I am trying connect my PC to my Xbox via cross over cable. I only have my single network card in the pc and just a standard modded Xbox with the X3 installed and already flashed. It will connect but before anything comes up it times out. Do I really have to have 2 network cards?

No, you need to setup your network statically. So the xbox and computer can communicate with each other.

I set my computer to use specified IP 192.168.0.1 and set my XBox to 192.168.0.2

It will connect, sit for about 5 seconds then come back and say connection timed out. I never actually see any contents in the FTP window from the Xbox

What do you have for gateway?

Actually just list your settings for the xbox and the computer. That would make things considerably easier.

A guy I work with thinks that the problem may be my gateway.

My computer is set to 192.168.0.1

XBox

IP: 192.168.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.100

I think it is set at 100 anyways. I tried to post last night while I was at home with all this infront of me, but it was having issues with that.

Yep, your gateway needs to be the ip of the opposite device. Change that and you should be good.

so the gateway needs to be 192.168.0.1 correct?

Thank you so much, you have no idea what I've been going through trying to get this friggin thing set up. I spent at least 50$ on dvd's trying Slayer's boot disk........ no luck

Gateway: 192.168.0.1


Computer:
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.2

That should work for you.

im really new to this ive spent 2 days tring to get this to work
today i finnually got the pc to accept & connect but the xbox still wont
i recieved the xbox moded so i dont know much about how to use it
i just want to get it hooked up to my pc
ive been tring to reed everything i can on it but i still get pretty lost
