I have flashed my hitachi78 with the iXtreme fw. If Microsoft releases a new console update, if I restore my drive's fw back to its original, will it be safe for me to go on XBL and for me to be recognized as a "normal" console?

Absolutely no guarantees whatsoever, and I believe your question about XBL is against the forum rules. iXtreme is the best, most stealthed firmware to date... but that doesn't mean it's perfect, not by a long shot. If MS is able to circumvent the stealth in some way, they will. I don't mean to scare or discourage you, but flashing your drive is something you do at your own risk.

I'm not quite sure, but I don't think this is against the forum rules because I am asking something different than if I flash my drive will I be banned. If I restore the fw back to original, so my drive will be in its original state, would I be safe for XBL? Like can it still be recongized that I have modified at some point my fw?

This question is only answered by other debatable questions:

"Does the console log if it was powered on with sata cable disconnected?"
"Can MS fingerprint fw changes?"
"Does MS log backup detections when offline and ban you when you go online?"
"Does MS use ban lists to ban in waves?"

If any of these questions can be answered "Yes", then there is possibility of being banned after flashing back to an original fw. My opinion to these questions is : not yet, not yet, in the near future (offline detection but no log), yes. So I would say yes you can be banned but only if you would have been banned anyway in a ban wave (that is until the first two questions become "yes", then you'll be banned anyway).
