I have never used $ROOT$ and always prefered to use an absolute path.

I have a pinned guide at top of page. The setup I used in guide covers a few tweaks that are needed to get Relax and XBMP up and running.

$ROOT$ works well if you set it up correctly. You need to make sure you created a virtual drive in RelaX to start with and make sure you named that virtual drive movies. Hopefully an image shows up below. The four shares directly below SHARES are not virtual drives and you reference those by their actual patch. The one named images is a virtual drive and is referenced in your config by $ROOT$images. The contents of the virtual drive can be referenced by their actual path but referencing by $ROOT$ gives you more options and control.

Looking at your relax log it says its trying to access $ROOT$pictures but you say your config says $ROOT$movies. That is the first thing I would look into. If you can post an image of your RelaX left pane that would also help.

A virtual drive referenced with $ROOT$ allows you to do things like access all your mp3s from multiple locations and drives. Like under my images virtual drive I could add D:\whatever\whatever\ and E:\whatever\whatever and so on but I would not have to enter a new share in my config file. Everything in those folders would show up in XBMP.

I'd have to agree on the idea of using the absolute path rather than the $ROOT$ tag. I've always used the absolute path an have never encounter any problems.

The $ROOT$ Tag is not the problem. Not knowing how to use it may be. One advantage of this tag is not having to use the absolute path. Like in the guide instead of having to remember the absolute path D:\Stream\Videos, or in some peoples cases longer paths, and to minimize errors in path names, you could enter $ROOT$divx for the first share and be done with it. Of course it is a preference but using the absolute path is only good for simple shares.
