I have a basic knowledge and ability when it comes to soldering having only chipped a Ps1 and more recently a Game Cube. I am interested in developing a good technique for my own interest but also to have the confidence to perhaps modify a more recent console as a Game Cube is ok,but you can buy them for £15 Its a different matter when its a brand new Wii say or Xbox 360?!
Ive also learnt the hardway the lesson of buying cheap tools! So could anyone advise me on a good Soldering Iron especially (maybe an "industry standard" that modders go for perhaps?) but also solder, flux etc.
Cheers.

do as he says, i had some old gfx and sound cards lying around, ioone day got a 25W antex soldering iron and gota few of the smallest tips they do, i de soldered preety much the a whole sound card, learnt how to solder a X3 chip via a vid someone on these forums released a while back.

atm Xbox is preety cheap once you are comfortable with the basics just by an unmodded xbox and chip it

Yea I worked in an old computer store so one day I got bored and decided I wanted to be decent at soldering, so I took a video card and desoldered like 15 components them put them back on it for practice, and shoved it in the computer and it actually still worked, so my experiment was a success.
