tried doing 'option 1' from the xbmc.com online wiki. messed everything up. now my xbox boots to "service required" screen.

how can i fix this?
dankwonka
to further elaborate. i tried changing the dashboard .xbe file as described here:

http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index....=As_a_Dashboard

however, it obviously didnt work and i cannot gain FTP access to my xbox to fix the problem.

my xbox was soft modded. can i burn i boot disk from somewhere and fix it?

i got a recent copy of "auto installer" hoping that if i burn it it might work on my xbox but i was tried to do this on my os x machine and had not luck.

anyone now of any solutions for me to explore, again i am on an os x machine.

thanks

I don't know if you had the same exact problem as me, but I originally installed my softmod with AID and it was all down hill from there. I used Cash 1.1 and finally got things right. I had an error saying service was needed, Error 13. I put in the game I modded with, MechAssault, and ran the exploit again to make things right. Don't know if this will help, but google was my friend throughout the process.

You say Mechassault worked with an error 13?
Put in any LIVE game(eg. Halo 2) and it should reinstall your dash.
Redo the softmod with Krayzie's NDURE.

You can make XBMC your default if you put the shortcut file in E:\Dash that is if you use Ndure. Correct me if I'm wrong.

my problem is:

A: on a mac running os 10.4 how can i do most of the things suggested that i find in the forums

B: a friend softmodded it for me using the splintercell method. i dont have a memory card or the game to redo anything.

anyway to just burn a disc of something and make it so i can at least get FTP access and then try to fix the issue?

Find a copy of Slayers disk and burn it. It will give ftp access and maybe you can undo what you did through ftp.

Do you know how it was softmodded? What dashboard were you using before you tried to switch? Do you know what drive you dashboard was on E: or C:?

what is slayers disk? any idea of how/where to get it?

i'm pretty sure it was soft modded with the splinter cell/ memory chip thing. i think i was running unleashX off of the E drive?

http://slayer.xbox-scene.com/

I could help you out with slayers iso.

Okay so did you try and use the TeamXBMC shortcut or the Team UIX? Which set of instructions did you follow at that link you posted earlier?

The XBOX must be booted into a softmoded state for Slayers to load. slayes only works on Hardmodded xboxes. If originals load, put any Live game and it should reinstall your dash. Mechassault should work. If it doesn't install anything go into the Live menu of the game and it should redo everything from there.

EDIT: Is your Mac an Intel? Use something like Virtual PC, Bootcamp, etc so you can use Windows

Slayers will still load if he didn't completely hose his softmod. (which it sounds like he didn't).

If he is getting a dashboard launch error there is no way a boot disk will load, a softmod loads with the dash and you cant run unsigned code until the exploit loads.

Go and hire splintercell, start the xbox with the game in the drive then try to load saved game from the hdd, hopefully your friend left the exploit game save on the hdd, if so you should then be able to reinstall.

Sorry didn't read you chose option 1. You should have used the TeamUix shortcut that comes with xbmc for easiest results and put all your old dash files into a seperate folder, then renamed the shortcut to whatever you dash xbe was named.

Without the game or mem card to redo the mod using a retail disk to restore the dash isn't gonna help him much.

Your gonna have to buy/rent the splinter cell game...should be like $3-4 and hope that the exploit save is still on there. If it is you should be able to redo the softmod or at least get ftp to fix whatever you messed up. Or take it back to whoever modded it for you and get them to redo the mod.
