I have installed a NME v2 chip into my hitachi xbox 360. After backing up a game, I burnt the .dvd file with Imgburn on a DVD. Once I pop the game in I get a white screen that says ,"Put this disc in a xbox 360 to play this."
What am I doing wrong ? Is it the disc or modchip? I'm pretty sure I installed the chip good.

sounds like you are not converting the ISO image to NME format compatible before you burn your games man, NME backups only work if burned a certain way, you need to do a bit more research before you burn a 15 disc pack of coasters as was the case with me.
this is what i do to make my discs boot properly on my NME 2.0 elite 79fk.
1) Extract image (I use xbox backup creator and use a SH-D162C drive w/Kreon F/Ware )
From this point on it seems like alot of people are doing different methods to prepare the ISO for the burn, i have tried exactly what others do to make theirs and i get a mixed bag effect, some will load and others will say unplayable disc even tho they were burned the exact same way. I have found a way to get 100% success with burns for "MY SETUP".
this is what i did/have done.
OK, so this is taking it from the very top, after i had made countless coasters and was pretty angry that i wasted about 40 bux worth of dvds, i was looking at the NME site and it says something about un-installing CLONE CD, then REINSTALL.
that was step 1, uninstall then reinstall clone cd did that.
dumped image then used the NME Associator to patch up the image, burned it and got a coaster.
but i have also read quite a few peoples posts that say thats all they need to do, extract image, patch with NME associator, burn, play. not working for me tho.
ok, so i was going back thru and puttin in some VERY old backups i had made before i had my kreon drive, and found that a few of them worked, and they had been prepared to SS merge program.
so my next step was to try something with that again
and this is where i found that i was able to get 100% working backups every time, not a single coaster since then,
1 extract image
2 open up Mulleter and check the image integrity, while in mulleter, extract your SS file from the image, and also make the .dvd file.
3 open SS merge and inject the ISO image file, then inject the SS file you extracted earlier thru mulleter
and hit the big button in the middle that says something like create layer break file, once its done.
4 open up NME Associator, on the default tab inject the ISO image file, AND the SS file once again, once those are loaded into the program, SWITCH to the CONVERT tab, do not hit the button on the 1st tab (default tab) just load the image stuff onto it, then switch to the CONVERT tab, once there hit the CONVERT button, it will ask a couple of questions just hit yes or ok, once its completed doing its thing, i burn, and get GREAT SUCCESS!
hope that helps you

Thanks for the info by the way
*So it has NOTHING at all to do with my chip?*

I did your exact steps and the backup still didn't work. And I used ImgBurn with Verbatim DVD+R DL at 2.4x speed. I have a Pioneer 108. I just don't understand, maybe it's the modchip installation? I still get the message Put this disc in an Xbox 360 console (white screen with different languages that I've stated "Put this disc in an Xbox 360 console"). To turn the chip on, I hold the power button down (on the console manually =) for 2 secs, then I press the eject button, put DVD backup in, and it should boot. correct?

Hmm...Do i have to solder Point X on the modchip? Says on nme2.com it's optional, but it's not required is it? That's the activity LED point.

By the way, when I do a steatlth check after i've done the process with Schtrom360Xtract_V3 and it fails the video layer break 1, and then fails at the bottom and i've follow your step fully.

Check that your wiring is in fact correct and you have picked up all points on the chip for your drive type.
I can guarantee that my method for NME2 Stealth backups works 100% -

heya,
Ok, i'll check it the modchip installation again today. Because I did follow your guide as well and my backups didn't work. So, i'm going to have to check the install i guess. Also, Helio you said
"You will notice 2 text boxes with open dialogs (marked ...) named 'ISO File' and 'SS File'. Load the ISO file (not the .dvd file). You will be prompted that the file is 'wxlength' and whether you want to recalculate the mD5. Do not determine the MD5 or you will be there for hours and it is not necessary to create a backup. Note if the dialog says the IUSO file is 'NME 360 length', the file is already in the correct format"
Now once I do this whole step , does this convert it to nme2 format?
Thanks
Let me know ASAP =)

Hey.
Once you Merge the ss.bin file into the ISO file you now have an NME2 compatible stealth backup.
You can run up Xbox Backup Creator to check that it is in fact a valid Stealth image. Click the 'Image Tools' tab and select 'Stealth Check'. Load the ISO file and you should get a text box with the following...
Video is valid!*
PFI is present!
DMI is present!
SS is present!
Stealth Check Passed!
And that is it. Burn using ImgBurn by loading the .dvd file created when the merge is performed in XBox 360 SS Merger.
Good Luck.

