As I haven't been banned (yet?) I'm curious how important setting the book type to DVD-ROM is. If not set properly, can Microsoft detect it? When I started burning my backups I checked the book type setting in DVDInfoPro once (it was set to DVD-ROM) and as my backups worked I never looked back at it. Now with the recent bans I decided to check this one out again.

According to DVDInfoPro the book type of my DVD+R DL is still set to DVD-ROM, all my games boot on iXtreme (Hitachi), but when I look at the book type of my backups with certain programs they return me "DVD+R DL" ánd "DVD-ROM", the results (of my backup disks):
in Nero: DVD-ROM
in ImgBurn - Physical Format Information (ADIP): Book Type: DVD+R DL (and Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D00-01)
in ImgBurn - Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Book Type: DVD-ROM (and Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D00-01)
in Xbox Backup Creator (latest version): Media type: DVD+R DL

I'm using a NEC ND-3540A (with latest firmware - v1.04) to burn my backups.

Can anyone tell by looking that these results if the bitsetting to DVD-ROM is going right?

Cheers,

Setting the booktype has nothing to do with banning. The modded firmware on your drive does. All setting the booktype does is write your DL DVD+R format disc (and single layer DVD+R discs) with the booktype set to DVD-ROM which allows it to read like a factory pressed disc, hence greatly improving your compatibility. Anyways, yes when you take a look at the program and it tells you the booktype is set to DVD-ROM then you have done it right. So no worries. With the latest firmware it isn't 100% necessary but it certainly doesn't hurt anything.
