@WhySoSerious70: HDTV Overscan. You shouldnt really have overscan problems on yout hdtv unless it doesnt have 1:1 pixel mapping but nearly all do.
Check the zoom button on your tv's remote. I didnt know i had zoom options for the component channel, i assumed it would be at a set size but it did look a bit zoomed in, so i clicked it and selected Full1 rather than Full2 et voila! Everything can be seen. Check your tv manual. Good luck.

Hmmm....perhaps. This is a 32" Vizio and it has 3 view modes that I know of. Normal, Wide and Panoramic. I'll try panoramic. That keeps it wide screen but pushes the edges in a bit. It may just do the trick.

Aug 9 2008, 12:55 PM
Odd. You shouldnt really have the option to change the aspect ratio as 720p is inherently widescreen. I only have the option for Normal, Wide and Panoramic when using 480i or 480p signals. They dont show up for 720p or 1080p, just the Full1 and Full2.
Is your tv LCD, Plasma or CRT?

hi WhySoSerious70,
I think you might have a xdsl version that has a problem with the sceen resetting when the 1.6 fix is used. It should be fixed in the current version. You can use it for any xbox version, but it seems like you might have solved it anyway
sudo rm -f /tmp/.X1-lock 2>/dev/null &

Well since it's not very time consuming, I just reinstalled it on my box. Set up my geometry then restarted and everything is fine. Still gotta tweak the settings as it doesn't fill the entire screen, but it is centered. And you're correct. In 720p there is no settings for normal, wide or panoramic. Thanks for the help.

hi
DrJ76, thanks for the bug report. Yea it was my fault, Imade some changes, and cus it booted first time I assumed it would boot second time also. Anyway, add this line to to the top of /home/dsl/.xinitrc1.6 and everything should be fine.
CODE
sudo rm -f /tmp/.X1-lock 2>/dev/null &
Please tell me if this works for you.
.
I messed with the 1.6 fix, but it was no help to my "black bars" situation. So, since I switched back to normal, should I just add this to the top of .xinitrc , or to the top of .xinitrc 1.6? I still get the error on boot every other time or so.

hi Master Reefed,
Add it to the top of .xinitrc1.6. and run the screen fix app again. All it does is remove the X1 lock file.

@Master Reefed
If you're still struggling with you underscan issues. Probably the easiest thing to do is alter the fbdev settings. As an example, (come out of any xorg, xfree86, xvesa and 1.6 screenfix your using) and execute this command:
CODE
fbset -g 680 520 680 520 32 -t 39721 20 4 12 -9 96 2;startx
This should enlarge the screen in a new display. If it doesn't work or you want to go back to where you were, just press ctrl, alt, del to exit it. You can alter the values occording to the overscan stickies.
If you want to make you new settings permanent, just copy the line into /opt/bootlacal.sh without the ;statx bit whick I'm sure you already know.

Hi stevewal thanks for making this alive again.

Its great.

I have the candidate 6.5 and in 720p i have some overscan issues.

No its not my lcd.

I am absolute no coder, could it be possible to make a default 720p size so no one must resize it? I would like to start it and for me as an enduser it would be great to run this in every resolution whithout issues.Looking forward to see this fixed? Thanks great work again
run088
Aug 19 2008, 03:13 PM
All my xboxes are ram upgraded on the 720p and I would venture to say that without this mod the 720p would kill video on the browser.
But as far as I can tell the fix is just those prefixed #'s that your changing to perfect the 1.6 screen fix.
That means just adjust the signals to the resolutions native signal and adjust from there.
Example on the ini the resolution is 600x480 which is basically a modded 480 resolution with the actual 480 resolution being 720x480.So if you replace this with 720p or 1080i it will change to these settings and the screen will then be way out of size and need adjusting but the increased resolution will be there.
On the screen fix side the 541x433 or whatever represents the original 720x480 native that we were talking about before. So replacing these numbers for 720p you would just need to start at the 720p base #'s and resize from there.Being 1080x720+0+0 when starting for 720p and 1920x1080+0+0 on 1080i.
This is a skill everyone using the program should be able to do because if you cant use this tool effectivly then your xbox will become stationary once the resolution is perfected. These settings will most likely not work on another tv.Once the 720p or 1080i is selected if you hook the xbox up to a tv that does not accept that signal after cromwell loads you will most likely have no video at all.

Hi scuba. Sorry to hear about ur illness. Hope it's something you can recover from. You've been a great help, so if you would like to lend a hand in the future it would be greatly appreciated. Hope you get well soon.
hi Agitator,
As run088, says the signal is going to be different on all tv's. I've got a tv and a monitor that work fine with 720p and no overscan issues. Personally I use 640x480, because as run088 says again I could only watch many flash videos in a small window in 720p, as the processor was overloading (and that's with a ram upgrade)
But anyway I've made a kind of giu frontend for fbset. It does simple things like expand or reduce the screen size and move the screen up, down left and right. It will do it in a new display, so if your tv does not like the setting you select and can't see anythin then it will return to the old display in 15 secs. I've only tested it on my monitor at 640x480 so far, but it should work at other resolutions.
any way, you can find it here:

cant "run .dsl files.
.dsl files are installs for programs specifically setup for dsl.
you can either navigate to the directory of the .dsl using emelfm, highlight it, then hit the "MYDSL" button at the top to install it.
or, you can rename the file to whatever.dsl.tar.gz, then double click to open it, copy the files to the directory it coincides with...the directory tree will be in tact inside the file.