Gophie try this.......this is my method.... and it works everytime for me
This is my method and I think it is WAY less confusing.....NONE OF THAT EXTRACTING AND MERGING ALL OVER THE PLACE........here goes... this is for NME chip of course
My equipment:
1.samsung drive flashed with Kreon software
2.pioneer 111D drive to burn with
3. Schtrom360Xtract V3.2 (there may be a newer one but this works fine)
4.NME aSSociat0r
5. Imgburn
Steps:
1. open Schtrom360Xtract V3.2, select samsung drive, by task: whole disc (stealth extreme 3.0), click extract
2. after that 1 step you have 2 files............, NOW, open NME associator, hit convert tab, select the ISO FILE you just extracted (not .DVD), Click convert...........BOOOOOOOOM DONE..........
3. now load the .DVD file in Imgburn...... BURN............ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really dont understand why ppl want to go through all this extracting merging and all that confusing crap....
I hope this helped someone out.......DONT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH ALL THAT CONFUSING CRAP
OH and I also burn at 2x.....it's slow but the slower you burn the more stable your burn will be, which means you will have a smaller chance for errors, and the 360 doesnt like errors.....
also you shouldnt have to do this because the .dvd file does it for you but to set up Imgburn go into it and ...go to tools....then settings....hit the write tab....under options and under set layer break select user specified and type 1913760 in the box......if after all this you still cant get it to work you may also have to set your booktype in imgburn for your particular burner....we'll get into that if needed.....my burner and prob your too sets the book type automatically..... good luck and let us know how it goes

No that does not convert it to NME format.....you will need NMEassociator to do that......Follow my above post

hmm...some of my games are working, but one game isn't working. Lost Odyssey. I got the .iso then someone told me to make a .dvd file(because it didn't come with it) by adding the lines :
LayerBreak=1913760
xxx-lo1.iso
and a notepad and saving it as .dvd file. Now I do convert the image to nme, and i've used both you guys techniques and when i put the disc in, it loads up the game on the dashboard as Lost Odyssey but when i play the game, in the first 5 seconds, it says "This disc is unreadable" then says use a clothe to clean and such.
What am i doing wrong? I'm using a pioneer 108 , verbatim at 2.4x. My other games work except for this.
I've also used mulleter to extract the ss. and .dvd from the iso then injected it with the ss merge program.
Please let me know what i'm doing wrong. Maybe its the game?

and also, since i have a pioneer 108 drive, it should be auto set for bitsetting correct to dvd-rom, correct? All my other burns worked perfect with CoD4, Planet, and NBA Live 08. Just odyssey is being a pain with me now...

OOOK! This is the issue i'm having here, and i think im starting to see what the problem is, maybe someone can help me out.
I did the steps for the game Bully (and worked)
1. Mulleter - Check the details on it (all perfect), extracted the ss
2. Opened SS merger - Opened up bully.iso then opened ss.bin of it, then checked if they matched. They do, then after that, I clicked the big sign that says merge or whatever. It merges.
3. NOW! The SS merger does convert the image to NME format! (The size is 7.17 gb, which is a NME format) and the option is in the ss merger in left corner, you'll see it (someone said , "No that does not convert it to NME format.....you will need NMEassociator to do that......Follow my above post")
Now, for lost odyssey, when I do this, the final outcome of the game is 7.29 gb. Now, maybe it's the game, maybe I need to take something out or something..i don't know what is wrong. Maybe someone can explain =)

You may want to use 'XBox 360 SS Merger' to extract the ss.bin file and also use to merge (as you have).
When you first load the iso file to extract the ss.bin it should tell you that the iso is wx_length or something very close. This is the correct iso to then insert the ss.bin file in to. Otherwise, it may already say the file is in NME format or another format. This may be why the file size is so large.
Question: Did you extract this iso yourself or did you obtain it elsewhere? If you didn't extract it yourself it may be that it was already in another format other than wx_length.

To answer your question as well, it was obtained somewhere else. Any other suggestion? thanks for the advice/help as well =)

All my backups are taken from my "originals". So I don't have any first hand experience with rips by others. If you still have a copy of the original rip you could check its length to determine what format it is in. It sounds to me like the SS.bin has been inserted twice or was in a rip that is not compatible with re-inserting for the NME2.

That's a very good question. I don't doubt letsmod's credentials, but I agree in this case that it shouldn't make any difference.
As I have mentioned in another thread here, until that mod is verified, I would not suggest anyone perform an undocumented mod for risk of damage to the XBox or detection of the mod by M$FT.
