my hp drive doesnt see that i have a blank dl dvd in the drive

Does your HP writer actually support double layer discs?

Heres some spec from nero's drive tool

A quick search on the web says the drive is fraught with problems and there is a known issue that prevents it from burning any discs and the only solution is getting a replacement.

You might have a lemon there.
