lo all

Picked up a SH-D163A sata drive preflashed with kreon .80 today.

Problem is that Xbox backup creator 2.5 sees the drive, sees disks in the drive fine but the read tab and options are greyed out.
Schtrom and wxripper both cant see the drive at all.
The drive is seen and usable as a straight DVD in windows. The mobo is an asus KV8-X SE with a VIA8237R chipset that is able to flash the 360 itself with no problems. BIOS is latest. Drivers are latest. Machine in general is tip top.
Tried it on both SATA channels. Tried removing my burner and 3 of my HDs just leaving my boot HD and the kreon drive. Tried everything i can think of basically and no joy.
Its teasing me! it knows its there but wont let me use it! sad.gif Im at that kicking the crap out of the PC stage im sure a fair few of you are familiar with smile.gif

Any ideas?

Edit: Hadnt thought to reflash with the kreon .80 again so tried that, gives me "The Firmware is not compatible with the selected drive. Contact your system manufacturer for information on firmware updates available for this drive". WTF does that mean?

Trying to backup just cause if that makes any difference?

Heres what XBC gives me -

Is the DVD drive brand new?
Madmuhfuh
Yeah, new and preflashed.

For what its worth, why not try reflashing?

SH-D163A Kreon Firmware

Flash SAMSUNG SH-D162C or SH-D163A hacked Firmware:

this step only has to be executed one time because the KREON Firmware remains in the drive
forever or until you flash another firmware into it.

- make sure there is no CD/DVD inside of the drive!!!
- start (doubleclick) sfdnwin.exe
- select your Samsung drive from pulldownmenu: TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D16....
- at the top left click "DOWNLOAD FILE OPEN"
- select file: SH-D16.......XB360_KREON_....bin
- at the top left click "START DOWNLOAD" (button in the middle)

after successfully flashing the drive you will receive the message: "DOWNLOAD OK!! RESTART WINDOWS."

Reboot your pc. You can now use the drive for making legal Xbox-360 Backups.

I have a feeling that is information that you already know, but I am sorta stumped on this problem at the moment honestly!

UPDATE Sorry I just realized you tried to reflash but it didnt work. If I were you, I would definately try and return it or get a new one, and see what happens. Either that, or how about go for the SH-D162C? Its IDE instead of SATA, so maybe that will help?

Just pulled the drive to see what the labels say and lo and behold its a SATS-H353A, not a SH-D163A at all.

Is this legit and just not supported as yet or have i been fucked? Sent the guy i bought from a demand for my cash back so we`ll see how that goes. sad.gif

edit: just tried reflashing using -nocheck and getting the "flash cmd fail!" error now. Found another thread on here of people suffering the same fate so i guess im fucked sad.gif is this the only option for sata now? i only have the option of sata, running 4 HDs, so if this is all thats available i guess im screwed sad.gif

Update: OK still no joy with XBC, but ive now made 2 working rips using xdvdmulleter so the drive definitely works and it looks like its just XBC doesnt like it for some reason.

Redline99 - if you want to try and address this problem ill give you whatever help you need man. Doesnt look like itll take much of a fix.

You've probably sus'd this out already but the H353A drive is just a Toshiba-Samsung version of the Sammy D163A drive. I've got one, flashed it fine with -nocheck and 0.80 Kreon f/w. Its creating me backups nicely. No need to shoot the vendor!

Again, you may already know but there is an incompatibility with the H353A/D163A and VIA Sata. You'd need to have it on a non-VIA Sata channel to flash and use.

Another tip - try Schtrom v3.2 as another backup option.

Of course that may not be giving you any answer at all to your original XBC problem...
