Full Version: Kreon Checker Is Saying Good Ss...even To Renamed Jpeg's!

After the recent banning started taking place I made sure to take the SS's from all my games and check them with Kreon Checker. Being a bit suspicious that every game I ripped was good (how could I be so lucky?) I opened one of the ss.bin files in notepad and typed in a bunch of junk. I saved it, and KreonChecker said it was a good SS!

Figuring that wasn't enough, I took a picture off my camera and renamed it from .jpg to .bin. Kreon Checker said it was a good SS rip!!

Obviously something is wrong here. I would appreciate some insight before throwing all my backups away. Thanks!

Step 1. If you have not already done so, update to iXtreme 1.4
Step 2. Delete the Kreon checker from your computer. It is now useless because you have completed step 1.

Oh. I did already update to iXtreme 1.4. I am just scared to turn on my XBox 360 because I may be banned using a game Kreon improperly ripped the SS from. Are you saying Kreon checker is useless because I have iXtreme 1.4, or is it useless in general? I'm just wondering how the hell it says a renamed photo is a good ss rip.

Checker most likely only checks for the bug that was occuring, if it doesn't find it it most likely just says the rip is good.

Okay thanks. Since I have 1.4, is it dumb to reburn anything giving a bad SS?

I just ripped COD4 and ran the check and got... "Bad Kreon Rip"

So the program works...

Guys, the "bad kreon rip" theory was debunked. The bug was in iXtreme 1.3 NOT in the kreon firmware. The bug is fixed in iXtreme 1.4, so update and throw away the kreon checker!

Do i really need to update to 1.4 Ixtreme? basically 1.3 just spout out the bad kreon rip. 1.4 basically just gets rid of annoying part of using kreon checker and masks it. Basically the game could still be a bad rip.

I used the checker for Tales of Vesperia, but now I am starting to realize that kreon checker was just useless from the start anyway. Since now there is no confirmed evidence that supports. I have no probs updating, I'm just curious whether or not its worth it and is it going to prevent anything. Since you can pretty much get banned at anytime regardless.

Soulreaper, you totally misunderstand the issue. I am not going to retype the technical details, as I and many others did it months ago when the rest of the world was paying attention. The summary version is there was a bug in iXtreme 1.3 which under certain conditions would return an invalid value for the disc angle (mathematically, an angle can have a value from 0-360, but iXtreme was returning values > 360). This was finally discovered and fixed, thus iXtreme 1.4 was born.

All Kreon Checker does is determine if a disc could return an invalid disc angle when using pre-iXtreme 1.4 firmware. There are other factors involved (think "jitter"), so it's not guaranteed to happen, but "Bad Kreon" means it is possible.

But again, the bug was with the firmware, not Kreon rips (it could also happen with 0800 rips, although less often). There is nothing at all wrong with a disc that reports "Bad Kreon" and a more accurate message would read, "Pre-iXtreme 1.4 firmwares have a bug which cannot reliably handle security for this rip." If you are running iXtreme 1.4, you need not worry, because works as it should have all along.

Hope that explains why you need to upgrade.

Hi toddler,

I didnt misunderstand you at all, I may have not used the right wording, but i know exactly what happens. Im just saying the bottom line is that regardless of what you do in the long run you always have to be aware you could be banned at any given time bad rip or not or regardless if you have ixtreme 1.4. Your chances of being banned maybe a little less by using it, but at the end of the day you still run the risk.

Which why I said do you really need to update to 1.4. Is it that significant of an update. No harm, sorry.
Toddler
Everything you wrote screams that you don't know what Kreon Checker did or else you wouldn't have referred to "bad rips" and "masking" problems. If you know exactly what happens then you shouldn't be asking whether you need to upgrade. Yes, it is significant. You are a fool if you knowingly run a firmware that will eventually get you banned, but do what you want.

Hey, not to get off track here, but that means that a drive with kreon firmware has always been fine, and I shouldn't worry about my rips being not stealth enough?

The only reason I ask is because I stopped using some of the backups I made with my Samsung drive with kreon fw after that whole kreon checker stuff started going down. I had upgraded to the latest iExtreme months ago, and would love to start using the drive again for backups.

Anyway, anyones input would be awesome.

Thanks
Toddler
There is no such thing as "Bad Kreon" and I can't say it any plainer than that. If you're using iXtreme 1.4, then you have no reason to avoid using that drive for rips.
