after typing mtkflash r/ m orig.bin it only lists 3 things but none of them is the Via Card.

Looks like it... you could have left the key.. its useless to anyone else.

I am a total noob so I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. Well still won't be finishing the flash till SAT or whenever my DVDr DL finally arives from Newegg.

Edit potential problem. the hacked firmware I just patched is saying MS28. Should I be worried?

Nope , all MS 25's get spoofed to MS28's when they get flashed , its nothing to worried about
