well 1080 stands for the resolution and ur monitor can only do 1050... so no ur monitor will NOT do 1080P, and running ur dvd thru it at that resolution might damage something fyi.
if u want a monitor to run 1080p get a 24" monitor or bigger that does 1920x1200 resolution then you'll be good.

Your monitor isn't 1080p so you shouldn't expect to get a 1080p picture (1920x1080 resolution) from it. It doesn't physically have the ability to display 1080p. What's probably happening with your up-converting DVD player is that it is not actually sending a 1080p signal. I would assume that there is a setting on the DVD player to have it display "up to 1080p" in which case it will display at a lower resolution (probably 720p in this case if it looks good - as most monitors don't have a great de-interlacer) and simply let your monitor scale the image. So while you think you are getting 1080p from your DVD player, you are probably getting a lesser resolution and having your monitor do the scale to fit work. In any case, VERY FEW monitors actually accept a progressive input source ABOVE their native resolution. It's much more common to up-scale then it is to down-scale as far as monitors are concerned.
