Full Version: Setting The Clock Automatically Without Live?

Mister OCD
Hey all,

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I tried searching, and couldn't really find anything about this.

Everytime you unplug your 360, the date and time is reset to 2005. However, when you log onto live, it sets the clock automatically.

What I wanna do is NOT connect to live, but have the clock set automatically anyway, cause I wanna use a special power cord that turns off the power to other devices when I turn off my receiver, to save electricity.

I tried blocking all ports from the 360 in my router, except 123 UDP which is NTP, but this didnt work.

Anybody else tried this and got it working? Or anybody know for sure that it isnt possible to auto set the clock without logging to Live?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Arh fuck, messed up the topic, should have been the Clock, not the Lock... Cant seem to change it... sad.gif

whats wrong with LIVE setting the clock for you?

the clock it a variable setting (meaning it changes every second(obviously, cause its the time)) which requires power to store and change that setting. removing the power source means there is no way for the xbox to store that setting and change it.

so what you want to do is have the xbox automatically know what time it is and set it without xbox live or you setting it?

I guess he means setting the clock through live but not connect to the whole service. So the 360 would get the time but can't sign in.
This is not possible 'cause live uses a few ports for a lot of communication. For example it may use port 5600 (this is just a random number!) for time, gamerscore and chat. So you'd need to block specific protocols to just get the time and here comes the next problem. Live traffic is encrypted so your router can't look at the data. It has no way of knowing if the traffic is time or chat or whatever. There's really no way to set only the clock. I'm pretty sure the 360 doesn't even use NTP.

as others said, you have to allow all or nothing as far as live goes. also, the 360 doesn't have any kind of internal battery to keep the clock function, or a tiny cap like the original xbox had. anytime the system has no power, it will have to sync up with live.

any specific reason you would purposely make your system unable to access live?
