Hey guys,
I seem to be having a heck of a time reading backups once they are burned. I am using Verbatrim DL media at 1x (actually 2.4x because the media seems to force that speed), and I have gone as far as performing the pot calibration on the drive.
Some backups play ok with minor glitching but most either fail with dirty disk errors or don't play at all (open tray ect.).
What do I need to do to get a higher success rate with reading disks?
I am using a Lite-on DVDRW LH-20A1H burner. The xbox has a Samsung MS28
Thanks!

Do originals play ok? If so, look by the barcode on the Verbatim spindle, see if those discs are made in Singapore or India. Singapore should make for more reliable burns.
Also, some more people might come up with some insights if you mention a little more info, like what firmware you are running in your 360, and how you made the backups you're burning.

It could very possibly be your burner.. I had that model and had nothing but endless problems with my burned discs. I ended up getting totally pissed at it after making countless coasters that I ripped it out and beat it with a hammer lol. I bought a sammy burner and havnt made a single coaster. All backups work without any probs at all. I'll never buy another liteon again.

The media is made in Singapore... I am running iXtreme 1.3 at I believe (if I recall correctly) 5x.
I am burning from ISO and using DVDMulleter to make sure the security sectors and layer split are there and correct...
How are the Pioneer drives? I wos told by one person that I should get a new Pioneer drive and that would solve my problems... Would a Samsung drive be better?

The general concensus is that the Pioneers are the best for making backups, I use an HL-GSA H55N and it works fine.
One thing though, and may be of help to you, try making your backup at 4x. In my case, every backup I've made at 2.4x freezes or otherwise gives me problems, and everything I've made at 4x works perfect. All backups made in singapore verbatim.

Ok cool, i'll giev it a try at 4x...
Should I also consider changing the firmware to 2x?

Try an original and see if you're having read issues with those as well. Might help figure out if it's a problem with the 360, or if it's a problem with your burner/iso.

Ya, Originals read just fine... It's only the burned versions...

So how did the faster speed burns go? I personally have never burned slower than 4x. Then again I am running a Pioneer 111D drive with TDB V1.29 firmware. I love Lite-Ons for scanning and ripping but I don't care much for them in their burning capacity.
