Hi,

I have just read this in a guide:
"If you are upgrading from an older hacked firmware, like a previous GaryOPA firmware, a Birdy firmware, or Commodore4Eva firmware, you must restore your drive to the original firmware before continuing. If you are flashing the firmware to a stock drive, ignore this section and skip to “Flashing The Drive.”

Im wondering if its possible to flash a drive without restoring back to original firmware, as i dont have it sad.gif
Im planning on putting on Maximus-Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth
onto a hitatchi 0047dj

cheers,
Dave

You don't need the original firmware to restore to stock. Read the tutorials.

It's a good idea to restore the Hitachi first and with the same version you used before. The various generations of Hitachi mods, only update certain sectors and don't flash the entire 256kb. You need to do the restore with the version you used the first time to make sure you fix up the sectores that were modified the first time round...
If you don't, and then used a different version it may flash completely different sectors and corrupt the overall flash .....

cheers for the help everybody .. So far if got the key injection tutorial ,, but i cant find a place/tutorial to help get the original/stock 0047dj firmware .. i didnt loose the orig , it was already modded sad.gif

i have acutally tried to flash about an hour ago ,, the drive was already in mode B according to what happened when i booted with slax , i got "Spinning up disc" then ejected it via the xbox and it continued .. i then got into windows and ran FLASHIX.BAT which backed up the current firmware but then gave me 3 possible errors , which were something like "windows not compatible" "already flashed with 1.4" and something else i dont remember sorry but i think they are standard .. would this be due to already being flashed? is it possible to view the current firmware and identify it ? maybe from the backup that flashix took ?

also ,, can somebody please explain what 2x , 5x , 8x , 12x folders reffer to ?

hope these arent all newbie questions tongue.gif

cheers
