My console just came up with a message saying that there is an update available for my console , just wondered if anyone knows what the update had in it , i updated it anyway but the update must have only become available today as i was signed in to live yesterday.

just was about to post this, umm all i notices is the dash revision changes from 6683 to 6690, maybe some drm fixes or something?

I think im gonna hold off on this one until C4E or someone in the community can shed some light on the code contained in the update.

Sounds way to suspicious to me with just over a week to go for the GTA IV release & it has been a few months now since we've heard from the M$ ban hammer.

Yup I totally agree with your points on GTA and the hammer, I dont like the look of this update at all!

Im pretty sure M$ have released featureless updates in the past with no detremental effect on modded consoles.
IIRC the spring update was a full dashboard update that started the first banwave.

I took the plunge and updated. Nothing untoward so far.

Just done mine & still connected to live afterwards.
I disconnected & reconnected a few times too & as reported in previous post, nothing untoward.

Could this be something Commodore4eva has to take a look at? An update followed by a ban wave could be a smart move from Microsoft just before release of GTA4.

true, first thing I thought - but this is one of my first 10 posts and I aint no MS worker Maybe he just got banned and had a look around for some info.. but it does seem a bit wierd! Hence we gotta wait for a few more reports. Hope they dont come though! Normally when the banning kicks in it is'nt like instant after the update is it? I thought last time they let people update then had a big banning wave a few days later, or am I talking rubbish? Cant rememebr!

major nelsons blog will never give you exact details on whats in the update (as they want to catch as many as they can).

they may be locking out drive spoofing, and possibly banning consoles, but i cannot confirm this. i suggest everyone try to hold off until more reports show up.



seems like the same thing they did with samsung drive downgrading which suggest its detecting a spoofed drive.

i took the leap and just updated my xbox. it didnt sign in straight away, but i am now signed in to live. dashboard and kernel version is now 6690.

This is why I hate MS. A no feature update with no release notes (that I could find). "Future growth" preparation can't include release notes?

If i remember rightly sometime last year there was a small update come out which was announced to be something to do with the future release of Scene It, something to do with the controller or something then a couple of weeks later BAM the ban hamer began to fall. I'll just stay well away from this until we hear more news from respected figures in the community.

Still no hardship i'll just play on PS3 on line or have a 32 player match of Team Fortress2 on the PC lol..

It could be anything from a list of trusted server connections to an IPv6 update.

And it is for the server maintenance upgrade on Monday. And they may not want everyone knowing what exactly what they are doing. I guess if we can accept those terms, we'll keep paying. I am mod-challenged so I am not sweating it.

I just updated and was scared but it went fine. No problems. Dashboard version is 2.0.6.6.9 now, not sure what is was before.

Well I'm going to disconnect my network cable so I don't accidentally update. I'd rather have no Live for a couple days, then update after C4E gives a green light or releases FW 1.5

Maybe people are just afraid of being banned because they like having both of both worlds? Being able to backup their games + playing games online, including Live Arcade games? The latter are impossible to backup. If you bought them but then you're banned you don't have access to them anymore...

Rumor on the #fw channel in efnet is that the dashboard update was an update to the marketplace for videos.

Someone also mentioned that c4eva said that the update was "ok".

Keep in mind though that this is all 2nd hand info.

I trust the channel as they have always brought in accurate news. But i would still recommend waiting for after the April 21st maintenance update to see if MS has unleashed a ban wave.

Hi, sorry if this might be my first post as i dont normally post unless i have a problem.

A few of my friends have modded 360's and use them online.

alot have updated recently in last few days, most are fine but one lad sayd his xbox 360 has unflashed and wont allow him to play backup's. apparently he can stll play original discs but not backup's and appears to be not banned from xbox live, so once he updated from live, he couldn't play copies no more, only originals, he has since reflashed his drive with ixtreme firmware but still appears not to play any backups that worked perfectly before the update.

I don't understand how this has happened as other people have not had any problems.
his xbox is Samsung MS 28 running ixtreme1.4

anyone shed any light on this issue?

Im willing to say here infront of all you people that if they are reflashing drives back to original firmware over live, and making em so they cant be reflashed then I will show my arse to everyone. Sorry mate but thats just not possible, he needs to recheck his backups and make sure there not the problem, if its not that it must be something else but its surely not because of the update.

MS is not flashing drives with some secret firmware via the update.

noticed that a few games also grabbed updates yesterday after this flash when i put them in, burnout was one of them and also army of 2. unless the updated cleared hd cache but i dont think burnout paradise has had an update yet.

Thats interesting as the same thing happened before the last ban wave came about. Can anyone else confirm their games grabbing updates? Maybe a pattern is starting here or maybe not
