well heres my problem and i hope it makes sence to you guys because it doesnt make sense to me....well i had 1 360 for a long time and i have wireless through linksys.. the360 is in my basement while my modem\router\computer are upstairs...now a friend has brought over his 360...and has put it up in the computer room...he does not have the xbox wireless connection....i do not know how to enable him to go online....i have hooked the cables up from the back of my router to the back of the xbox..and it says the ip adress has failed... i just have no idea what do to...if anybody understood that and has a solution please help..

try resetting the router or unplugging and replugging it in. Could help.

Does your router have a DHCP server turned on? If it does, set all the settings on the xbox to auto. If it doesn't you'll have to set them up manually. If that doesn't change anything, try changing the mac address on the xbox.
My friend once had a similar problem, his router was a D-Link, though. He changed the mac address and everything was ok.
