looks pretty awesome.

Hi there i take some numbers today with my organ from inside the gpu with my shroud and my 12v 6inch fan
A.with ace combat 6 demo 45 degrees celcius.
B.with forza 2 the same .
C.with tenchu z 35 degrees celcius.
I was playing for an hour with the above games.
after that i jut pulled off the front fan and with ace combat i was reach the 67 degrees celcius.
i think this baby works fine biggrin.gif

Wow, those temps are quite nice with the shroud and fan. Can you take both out and get some stock readings for us??
If I ever open up my 360, this will deffinately be my first mod. Very nice.

Just letting you know: AWESOME work!
DuBob4432
any chance we can get a diagram of where you measured your temps an what thermometer? excellent work btw smile.gif
evans112682
Well, I have all my parts ordered now and hope to have them by friday or saturday. I want to have graphed results by sunday or monday if all goes well...

...whisper fans...blue smd ring of light...2 thermometers for gpu and cpu...

i print these 2 jpg into 2 A4 sticker papers and then i just stick them into a nice carton paper.
After that i cut them ,glue them and voila.
I want to share a tip with you guys if you saw evans case he drill the case and made some holes for the fan
this is no correct because the fan wants more open space to do better job i just try it and i know.
The best way is to cut a nice 6 inch hole for the fan like this.
Remember to glue the fan to blow air inside.IPB Image

OuTeR HeAvEn - why don't you start your own thread? don't thread hijack, not cool

also, i think you mean 6cm hole as 6inch is quite large
OuTeR HeAvEn
You have right for the fan my mistake.
Evans post his project before me but we thought the same and for that reason it is his project.
I dont try to hijack his post but to show my idea to everyone to do it with simple materials.
Its a nice and good mod and i just done it before again and again on many xboxes.
Sorry if idone something wrong i just wanna to help some peoples with my experience. sad.gif

what i am saying is just make your own thread - a new one that is all. there are always numerous ways to do something and i think yours is good, just make your own thread. it is not fair to evan as this is his thread.

The reason i drilled the holes was because i didnt like those ugly ass wire grilles. well i have come up with my new grille design. i have used a speaker grille and cut it down and made it into this shape so it would poke out a little instead of mounting under the case. i dont like screws on the outside of my case neither so i still have my mounts glued under the case. JB weld rocks.... still waiting on rest of parts...will have temps soon...

IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image

I may paint it a matte gray to match the hdd and side grills. i will decide after i get my blue displays, ring of lights and whisper fans...
evans112682
I added a pic of how i made this if anyone else would like any easy was to get the perfect shape. what ever size hole you put in your case, you will need a hole saw a 1/8'' bigger for the 2 wooden discs. this will make the grille the perfect fit for your hole. (my first one was too small becasue i used the same bit i made the case hole with. the pic below shows what i did. just cut the shape and cut small slits around the shape to allow the sides to take shape. you will need tabs for the glue (as shown). knock down sides with hammer. hope this helps someone...
