CoinOPS+ has the SMB fixed..... It did work on HK$ if setup correctly and on mameox 0.72
ressurectionx
Well.... there ya go run cool.gif

So I guess that's one more thing that my emulator is going to be missing whever I get around to a release.

I'll have to remember add "NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO USE NETWORK SHARE" to the "NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO WILL PUT THEIR XBOX IN A COCKTAIL TABLE" in the disclaimer section.
BritneysPAIRS
Might fix the cocktail switching tommorrow as well....
PS sort by manufacturer is in. With complete renaming of every rom name, year and manufacturer
smile.gif
ressurectionx
Well if you find an easy way to do it, I'd love for you to tell me how you did it.

I thought the whole cocktail mode thing would be an easy fix for making the alternating games swap controllers, but because there are a ton of different ways that the games themselves handle that function (old shooters like Galaxian and Galaga being the most annoying of the bunch), I don't think it's going to be nearly as easy as you think it is.... unless you can work your magic outside of the source, that is.
BritneysPAIRS
easy to adjust in the source.... just a simple lock coctailmode to on. Then another line for screenroation code to run unless game is initailised + game has coktail, should be less than 5 lines of code. As I said all along the way you are doing it is nothing like the way ill do it.

OK I added it, on intial looks just searching for other factors that stopping screen rotation after initalising my cause. But it seems to work fine now
ressurectionx
hehe..... make sure you re-test all of your games.

Im confused what do you mean?I think you were responding to my question.
BritneysPAIRS
Galaxian and Galaga work fine...... I wont add it untill I discuss the switches with people that use coinops eg cotail mode setting etc and also someone like coso tests it.

Hey Res!

It's cheap and easy to do. Check out the hard drives at newegg.com. Shipping oftentimes is free and you'll usually have your drive in 3 days max. JUST MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR EEPROM AND YOU"LL ALWAYS BE ABLE TO FIX ANYTHING YOU MESS UP!!!!! smile.gif

If you go this route and need some advice, just let me know. I haven't been around as much now that I'm enjoying the nice weather but I'm still active.

I'm actually in medicine so I don't have much of a clue for anything outside of this, including computers and hardware drive junk.

I finally have some free clearing this coming week, maybe we could hook up and chat for a titch, I'll bring the beer. smile.gif

I thought of something though that might be easier for a newbie such as I am.

Exactly what retro CDs can I still purchase that CoinOps supports?

Stuff like Metal Slug, Capcom fighters, SNK stuff, arcade compilations, you know, Xbox games like that?

It would be simpler on my side if I were just to buy those CDs instead, saving room on my hard drive.

Thanks for the response.

ressurectionx
Care to post your code changes BP so I can try them out on my end?

Hey SM.... I'll be around sporadically between Sunday and Tuesday night, but I've got a suprisingly busy weekend coming up so I can't really commit to a time right now.

Not sure what you mean by retro CDs that Coin-Ops supports though. Though having a complete romset of MAME .84 will generally work well with CoinOPS, BP has made some changes which require you to have his entire romset for everything to work 100%. I'm not actually aware of any compilations you can buy in regards to that. Certainly not aware of any legal outlets for something like that, but the set is already available on torrents all around at this point.

The hard drive thing is real easy though man. You'll need a "special" set of screwdrivers called Torx though. Phillips or Flathead won't get the job done. It's not really special as they came with a Craftsman screwdriver set that I bought a few years back. I believe that you will need sizes T08 and T10, but it's been a while and I may be mistaken about that....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torx

You'd need to get a program called xboxhdm from the usual spot too. Also, you would need to have access to a computer that you could open up and attach the new hard drive to so you can run the linux cd (made by xboxhdm using your XBox's eeprom).

Sounds complicated the way I'm saying it, but if you follow the procedure, it's not all that bad. Here's a tut covering most of the procedure if you want to see what you'd be getting yourself into:

Hey run088,

"CoinOPS+ has the SMB fixed..... It did work on HK$ if setup correctly and on mameox 0.72"

I believe he's saying that if you do a Google search for his MAME emulator CoinOPS that it won't have the problems that you're experiancing. Make sure you get CoinOPS Second Quarter.... or jus wait a little while because I think he's coming out with the third revision sometime in the near future, which apparently has everything that I've been working on for months that he was able to do in less than 5 mintues.

