I installed the NME v2 in a 360 with a philips/benq vad6038 drive. had trouble soldering the A point referenced in the Underdog Install guide. So I have everything soldered in original location except the A point which was soldered into the Alternate A ( the leg on the chip). Once all put back together, got a red light (bottom right) with an error E65 on the screen.
Only thing i can think that went wrong was when trying to solder the original A point, I think some of the solder came out. When I ohmed it out was not getting a reading between point A and alternate A.

Another question, is it easier to solder on Alternate A and I that is on the chip vs. the points?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

It is a concern that you can't read a circuit between the normal A and alternative A points. The A point on the chip was covered in goo that I first had to remove with the tip of the soldering iron... so be sure that you have gotten through that goo first otherwise you won't be able to check the circuit with your ohm meter.

I ended up using the chip A and the solder pad I points. I found the space between the pads was too close to one another so I chose to use one of each.

I suggest you open up and check all connections and make sure they are still in place. You may need to fill the solder pad point with solder, but I can't remember whether a wire or link was coming through that point which may now have a dry joint.

And you may then wish to test the system before putting back together.

I wish you the best of luck.

What about the cover to the drive held in by 4 philips headed screws? Would you leave it on or off?

If you can leave it off I suppose you could run it like that. Just be careful not to look at the laser. It could blind you. Otherwise take the time to put the drive back together, but nothing else.

if you remove the device does the drive act normal??
