My tv only uses component for video but my home theater has an hdmi input for audio can the I use the hdmi for audio and component for video?

Yes. The method is extremely similar to one I just explained in a thread very recently. There is a separate option for video and audio settings, so each can be configured for different outputs. The video should be auto-detected, but for the audio you might need to manually select HDMI.
