Full Version: Some Divx And Mp4 Videos Won't Play Now?

Ok, here goes. I had been playing ALL of my divx and mp4 videos just fine up until a couple days ago. Now all of a sudden some videos give me a problem. Yes, all the videos are profile complaint according to various media info tools and my own experience as far as encoding goes. So I slap in a divx movie and it plays for about half an hour. Then all of a sudden it stops playing. NOW the 360 won't even recognize the video as it did before. Strange. blink.gif Some of my mp4 videos (that I have encoded myself using Handbrake) aren't recognized anymore, as well. But they should be because they SHOULD BE compliant. Again...strange. So my question is this: has anyone ever experienced this problem before or heard of this happening? Maybe there is something wrong with the 360 playback software?

Thanks smile.gif

No way... its a Microsoft product...flawless. tongue.gif

You didn't mention how the media is delivered to the 360....wired network, wireless network, dvd disc, or usb?

I use dvd+r discs and a kingston memory stick. that's it. so you think it could be the dash? or something screwy with some of the encodes?

Alright, I have to bump this because I want to know what the hell i going on.

Cliff notes:

1. All my divx and mp4 movies used to play fine in the 360.

2. Now, SOME refuse to play. One divx even played fine for half an hour and then was simply rejected.

3. I'm using dvd+r and a flash drive.

4. Is this a dashboard problem?

5. Are some of my encodes whacked somehow?

Thank you for you kind support jester.gif

Bringing this topic back, didn't see any resolution to it. I am having a similar problem. Xvid videos that I have burned to a disc (dvd r-) that once played fine will no longer work. Soemtimes they will start playing then quit just after a few minutes. They will then get a red ban symbol next to the file name. When I try to play them anyway I get:

Unplayable Content

Can't play this content because it may not be supported. For more info, go to www.xbox.com/support.

Status code: 69-80070017

I know that its supported because it played it fine at one point. Burning the videos on a new disc or trying to play the video from a usb drive gies the same results. I tried the website and searching around for the status code but neither gave me any results.

I was just curious did anyone figure out how to fix this problem? I just had this error myself today, but mine would only play for about 10 seconds then get the error message. As someone above stated earlier I know it works because the video itself did play.

I have a 120GB Seagate HDD in an external case that holds my itunes music library, XviDs, DivX, .MP4 .AVI .WMV and just about every kind of video format you can imagine. The drive has at least 50 movies on it and 10,000 songs. I am having the same problem. Most movie files play just fine but a few cause problems for the 360. I was watching a movie and halfway through the movie an error message popped up telling me the file was not compatible or something like that. I don't remember the exact wording but I was able to watch it again but had to skip past that part in the movie which was annoying considering VLC, MPLAYER, XBMC and Quicktime even all play this file with no problems at all. Also, some of my files have a circle with a slash through it kind of like the NO SMOKING symbol jester.gif and I can't play those files at all. Why I have no idea. I wish I knew what it was that way I could reencode...but I have no idea why so here I am. Also, I notice the playback on certain kinds of files is jerky sometimes. I noticed this when I was watching a .MP4 Pretty sad that freeware video players for my PC do a better job than my XBOX which is suppose to be the highlight of living room media experience blink.gif

the files cannot be greater than 4GB.
if they are less try unplugging everything from the console including power supply for 10 min.

I'm now having the same problem.

I just got my 360 back from Repair (a different one). So I had to re-download pretty much everything that was DRM protected.

I am having the same problem. NONE of my Divx files will play at all.

Solutions I tried:

- Re-download the codec for my main account -- couldn't find it in the history list.

- Use an alternate account and re-download the codec (Done, but still same result--even on THAT account)

I'm at a loss. Have they fudged the Divx playback now? Are they only allowing copyrighted Divx to play? Is there such a thing?

I have no idea what is going on. sad.gif

UPDATE: I recovered my Gamertag and got Divx working again.

i noticed that i can play my divx files when connected to live but if i disconnect the ethernet cable and try to play the video again it will tell me that codecs are needed. I thought they were saved on the xbox
