Greetings

I don't really have a problem here, I just want to know something.
I received for my birthday a sweet 250Gb Seagate Barracuda (yay!) hard drive. But...well, it was a SATA hard drive. I managed to install it in my v1.3 xbox (which is IDE btw) and it finally works well.

I thought my HDD activity leds would work, even if the hdd is SATA (the hdd leds was still grounded on the 39 pin of the IDE cable). Well, when I turn on my xbox, the hdd leds light up, but after the XBOX logo, they stop lighting. Probably the leds shouldn't be grounded to the 39 pin anymore with the adapter...I'm a little confused.

So, I was just wondering if is there another place where I could ground my leds to have hdd activity...maybe on the 39 pin, ON the mobo instead of the cable? I just don't know... I search around on the forum but couldn't find an answer, and adding a SATA HDD led looks like very tricky.

Sorry for my bad english and thanks for reading me

Sweet!! I figured it out!
I looked at the IDE connector pinout to see which function has each pin.. I found that the pin 27 is a I/O READY; and beside it, pin 25 and pin 23 are I/O READ and I/O WRITE..
So I just soldered (soldered is the past tense of solder I guess) a wire from a red 5V, put a resistor and soldered the resistor to the anode of the 4 parallel-wired leds.
After that, I soldered a wire from the IDE pin 27 of the adapter (which is plug to the SATA HDD) to the cathode of the leds.

It works like a charm! I now have SATA hdd activity, not from pin 39 but from pin 27 of the adapter.

So, if someone has any problem like this, here's a post!! =)
