Hey guys i have a couple ideas i want to try to my xbox 360. First im going to add the front fan header at 12v and run that all the way back to my delta rear 360 fans. My first question is how can i drop the voltage down from 12v to say 9-10v (i know i can run them at 7v from a different power source. ) Im not sure what the best noise to airflow ratio is the best i assume around 9v. I have 12v now on a different box and its just to loud for me smile.gif Here is one example i have found http://picasaweb.google.com/juise99/360/ph...333110686411746
then http://picasaweb.google.com/juise99/360/ph...333127866280962 this got it to 9.6v (not sure how loud that is compared to 12v) I was hopeing for something a litte cleaner looking tho. Then i was going to add a top case fan like the first image here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...9063&st=105 but im going to wire the front case fan to the stock fan controller. Reason being is so if ms starts to check voltages on the stock fan controller for bannings it will still report back as ok my question here is the fan controller has 2 hots and 2 grounds if i run both hots to one fan will it be running at the standard 5v or would it be 5v + 5v = 10V (I know the fan controller regulates the Voltage to the fans but it usually dont go much past 5v "( )? Also will both being wired to one fan report back the same as if the original fans were hooked to the fan controller (hence the reason for me using the stock fan controller in the first place)? Thanks for the input guys

you could use something like a potentiometer that can adjust resistance so that less voltage gets through. You can adjust the simple thing with a screw driver until you get the air flow and noise to what you want. I think the best way would to start off from a 12v and increase the resistance instead of the other way around. Also you could get a fan controller that does exactly what you're saying from llama but it's kind of ugly unless you could strip it down and make it smaller.

MS wont start banning for the 12V mod. just place a resistor in there to drop it down to what ever voltage you like.

and i suggest you get 12V from the power source

From what i have read the front fan header comes directly from the power supply. How do i know what size resister i would use to drop it from 12v to 9v ?

wel how about any standard fan adjusters that can be used in pc's

I mean, ever heard of a Zalman Fanmate? It can regulate between 5-12V.

You can get a rough idea like so:

Find the resistance of the fan's coil - i.e. measure resistance (from the fans connector) between ground and one of the fan's positive leads (both fans should have approx the same value). Then use simple ratios to split voltage - eg. if the fan has a resistance of 1kohm then using another 1kohm resistance will half the voltage.
