ok here it is, ive been looking around and so far this is the chip to buy for me atleast. I really had my heart set on wiifree but since there are no sellers in the US i decided to look into other chips and since this chip can have other firmware on it i thought this was a good choice. just wondering if this is a good choice or not?

Any Opinions?

I guess Cyclowiz would be your best bet for a "for-profit" chip. Just recently did they add the ability to use other firmwares... so that's cool. The WiiFree firmware they released for it is still controlled by them though.. so it's not exactly "any ol' WiiFree firmware."

I personally would go for the whole WiiFree setup.

Get 3 FREE PIC12F629 chips from sample.microchip.com
Get a cheap 12F629/JDM programmer from Ebay (like $10-$15)
Get some wire, solder, etc
And that's all you need!

thanks for the input ill def. think about doing so.

Be sure to check out www.Nintendo-Scene.com's Modchip Comparison Chart ... It was just updated today to compare 2 separate things: The modchip hardware itself and the firmware itself.

Our resident tutorial and guide writer Twistedsymphony has overhauled our Wii Modchip Comparison Chart. Since many modchips now support multiple firmwares it has been split into two separate charts one that compares the various modchip hardware and hardware features and one that compares the various firmware and firmware features. Unreleased and clone chips have also been removed from the chart for ease of comparison. New features have also been added so you can now compare which firmwares offer hot new features such as Dual Layer DVD support as well as Game ID Overwriting.

i have one last question for now, where in the world am i to buy a cyclowiz? because i have found no place to. im not sure whats its about but im located in us and am having a hard time trying to locate any chips.
sicknasty413
That's because a lot of the big U.S. stores got raided...

And those that didn't took the chips off their site so that they wouldn't get raided as well.

You could try www.divineo.com .. not sure if they have Cyclowizs though.

EDIT-
Looks like divineo doesn't have any.

You could go the whole WiiFree setup. PICs, programmer, etc.. that may be your only option.

EDIT-
You could get one from here- www.modchipstore.com

well i figured it would have been a pain going the whole wiifree way but its a pain looking around for chips ok well looks like thats the only way to go so ill probably end up doing the wiifree.

so i was wondering what chip would i get from microchip.com?

i was also wondering if there is any type of tutorial for flashing the chip once i have the stuff for it?
sicknasty413
Go with a 12F629.

You can use this tutorial that I wrote.. it's not for particularly flashing WiiFree firmware.. but it's the same method.

the process for flashing the chip differs from programmer to programmer and changes depending on the software you use to flash it. So once you buy (or build) a programmer and find software that's compatible with your programmer you should look up instructions for that.

it's pretty damn easy though. I have a USB programmer from microchip themselves (it's an expensive $50 one) and it came with it's own software.

I basically stick the chip in the programmer, plug the programmer in, open the software, File->open the .hex firmware file and then click the big "WRITE" button laugh.gif

a status bar will pop up and let me know when it's done (usually takes about 3 seconds).

I would imagine it's not much different with other programmers/software.
