Howdy folks,

Some help is needed.

I am unable to connect to xlink kai through xbmc. I can see games and players on my xbox (in xbmc). When I run the kai engine on my pc, i get all the sync message pop ups, so it looks like it's working, but when I try to connect in xbmc, I get a message that says my network is unreachable, and on my pc, the kai engine spits out an error message saying I should check my port forwarding. I have followed the tutorial on port forwarding (i have a belkin router), so I'm stumped. I turned off my firewall, which doesn't help.

My xbox ip is 192.168.2.11 (i set it manually)
my laptop nic ip is 192.168.2.3
my router ip is 192.168.2.1

Any ideas?

Thanks.

before trying to use XBMC with kai make sure you can play online using the PC UI ..

follow these steps ..

load halo2 (or game of choice) on your xbox ..

load kai on your PC .. click the globe at the top left , navigate to an arena and play ..

after that works theirs a manual on how to setup XBMC in the download section here www.teamxlink.co.uk ..

if you get that message than your port forward didn't work .. read this .. http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21240

Thanks for the swift reply.

I'm clearly a moron. By "load kai on your pc" do you mean run the kai engine? If so, I'm not seeing any globes, only the little network thing in the bottom right..

Scratch the last post. I am an idiot. I had not selected the "Launch UI" in kai config. Trying the rest of the stuff you sent. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again.

Hi again,

the UI on my pc keeps hanging when I try to go into the xbox arena. This usually happens when the xlink kai engine is running at the same time as I'm trying to connect to the internet. Any ideas?

Cheers

do you get the main chat ? .. what IP did you forward to ? .. did you add the port that you forwarded to the kai config under kai port ?
J@ymz
The ip i used in the port forwarding setup is the ip of my router - 192.168.2.1

I added port 30000 in the kai config.
c-2
k you need to forward to the ip of your computer .. make sure its UDP as well ..
J@ymz
Hi,

I tried to port forward using my pc's ip, but I get an error message on my router admin page saying that the port 30000 has already been forwarded. So I can only port forward port 30000 to one IP address. (hope that made sense..)

Cheers
c-2
ya you can only forward a port once .. delete the other forward and just forward it to your PC IP ..

J@ymz
Thanks bud.

At work now, so I'll give this a shot tonight and let you know if it works, or if I need some more hand-holding.

Hi,

No-go. I tried port forwarding using my ethernet NIC IP address (192.168.2.3) and I still get the port forwarding kai error in the bottom right of my screen. The Kai UI also hangs when I try to go into an xbox arena, and I also (sometimes) get an "invalid launch argument" error when the kai engine is launched.

Riddled with problems..

Any advice?

Cheers

p.s. I also have a wifi card on my laptop which I have disabled in order to use kai through my ethernet nic.
c-2
kai is being blocked by something .. what firewall software do you have ?

J@ymz
I have a windows firewall (disabled), McAfee (also disabled), and my Belkin Router also has a firewall (which I disabled in the setup (192.168.2.1).

c-2
i would try uninstalling mcafee .. once mcafee has blocked something it will continue to block it even if you 'disable' it .. comodo is a way better firewall anyway :]

J@ymz
Tried uninstalling McAfee. The Kai UI still hangs once I click the little globe.
c-2
what OS are you using ? .. are you sure your portforward is set UDP to the IP of the PC ? .. you don't have to disable your routers firewall , thats why you portforward .. also try opening the kai config and setting the option for PAT ..
J@ymz
Hey,

I'm using XP Home SP2. I tried enabling PAT in Kai, still the same result - once I click on the globe, I can see a list of all the consoles supported, but then it hangs with the infuriating "Not responding" message. Then in the bottom right, a message pops up saying "You are unreachable, check port forwarding." Any more information I can give you, or screen dumps of what I'm doing, let me know.

Cheers.
c-2
can i see pictures of your port forward page and kai config ..
J@ymz
Stupid question: How do I insert an image? When I click the "insert image" button, I'm prompted for a URL.
..It apparently isn't as easy as cutting and pasting a screen dump from paint. Sorry for being such a noob. Your patience is much appreciated. I can end this post and start a new one in the newbie section, as you probably don't want this section flooded with so many posts.

Cheers

J@ymz
...p.s. I've uploaded all my screen dumps to photobucket (after having found a similar post). Not sure how to display them on a post.

..after having looked through the Help options, it looks like I need an administrator to enable attachments, as I don't see it as one of my options.

Ok, here goes.

Belkin main page:

Belkin Port Forwarding:

Kai Config:

Kai UI:

..and in Kai UI, after clicking on the globe, this is where it hangs:

Cheers, hope this helps. Please forgive the huge post.

try taking off the port forward and setting DMZ to the ip of your computer as a test ..

the pictures look fine .. try it with PAT on and off .. are you sure your software firewall is disabled .. i know i sound like a broken record but kai is being blocked by something ..
J@ymz
Tried PAT on and off, no luck.

I went into my control panel and turned off Windows firewall, and have unistalled Mcafee.

Is there another way to connect to an online gaming server (..besides xbox live..) as it doesn't look like I'm able to use kai. Either that, or I'm being a total noob and missing something obvious.

Cheers
c-2
did you try this ? .. 'try taking off the port forward and setting DMZ to the ip of your computer as a test .. '
J@ymz
Hey, yeah I tried that - with PAT on and off. No luck.

c-2
what is your network setup ? .. are you using DSL ? ..
J@ymz
Yeah, I'm using an DSL (I'm pretty sure my Belkin Wifi router is ADSL..) modem into my wifi belkin router.

I have a wifi card in my laptop (which I disabled) and am using the ethernet nic in my laptop, because I read several times that trying to host kai on a wifi pc is not a good idea. My xbox is also wired into my router (along with my laptop).

If you want all the IPs and such, I can give you screen dumps of my network settings. Let me know if you need these, or more specific information.

Thanks again.
c-2
if your using DSL than your modem is a router as well .. its a 'smart modem' .. all DSL modems are now .. so you need to log into it and i suggest enabling DMZ to the ip of your router .. both your modem and your router have firewalls ..

sure post whatever pics you have .. if you don't want others seeing ips and such feel free to pm me :]

J@ymz
Hey,

I pm'd you my network settings.

Cheers
