You could see if sony would replace it. I had bought one awhile back and rang up sony and they sent me a box, then a new console after I sent it back

Call Sony and try to see if they will fix it.
The north American phone number is:
1-800-345-SONY
If they say no then buy the laser.
Just be honest with them, dont mention where you bought it unless they ask. Sony will not fix it if the sticker is altered.
The worst they will do is say "No we will not fix it under warranty and we will not fix it if you were to pay us (if the warranty sticker is messed up)"
They may say "We will not fix it for free but for $xxx.xx we can repair it or send you a refurbished unit."
They may say "Send it in and we will take care of it under warranty."
Just call them they aren't the devil.
