Bought a faulty board of ebay, when i got it had E74 altenative code 0020. Replaced x-clamps and it booted up ok, but only for half and hour, then back to e74 and 0020.
Read what other people had done and the decided to use heat gun, heated up area under Gpu and ana chip. I was very careful not to apply too much heat and i reduced the heat on the gun gradually to finish, I also tightened up the gpu heat sink when the board was at its hottest point.
Been running sweet for 2 days now, will post back if it dies again.

You shouldn't have heat gunned the board when the heatsinks were on. On a side note, if a bad connection to the (H)ANA chip is the cause for E74, then it should be fairly easy to see where the bad connection is, since it's an SMD, unlike the GPU and CPU which was BGA chips. Just get a magnifying glass and look for a broken solder joint.

2 days isnt really a fix. i had mine running plenty of times for about a week.
even if it runs for a month its not yet worthy of calling it a fix

Hello. I did the same thing as you did, bought a 360 off of ebay. I got one with the E74 error also. The original owner said it was RROD and the warranty sticker was intact, but when I get it, yes, the warranty was intact, but it wasn't RROD, it was E74. After reading on this forum, I broke the seal and did a xclamp mod hoping it would work. It has taken me 2 days of tweaking, but I have mine running now. I used RBJtech MKI on the CPU, and a mixed MKI and MKIII on the GPU. I also did the RBJTech fan hood mod. I've got mine sitting here just playing a NBA Live07 disc and I'm going to let it run for a while (as long as possible or till it overheats). I got my fingers crossed. Anyone have any suggestions on a game to just let run (without having to play) to test it? Thanks for the help in advance.
