Hi folks,

I have a xbox with K:2858. I'm not connecting this to live since I know it will patch the kernel, blow the fuse etc. I'll list the questions for lucidity.

1) How can I upgrade the kernel to just 4532, and not go beyond that?

2) Should I remove R6T3 right now? OR will the current kernel (2858) complain? Or will I get an error during the upgrade (it tried to blow fuse -> no response OR it sees that the old key == new key => error?)

3) Should I dump the contents (via infectus) even for 2858? I was thinking I'll first take off R6T3, upgrade to 4532, trying out the linux setup. Once I get the flasher, I can dump and THEN upgrade so I can play on live etc. Playing on live is of NO interest, so till then the ethernet cable will be out (as will other xbox's hard drives with newer kernels).

4) IS infectus the only flashing solution? It's kinda pricey in the US, eh?

1. Locate and burn HD_DVD_10-2006.zip (md5 cd4db8e2c94266ab73513c361dd5b8f6) to get to 4532.

2. Remove R6T3 either before or after upgrading, doesn't matter (as the efuses have not changed from 2858 to 4532).

3. I doubt dumping 2858 is necessary or useful, as the first kernels with this particular exploit were 4532/4548. I would dump the NAND when at 4532...

Thanks ! Any links to how to use the infectus programmer? I'm worried if I need to solder off the flash chip...

Also, I know the X drivers are unaccelerated as of now. Do we know what resolution/frame rate we get from the unaccelerated drivers? I'm talking about 2d/video performance. I don't care about a XBMC like sweet interface (though it would rock!), this exercise is worth is even if I can just play some HD videos off the wired LAN...

Also, how do we search effectively? I get this message when I use the search forum at the bottom of the page.

Here you can search the forum using Google's site search
However we suggest you try finding what you are looking for using the BoardTracker search first

This nor the search at the top is really useful since it searches all sub-forums. signal-to-noise ratio is crappy when searching across everything xbox-scene ...

Your linux resolution will match whatever you have selected in your dashboard (At least on a VGA cable). Took me a while to figure that out. Also, if you want to use hard drives between and updated and non-updated console, simply delete the update off of the hard drive. I've done that and it won't tell me to update unless I put in to new of a game. As far as frame rate goes, I wouldn't expect too much. I didn't try playing back any videos though. Check out the *nix section on this forum for a couple of good guides to linux. I have ubuntu 7.04 installed to my spare hdd.
