Hey guys.. I got a customer coming back with a repaired XBox 360 console today that he wanted flashed, so I popped it open and got a huge shock, shat bricks and screamed like a little girl..

after about 5 minutes of crying in agony and rolling on the floor my customer asked me if I was doing okey.. I got to myself and remembered Id read lots of about BenQ and the new reading of Firmware from it.. + I even remembered the article I wrote on the subject on my Norwegian gaming console site..

I popped the BenQ drive open, cut the two wires as said in the BenQ Flash guide, connected two wires with a switch to the appropriate points, double checked that the points were cut properly and powered it up on my XBox 360 mod station (pentium 4 1,5ghz computer with 256mb ram and a SWEET ASS VIA VT6421A sata card continues in Dos mode ready to read and flash Toshiba drives) followed the guide but nothing,

DosFlash states that it finds 6 IDE channels and 2 SATA channels (everything hooked out except the sata cable) on number 4 it says that it finds : 0024D0 SATA Pri Master ATAPI PBDS VAD6028-64930C
Flash ManuID: 00, DeID: 0, Size: 0 bytes, Name: MTK Vendor Intro failed.
and when I push 4, it says:
Unknown flash chip!

I double checked that I was doing it right, plugging in the sata cable after pc turned on, then holding my fingers at the switch which is in off mode, turning on my xbox 360, one second after flicking the switch on on mode and I hit enter on the keyboard executing Dosflash.exe from the diskette station.

I was doing it rite..!

but still, nothing..

Now im not the guy that usually asks for help, but I wanna get this working..

My BenQ is August2007 edition, maybe the firmware dumping feature has been removed?

Mine is a July 2007 version of the Vad6038.. pretty weird that it wont work,

cause Ive understood it correct that if the Sata card used can read/write to TS drives it can also read/write to BenQ's using Dosflash?

I mean, it found it, even stated its name, but gave same error message as if it was not wire fixed..

I had problems with my VIA PCI card recognising my BenQ (the same card I always used for doing Samsungs). I tried it on my girlfriend's PC in which the motherboard has an nForce 4 chipset - it worked straight away.

So I guess my point is it might be worth trying different SATA controllers if you have the option.

I have a SIL3112 that doesn't even see the drive.

Same problem here. My onboard intel isnt found in dos flash and my via pci card sees the drive but Im getting the MTK vendor intro failed problem. Damnits.

Listen up guys,

For those of you with problems with dumping BenQ VAD6038 try this out:

Now I did this on my BenQ VAD6038 Rom version 64930C July 2007-

In dos, using latest Dosflash 1.1 beta, and having the BenQ drive connected through SATA and Xbox 360 through POWER I type this:

Dosflash R 24D0 1 A0 1 4 a:\original.bin

This is in MANUAL mode, not in AUTO mode, where R means 'Read', 24D0 is the 'Port', which youll see when you just type Dosflash and it doesnt work, 1 means SATA, A0 means Master, 1 means serial flash and 4 means flash size in numbers of banks.

Now, you type the command above in, without pushing enter yet..

Then hit enter while you push power button on your XBox 360 console, you might need to flip the switch and try back and forth until it works.. thats what I did..

1. attempt: I did as the guide said: turn on the console, 1 second, flip switch, hit enter..
1. result: didnt work

2. attempt: did the same command again, this time when the xbox 360 had been on for about 30 seconds
2. result: didnt work

3. attempt: I turned off the Xbox 360, let the switch be on "off", and at the exact same time push enter to execute command..
3. result: then it just said "reading bank 0" and I was smiling crazier than a fat kid in a candy store..

Hmmmm or did it. The .bin is there but it isnt opening in f/w toolbox 4

Opened the .bin in a hex editor and it looks like a valid f/w. Strange that it can't be opened with f/w toolbox 4 though.

Im still having problems. When I boot with the switch off it just says MTK vendor intro faild but when I boot with the switch on it freezes dosflash. Is the power light supposed to be solid or flashing?

hehe,, nice to hear bud.. you cant use Maximus to fetch the key, you need to get it with this method:

use hex workshop or any other hex editing program to look for 3DUfw in text, or CCDDEEFA in hex editing, and the line you need, which is your key, is between FA and FFFF FFFF FFFF like in the picture.. be ware that you get 32 digits..

this line you can patch into Maximus, to hack the firmware and then spoof it.. but if you got the same rom version as I: 64930C you need to write the spoofing manually in hex as well, as maximus doesnt support that rom version of BenQ..

Ive tried now on two different GDRL 3120 hitachi drives, and it doesnt work.. both of them are now semi bricked, windows reckognises them as SCSI SATA cd-rom but none of my flashers (birdy/maximus) will reckognise it as GDRL3120, says its wrong ROM file on it.. dunno how to fix it =/ any advice?

Follow the original method of 'switch off, xbox off' then xbox ON then 1 sec later switch on then flash.

Are you manually typing in the command that I did? and edited the port for your system?
what sata card you got?

with the experience Ive got now I can only help you guys get your DVD-key.. spoofing/patching/hacking the dvd-drive to support BenQ xbox 360 mobos I cannot do atm, Ive tried, and failed epicly, semi bricking 2 drives now, and the guy that was helping me is offline.. so.. =/

What lines to do edit to spoof? I have a Hitachi too that I'd like to try.

Do you think your hex-editing fucked the drive then? If it's spoofed then no hitachi flashing programs will wanna touch it

Im not sure tbh, flashing usually means its in modeb.. so I guesse flashing? cant remember, I could try and dump it again to find out if you want?

Depends how much you want to help me haha. Im about to punt this drive of a bridge though.
