HOLY crap i just found this post randomly on the net...

Anyway

i DO have windows xp running on my xbox!

I also have window 98 running at almost full speed (still tweaking)

I willl be very soon be writing a tutorial on how to run ANY Operating system on your xbox!

stay tuned! laugh.gif
Crunchbite
I am also trying to run "Mini XP" right now. (mini XP is a stripped down copy of XP)(pretty sure its not legal but whatever)
Crunchbite
Ive just started writing the tutorial for windows on xbox, which will describe EVERY step from getting the Xromwell Linux loader on your xbox, to a fully functional windows install! ohmy.gif
RMM
Sounds like you have made some good progress. Cant wait to see what you have come up with. Good luck in getting everything figured out.
Crunchbite
Oh don't worry I've already figured it out. laugh.gif

Im almost done the Tutorial. biggrin.gif
Crunchbite
I finished the Tutorial!

It is available Here and Here, In MS Word Format!

The video of windows xp on my Xbox is Here.

Hope this tutorial is of help! laugh.gif

Just in case anyone didn't realise, this is neither new nor very hard smile.gif

It's just running it under QEMU on linux and putting up with the lack of free RAM. smile.gif
Crunchbite
It is indeed old news, but it is new to me! Another reason i wrote this tutorial is because it seemed that the websites for the other tuts. had dissapeared! ohmy.gif

great tut crunchbite but slightly put off by the fact its only for xebian and not for xdsl..

QUOTE
I couldn't figure out how to install Qemu in XDSL

maybe this can help u to get it up and running in xdsl..

http://pspold.qj.net/windows-98-on-xbox.html

hopefully u'll figure it out and write a better tut for us linux newbs biggrin.gif
cant w8...

edit: the link in step 5 does work just right click save on the link and save with a rar extension.
Crunchbite
Thanks for the link! I've been looking for this for a while!
Reading it as I type this reply!

P.S. I'm a Linux n00b happy.gif well... sorta
Crunchbite
Alright! Ive figured out how its done in XDSL! (its not actually inside the XDSL Install!)

Writing the new tut! (Has Improvements on the one you gave me a link to!) laugh.gif

FAB! i had this done ages ago then i saw some activity in this section of the forum and thought i may help out, win98 works at near perfection just needs some tweaks and got the sound to work in qemu when i messing about with it on the pc before i transferred it to the xbox, although i never got the sound working for xdsl apparently i got to download some alsa s**t but cant get my head around on all these linux commands...so it was pointless for me to get the windows sound to work
ps hope you can sort out the xdsl sound problem and write a tut for that as well lol...
pss lol no its not in the xdsl install you realise that'll take like 10hrs! lol you do the install on the pc then transfer the image file and the qemu folder and the 98.sh files to the e: drive of the xbox...
psss sorry i could have wrote this a little clearer its 1am time to hit the sack..
Crunchbite
I already have it working perfectly (or almost) (no sound) in XDSL with 512 ram for qemu to use!
Im writing the tutorial now.

P.S. I find all this Extremely Easy, mostly because I've been doing stuff like this for 4 years. I believe my record number of times for installing windows in one day is 6, Today im up to 2!

Oh, sure. I didn't mean to imply you've not done something useful - there was indeed a lack of clear documentation for this one, and people around here obviously want that!

I'm just heading off the stupid questions from people who don't understand virtualisation, who have a tendency to assume progress where none exists.

nice! to get the sound working while you have the qemu on the pc, u need to install the sound drivers..
the below links explains it in depth.. (you need to edit some lines in the start.bat and the 98.sh)
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=388068

my start.bat looks like this (without the top and bottom dashes):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
@echo off
echo Windows For Xbox Kit 0.1 by m.e

qemu.exe -L ./qemu/ -boot c -m 128 -hda win98.img -cdrom win98.iso -enable-audio
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and my 98.sh looks like this (without the top and bottom dashes):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/bash
echo Loading Windows 98... -m.e
sudo /cdrom/qemu/qemu -L /cdrom/qemu/ -m 32 -hda /cdrom/win98.img -cdrom /dev/cdrom -full-screen -enable-audio
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

other peeps' setups look like this, flip back a page or 2 to see others (may help you out):
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...0167&st=255

to get the sound to work in qemu while on xdsl you have to get xdsl's sound drivers to work
this guy seemed to have gotten close but didnt work for me:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...p;#entry4072935

the developer has stated that he is messing around with alsa drivers to work with xdsl but havent heard on the development since then (its still on the xdsl to do list on his site):
http://www.x-dsl.org/wiki/XDSL_TODO

hope someone/crunchbite can get this to work!

ps crunchbite can you post how your 98.sh and start.bat looks like please or add to your tut (u probably already done this) this will help alot of people out and i reckon the mods shud sticky these tuts or sumfin b4 they vanish like the rest.
Evox117
I know that this isnt something new but I just thought that since this subforum has been dead for a while..that it might be nice just to add some spice to it...eh?
hXr.eXe
i'm just trying to ensure we have updated tutorials on how to get this running on linux with the most efficient speed with all the bells and whistles applied so we can get this stickied, so other people can come along and try this out without finding that the tutorials have been removed..and since crunchbite started before me in writing up the tutorials and hes better than me with all the linux cr*p and obviusly better with his english i might as well let him do all the writing up biggrin.gif
Crunchbite
Im still working on tuts and such... Had a small setback when i accidentally corrupted my modchip's bios...
Crunchbite
Im Reposting My Tutorial and Video because the structure of my website has changed dramatically
