Sony Computer Entertainment Europe passed along some figures today regarding the next-gen disc format across the pond. Total Blu-ray Disc movie sales across Europe have now surpassed one million units. Moreover, of the high-def movies purchased by consumers this year in Europe, 73 percent have been in the Blu-ray format (the other 27 percent being HD DVD, of course) - through the week ending November 4, according to Media Control Gfk International.

In the latest week ending November 4, Gfk said that Blu-ray movie sales, which totaled 66,000 units, were at their highest level since the format's debut. This was attributed to the release (in some markets) of titles such as 300, Spider-Man 3, Die Hard 4.0 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

How many of these movies are 'Pack-ins' with the PS3. just now in the UK you get a minimum of 2 Blu-Ray movies with every PS3 through Game and Gamestation. Plus all of the free copies of Casino Royale and Spiderman 3 that have been given away to PS3 owners.

As soon as Asda and the other supermarket chains start selling sub £100 HD DVD players the market will swiftly turn around.

Also, note that the HD DVD only Transformers Movie has not been released in Europe yet. (Out next week)

You also get 5 movies free with HD-DVD players as well, it doesn't seem to have eaten into the comparison figures. If you look you will also see the latest figures also show the same trend and the free casino Royale factor is not in those.
Amazing how people say the key to PS3 sales is more games yet the fact that there are more BR movies out is totally ignored as a reason why someone would purchase a BR player.
As for the £100 HD-DVD players. Where are they? When are they coming into stock at Asda? My guess is around the same time as £100 Funai Blu-Ray players.
