also tried with slax 2.0 cd on my VIA VT6421
no luck with that either

now when i put it bak in my 360 the dvd drive doesnt open and i get error e64

i hav no idea wat im doing wrong
can someone please help me
i will be forever grateful

thanks
podger
E64 would suggest it's not there, are all the cables connected correctly....

Did you connect the power cable the wrong way round, if you did, it's probably dead,,
Did you attempt the 2 wire trick, if you messed this up it is probably also dead....

Well Im sure I have bad news. When I was panicking about this whole thing. I acidentally over wrote the floppy I had with the original firmware on it. I made a new disk in iprep for the 8x and by mistake it formatted it before I backed it up. Can I get the original firmware somewhere? The key should still be in the firmware I have installed now right? Couldnt I read the firmware again get the key and inject it into the orig firmware if I can find it? Ir could I just read the firmware I have on there now and inject the key into the 8x one I made? Thanks again for your help

You probably screwed it using the USB connect kit.

You are supposed to use the PC Power molex--->xbox 360 Power molex 'connectivity kit'

podger
So did you flash it or not... Your first post says nothing about you flashing it... But you rlasy post says you flashed it....

Need more info... List ALL the steps you did, even if you don;t want to dmit to them

Im sorry, but IMO if its showing in windows as a USB device then you have hooked it up using the Optical Disc Drive connecter.

NOT

The connectivity kit.

If you got the power molex the wrong ay round, your drive would short out and (I was lucky once) it'll be knackered.

steps are turned off pc, connected molex to xecuter connectivity and the other end to the usb
turned on the pc and cheked in device manager
only thing that popped up was storage device

i cheked if it was the wrong way but it was correct, u can tell by the shape of it

also tried connecting it to my via vt6421 but couldnt get it into mode b with slax 2.0

so i decided to connect it 2 the xbox to pack it back up 2 take it 2 get it professionally done
but error e64 popped up

i want to hopefully get it flashed to see if the error goes away

any suggestions?
thanks

AGAIN

You should nod be using USB

sata--->sata
PC power molex--->360 drive power

Are the 2 cables to be attached.

Goig work now but Ill post a pic of the kit when I get back

The bit of the kit you need has a modeb and an eject button on it.

in the original "xecuter" kit there where 2 parts if i remember correctly, one was a adaptor to power the dvd drive, this was a white pcb (5cm long 2 wide) with a molex connector on it, two white push switches with leds to show use and a multi wire end going to a white connector that went into the 360 dvd drives proper power connector. this powers it as well as allows you to eject the drive and place the drive into modeb.

the other adaptor was for the 360 hdd and was also a pcb but was blue (8cm buy 1cm) with a molex but this also has a sata connector makde into the pcb so you could use it on the drive... this one is no good to you and may have damaged the drive if you used it. it looks long thin and has a slight notch on the end so it fits snug round the drive and only fits one way round.

this is it, the top is the one i described first, and the only one you should connect to the 360 dvd drive.

the only usb part xecuter did was later i think and that was a blue plastic almost orb with 4 green leds in a plus shape on it, with a mini usb jack on one side and a sata connector on the other, this is just any old cheap usb to sata bridge, there is no power involved here, to use this you need the power kit i mentioned at the top.

this is the usb part you could use, personally i would get a cheaper one off egay