Also, you could use MAMEox 0.72 which is generally a big downgrade and HK$ is another build that is admittedly much harder to find but isn't up to par with CoinOPS either.

Hope that helps.

run088
i did not know of any other emulators for mame, thanks for the breakdown.I just knew of mameox,mameox128, and mamedox and they all had the same issue.Ill try to look for coinops and see if that helps.
ressurectionx
No problem run.... It's a huge download (4-5GB) and you're going to have to get the roms with it because some of them are different than the versions you have now.

Trust me though... you're going to love it. The network share fix was never on my radar, but there are so many tweaks and fixes to CoinOPS that it's by far the best emu on the XBox for MAME now.

Have fun,
~Rx

Hey BP..... how about them code changes man? Couldja put the files you changed to get it working on rapid share or something for me so I can try it out?

Thanks,
~Rx
BritneysPAIRS
Nope its the new version out soon that its fixed..... fixed a tonne of stuff like screen tearing, SMB, Drivers, Manufacture Names, All Names, Back end menus actually lots and lots of tweaks to perfect CoinOPS
ressurectionx
I know.....

I just want the 5 lines of code you put in to get the screen flipping to work the way I wanted it to.

Alright............. I'll say please. Please?
BritneysPAIRS
I gave you the chance to add this a few weeks ago... but you didnt want it done that way
no offense but offers only stay around for a limited time then I move on
ressurectionx
What the hell man. Why do you have to be like this? I thought we've been getting along just fine.

It's a simple code, it took 5 minutes for you to do, it will take even less time to upload. Why you going all prick mode again?
BritneysPAIRS
hey im just saying we were once talking about this and you didnt want to fix it the way I asked... I am currently fixing alot of stuff ill test the feature properly later then ill post the code. But really all this stuff you should be working out I told you pretty much exactly where to put the switchs and pretty much exactly what the switchs were
ressurectionx
Whatever man. Do what you want. I'm done with this. Too much stress and time wasted over nothing. I'm going to throw that damn debug box in the river so I can get back to real life. Have fun everybody.
Smothermunchie
Hmmm.......

Am I in a bad mood or am I just picking up some weird negative vibes from somewhere ............... again? biggrin.gif

I guess my question came out all wrong in my last post.

I was asking which official, Xbox games that can still be purchased (probably used though) at places like Gamestop that CoinOps attempts to emulate unofficially.

Make any sense?

I was thinking if that there were any crossovers, I'll just buy those CDs instead of having them emulated under BP's current build to save on hard drive space.

Oh, and thanks for the links to upgrade the drive. I looked around a long time ago but gave up on trying to find a good tutorial.

xyteam
just play coinops on a dvd disc, then you wont have to put anything into your harddrive apart from the gamesave.
ressurectionx
Looks like BP got the 2 player alternating working, but it's in BETA now. It will not be in his next release yet, because he'll have to test a lot to make sure nothing is broken. Knowing from personal experience how touchy all that graphics code is, I would be very suprised if things weren't broke from it that needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, I can't test any of it because he won't let me know what the fix he put it was.

Oh well...... spring is here and I'm tired of wasting time on this anyhow. He's doing me a favor actually. Man.... I actually spent a 3 day weekend without turning on my XBox. It was everything I dreamed it would be and more. I had forotten what the sun looked like.....

I'll be suggesting keymapping fixes and things like that to him when I get some free time here and there, but those won't be until after he releases his next build and I can see what still needs to be changed. I will also hopefully be adding a patch with the games that he didn't include and all of the keymap changes and screenshots for them when I get some time. Fortunately, BP removed the limitation for only adding 50 games to his new build, so adding as many games that work as possible in patch form won't be a problem now.

The end result, hopefully, should be that BP's emulator will be able to run every single MAME game that is possible to run on the XBox. Not exactly the original aim of this thread, but his emulator is much better than MAMEox128 Plus!

