Hi, I recently replaced my Xbox 360 DVD Drive. I replaced it with the exact matching drive. Now I can’t play games but I can play movies. Here is the kicker before I realized that I need the key off the old drive but I dumped it the garbage can. The drive is lost forever. Is there anything I can do to get the new drive to match the key on the motherboard of the xbox360? Everything I read on it tells me that is my issue. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I here this is the place to go to answers to questions like this.

I realize i am a dumb a**

Sorry to break it to you my friend but as of now there is not any way of extracting the key from the motherboard so basically your 360 is a dvd player now.

Actually it is coming closer to a time when we can because they are able to read and write to the key vault but I am not sure how far that can go. But right now it is not something everyone is doing. Unfortunately Just a Shadow is right. sad.gif Future reference, Always wait before throwing anything away when it comes to your 360. And keep your drive key backed up in a few different places.

Not true whatsoever - I wish people wouldn't just guess at answering questions.

Infectus already have a product which can do this - http://www.infectus.biz/features.php#360DOWNGRADER

It's a job and a half to do it, but it's doable nonetheless.

Sorry man.. I respect you and help alot of people out but you are wrong on this one...

To get your CPU key.. you need to run the KK exploit and the XeLL loader. You can't run the KK exploit without having a working drive with DVD-Key.

You can dump the NAND with infectus but you can't extract the keyvault...

So it is definately not possible now... in the future maybe.. but I think it will be a long time in the future.

Then how come the Infectus website doesn't state any of this???

To downgrade the 360 to a vulnerable kernel, you use the downgrader tool.

You can then use another tutorial to collect the nand.bin, 1bl.bin and fuses.bin files.

Finally, you can then use these files to get the cpu key and finally access the DVD key.

At no point does it state you need the KK Exploit.

I ask you to take a look yourself:

Read the 1st three English tutorials like I did before posting and you'll see for yourself.

Unless you read French, I think something was lost in the translation. The tutorial has a date of November.

To run the Gentoo Live CD it has to be on a modded Xbox.

I would direct you to read this thread

and

Caster420 and Arakon agree with me as of mid December. So unless there was a dramatic new development in the last 2 weeks... it can't be done the way you describe.

The French version looks to be translated from the English, so I don't think it will matter.

Even so, there is no mention in any document on this site that the KK exploit is needed with this downgrader.

After reading through it again, it asks you to boot Gentoo Beta 2 on the 360. Are we to assume that the KK exploit is needed at this stage? If so, should it have not been mentioned??
Havok
Exactly... if you read the french version the KK explioit is mentioned... at least in one of the sections.

As far as the accuracy of the tutorial... I didn't write it or translate it. I am sure it is correct. It is just assumed that you need a modded xbox. Since there is no way to run unsigned code without it.

No probs - I'm fully aware it's not your work smile.gif
