This is my first post but definately not my last, ive seen some people with similar issues who months ago said theyd report back, of course you know they fixed the problem but didnt bother to let others know

So I followed Textbooks PDF on changing the firmware, the quick information youd need to know is

Drive : toshiba samsung ms28
VIA Chipset (updated) 6241 ( internal port )
Firmware : Samsung Ixtreme 1.4 ( 8x )
Using Iprep with cruzer crossfire 1G USB.

Before flashing with Iprep, I had tried with Xtreme boot maker, this appeared to of worked, so I popped COD 4 in to test " To play this disk put it in a xbox 360 console "
But it did run a DVD fine.

So I thought " right, somethings not gone right"
so I try and run Iprep to flash the firmware, i get past dsam 1234567 12345, 10 second trick and then it looks like its doing its thing untill it scrolls down in big red writing

no valid key found in backups\1234567\12345\sam-OFW.bin!

So, experienced help needed please! it would be greatly appreciated

did you keep the orig.bin when you read the drive the first time, i hope you did it will be in the backup folder
if you did open it in firmware toolbox and make sure youve got the drive key

I may of done . . . what would of been the process etc for this?
Im searching through my computer as we speak

AHA! yes ive found the orig.bin in the backups folder, so is the issue that I need to copy the hex key in the orig.bin to the hacked.bin?

is it located in a folder /backup/XXXXXXX/XXXXX/ORIG.BIN

There is also a file called XTREMEFW.BIN

Is that correct?

if your using extreme bootmaker open the orig.bin with firmware toolbox and copy the key
open the ixtreme 1.4 in firmware toolbox and then paste the key into that then hit replace key
rename the ixtreme 1.4 to hacked.bin and put this into the backup folder with the orig.bin
then use the hack command to flash the drive

ive just tried opening it in firmware toolbox 4.6 and it gave me this error

Firmware version NOT SUPPORTED or not a valid firmware file

.....uuh? o_0

Does this mean it may be corrupt?

It loaded the .bin file
but for Rom Version it says ? Unknown Vendor - Unknown Model

and it has nothing at the Key text field, just trying another hex editor to see if it can see this

Update

Ok just tried it on another hex editor and between line 4000 and 4200 its all ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff's

is the orig.bin 256k in size if it isn't it sounds like youve lost the drive key

If its all ff's @ 4000 your key is gone boss.

ok i am having the same problem i dint want to post cuz i dint want to mess any body up but i do have my org pin so can we keep going on ford from were we left off thanks i would love that.

ppl tellin bullshit by saying: No key found on 4000 so its lost...its just placed on another place. happens a couple of times...especially on samsung.
if you have read the firmware from your drive correctly u are havin the key too..just send me a message if u need help.