~Rx

Will 4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles be in 3rd Quarter?
xyteam
3rd quarter is already out,its called coinops+.just add 4-player tmnt.
BritneysPAIRS
CoinOPS Refined will include both 2 and 4 player versions of TMNT 1 and 2 and the Simpsons

smile.gif its a total cleanup of all the top games to make sure they operate alot better and can be controlled or controlled better. And it looks like I might have a few other surprises if I can and if others can help add a few surprises
Smothermunchie
Oooh, I love surprises!

Is it bigger than a baby's arm? biggrin.gif
DarthMingus
Mouse support? wink.gif

You said the samba is fixed in coinops but whenever I turn the network connection on in the ini it will boot to a black screen. This seems to be a pretty new build the nfo with it said 4-3-08.

It does seem pretty sweet but the network problems are disturbing.
underworlderZer0
CoinOPS+ is the latest version. If you want the newest version to come out faster, help out BP with testing games and filling in his spreadsheet. Google "CoinOPS Refined" for details.
BritneysPAIRS
Network is definitly fixed on CoinOPS+ and tested (CoinOPS non plus like the one you have it wasnt working)
run088
I can help some but have a couple projects I am starting myself.I do have 5 debug kits on my network as well as it ties into my pc if that would be of some use.
I am currently researching creating a beowulf cluster with 16 xboxes I have sitting around and then somehow hook in my other 5 as head nodes because they will go on and off the network. And my Pc as the master.
As well as find someway to launch an xbox game over the network.
I got a couple hardware mods on my mine to upgrading things Ive never seen upgraded.
BritneysPAIRS
Its written many times what needs doing and many have said they would do it but havent.... so for now my build stays on my xbox that play around with alot smile.gif lots of games didnt work right and I fixed them as well as adding some games that didnt work. But as said ive put my hours in and people need to put there money where there mouth is or I will just continue on other projects
run088
I cant find it so it does me no good.No one can tell me where to find it so I am stuck. No coinops 2 or 3

Exactly right BP. You do a lot of work and it's only fair that you get some help getting it finished. Keeping that single copy of your newest build in Limbo on your box is exactly what you should be doing. That's what I did with the SNES video previews and Horscht and Sotu stepped up to the plate and now we basically have a 100% complete collection of SNES videos to go with my 100% complete artwork previews that I'll be releasing soon. It only took about 2 weeks to complete when we worked together.

I don't fault you at all for that decision.... I'll be back to help out on MAME. I'm just burned out on it right now is all. I hope you're still around when I get back to tackling it.

Did you ever figure out how to get the games to switch from the first player control to the second?

~Rx
run088
Found it but the results are the same coinops+ boots to a black screen whenever I change the lock to 0 if I dont change lock the network is ignored.
So what gives?
I changed the rom path and I put the info in for network settings.
What am I missing if it is fixed?
How must it be configured?
BritneysPAIRS
No idea it works fine other forum have explained exactly how to get it going just search for coinops+ threads. If you remove the lock it wont work or boot.
run088
Got it! I didnt have it setup like my old one.It wants a crazy way to ask for it but it works my setup wants it like this

smb://:192.168.0.2/mame

the ip being my nameserver and mame being the share.

Thanks
BritneysPAIRS
No worries... is the new video preview stuff open source emus? if so ill insert the code
Also commandline stuff is in it just needs the syntax to run it like the smb syntax
RX Havent tested first players stuff, the code is pretty simple on that stuff just needs to look into exactly what it effects (maybe it will kill some games) for at least CPS1 2 games I should add it, will be a small job. If Nes6502 wants to help code I can work with him on adding some new features for sure hes seems to be good and be motivated.

PS 720p is painfull with very little reward... it really effects the VMM code and would need another VMM to get alot of games to run, also some wont under 720P but ive added the option
ressurectionx
The videos being provided are WMV files. They need to be converted using a batch program NES provided to switch them to .XMV files to run. It uses something from M$ that is keeping us from being able to post the finished product.

BritneysPAIRS
No worries
ressurectionx
I haven't looked at MAME vids yet, but I'd be more than happy to supply the MAME previews as well when you get to that point.
BritneysPAIRS
RX see if you can get nes6502 to message me..... his skills would improve CoinOPS if he wants to
ressurectionx
Hear that NES? cool.gif
