I have a 1.0 unmodded xbox with a dead HDD. I have a spare 1.1 xbox with a matching hdd. Is it possible to take the eeprom chip and HDD from the 1.1 and put em in a 1.0 xbox?

No. Three kinds of eeprom - 1.0, 1.1-1.5, 1.6
Easier to get a cheap modchip or build an eeprom reader.

false.

all eeprom chips are univeral. any board will boot correctly with any other version's eeprom chip installed.
its the code that isnt compatible, as you said above... but the chip itself will work fine.

why would you wanna run a 1.0 instead of a 1.1? i'd take a 1.1 anyday over a 1.0.
