From xbox360fanboy.com: [QUOTE] If you're familiar with the Xbox Live Diamond Card program, then you know that membership in it entitles you to all kinds of deals from a bunch of online retailers as well as retailers in your neighborhood.
Starting in March, Microsoft's program partner Passport Unlimited will be taking complete control over the Diamond program and will begin charging an annual fee. $6.95 a year to be exact. Registration is closed until the transfer is complete and current members will keep their membership free of charge until their 2008 expiration date when Passport Unlimited will require payment to renew. nope.. but after turning a free rewards program type of thing, into a anual payment thing. shows how greedy they have gotten. back in xbox-one days, they gave out 1 or 2 month(forgot how long) free xbox-live services with certain games. now all u get is a 48-hour trial.

yup, I've never used mine either...
when it expires it will just go in the trash.
90% of the stores they offer discounts at are places that aren't even available in my area. the other 10% are either places I don't shop or the discount is for something that isn't useful tome.
when I signed up they were talking about discounts on games and I thought... gee I buy a lot of games this will be great. But instead they give you coupons for stuff like shoes and fast food.. I have no use for that.
The whole point of the program is to encourage you to spend money at the places where you get discounts.
so far I've saved $0 but I've also spent $0
if they want me to pay $7 to save $0 then count me out... thats another XBLA title or game off the discount rack...

LOL at the 4 people who pay for this. Mine has been collecting dust in the closet for months now.
The rewards are total crap, so unless they add some more services with the new annual fee, nobody will pay.

Maybe I will pay it if they actually start making the thing useful. Come one give us some places that we actually use. Who the heck wants to buy jump usa gear?

I have had my card for 2 years and never could use it anywhere. Now they want money for this shit. This is why I will continue to stick it to M$ as long as they are viable in my house. Kiss ass M$.

One of the funniest things is all you have to do is log on to the diamond website with anyone's user I.D. and you can print out any coupon you so desire. Granted I have one and never use it, this does work and that is pretty sad considering now they want to charge money to have that worthless piece of plastic...

I second everything you said. I signed up the first day it was announced.
But one difference is I have actually used mine. When it first came out, they had a Quizno's deal that saved me $1 or $2 so I used it a couple times. But I haven't used it since. And last I checked Quizno's hadn't been on there in a long time.
When the program first came out, I was very excited about it. But, like you, most places you get discounts at aren't even in my area. The deals aren't that great, anyway. Etc.
I also got a new one in the mail without asking or anything. It came about 6 months ago I want to say. It's in my wallet and so was my old one until they sent me a new one. Honestly, I don't even know why I carry it. Even when it first came out and I used it at Quizno's, I never had to show the card or anything because it worked off a printable coupon. LOL
There's no way I'm paying for this. I don't even care to still be signed up with them. Maybe if I lived in NYC or LA where you get more deals.

This is hilarious! I came in here to see if I was the only one who does NOT use this thing. Then I see all of these responses.

So now I'm wondering, did they bother to do ANY research before deciding to charge on whether anyone even uses it for free??? Maybe they plan to SERIOUSLY upgrade the deals and places it can be used? Not sure, but this is almost embarrassing for them. wow.

I've had mine for a good long while and never have used it either. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they decided to charge for it.
I think they'd be better off just letting the program die. Honestly, the only thing I ever thought was nice about this program was the mildly cool looking card with my gamertag on it.

i used it once..bought a quiznos combo meal got one free...Saved 9$ never found a good use for it again. I didnt even need the card, all i did was go to the website type in a gamertag and print the coupon.

This is all true but let's play devil's advocate: the cards cost money to produce and send out. They can probably tell that no one's using them, so to cut their production costs they're going to charge to have one. That'll keep every Joe Schmo who thinks the card is cool to have "just in case" from applying for one. The fee charged may also lead to better deals, but I wouldn't hold out hope for that.

The most fun I had with my diamond card was laughing at the "VALID TRHU" on the first batch of cards. other than that, I don't know where it is......

I used mine once for a sandwhich but never used it again. I am just scratching my head why MS would move this to a pay for service. I just hope my mailbox doesn't get filled with a bunch of junk mail from this new company trying to get me to buy it. It was appropriately priced at FREE.
MS seems to be hell bent on shoving more ad's and pay-for services in front of the 360 gaming community in 08. I notice now even the Xbox.com main home page has added a giant dynamic ad.
At least MS used to be subtle about their nickel & diming but I think they've decided to change their "Jump In" motto to "Pay Up".

If they're charging, they better put some good deals on there. $7 for crappy deals is NOT worth it. Much easier to clip coupons from the paper and go to the stores that are actually nearby.

LOL... F BOTH OF YOU MS & Passport! You both know where you can stick your card. $7 for what? Coupons I can get for free in junk mail or at the restaurants they're for?

So you have to pay for a card that does nothing? I havent used my card at all. Its useless. THe fact that you have to PRINT out coupons and have the card sucks.