Yes you probably can. I'm using a similar one on xdsl right now. Best to get one that works out of the box thought. Definatlely keep your receipt though as some usb adapers work and some don't.
Kick In Da Door. I have to say that I really don't know what the problem is there. The only time I got a similar problem was when I changed the video resolution in unleashx, that I was launching from, and it set up some weird compatibility error with xromwell. Try launching from avalaunch if your using unleashx.
Of course double check that everything is spelled correctly in your linuxboot.cfg. Sometimes there is extra charcters in this file that you can't see in some editors. Best to check the file in various editors to see if there's anything there that sould'nt be.

Thanks for your excellent work on this project!
I have a loopback install and have installed java, flash 9, FF2 and used your fix to fill the screen. All looks great, but I can't get FF2 to launch. It worked at one point for one or two launches, but now when I right click the FF icon and select * Firefox 2 nothing happens.
How do I uninstall applications like Firefox 2 so I can do a fresh install of them? I don't see a folder with the add ons I installed from the X-DSL menu, does it just lump them into the KNOPPIX file? If that's the case I suppose I have reinstall everything again.

I installed the Firefox2 Bon echo version through the MyDSL Extension tool, UCI option. I now have a version of Firefox2 working. I updated the Flash to ver 9 through the upgrade menu and pages (Slacker.com) still stated they need me to update to Flash 9. I installed the Flash update through Firefox and it seems to have taken, Slacker.com, Yahoo.com immediately crash Firefox2 now. Is this normal, are these Flash pages just too media rich for the xbox?

The reason I've set up the upgrades in this way is because flashplayer 9 does'nt work in xdsl without a fare bit of messing around.
try installing firefox2 again using the upgrades menu. it will just overwrite the old one.

Hello, I have X-DSL 0.6 running on a Xbox 1.0, which is plugged to my Samsung 206BW screen with a homemade VGA cable (with LM1881). It runs pretty well.
But the 800x600 is not very comfortable for browsing the internet. You can customize your resolution with the "Screen Resizer" tool posted by stevewal

You can fill the screen using the method at the bottom of the XDSL

It doesn't work. The screen goes black but X-DSL is still booting (I can hear the HDD).
I do not use a Component cable, or a XVGA2 or any converter, just a simple homemade VGA cable. It is detected in the Xromwell as a "VGA SoG" cable and in XBMC as a "VGA" cable. 480p, 720p and 1080i don't apprear in the MS Dashboard.
I already searched the web, but all the pages found about X-DSL and high resolutions only talk about YUV cables and HDTV, not VGA and monitor...

Master Reefed,
You've definately got me stumped here. One more thing b4 I give up on ur screen size problem. Replace you're xromwell with this
default.xbe.
Then when you get the xromwell boot screen, go to settings an choose video -> widescreen. Just a wild guess but it's worth a try.
baldinger,
Yea I'm not sure about the compatibility of cromwell/xromwell and home made vga cables. OK I'll have a quick look. ................ Hmm, maybe you need a different cable ie x2vga to get 720p. Or do the Xbox's internal sync signals mod. Xromwell obviously will output vga signals. OK I admit it I really don't know the answer lol. brb.
You could try the same advice I gave Master Reefed above and use the newer xromwell bios above, just in case there is some new copatiblity to your video encoder chip, that will help you get higher vga settings.
Master Reefed
Aug 27 2008, 01:26 AM
no change steve, it already said widescreen... I'm guessing cause of my dashboard settings.
the only thing that really urks me, is that the screen fits with EVERY other app/game.
really man, no biggie though, I can see the screen fine, just kindve an irritating itch ya know? lol
Thank you sooooo much for all your effort, this release works so very well.

The resizer works for me @ 720p however the desktop background and windows seem to have dropped to a lower bit depth. And all desktop icons dissappear. Im only a beginner so now im stumped. Looks like its 256 colour or 8 bit graphics or something.
run088
Aug 28 2008, 04:35 AM
My guess is maybe ram related if you dont have the upgrade. The 720p signal seems alot for the xbox to handle even with the upgrade on some of its features.
Also how is yours setup?
If the screen fix is not used and the config file is altered only what do you get?
I ask because there is a possibility the screen may be over sized and has not disappeared but are overscanned out of the screen.
Depending on the tv model the #'s will very from tv to tv by a large margin.

Aug 28 2008, 02:09 PM
cbagy,
yea you're right the screen resizer does'nt work properly for 720p. Unfortunately I cna't improve it as the fault lies with fbset (a program the resizer uses). It kinda makes no sense either cus setting it to the default values for xfbev does'nt work either. I've spent hours on this. Anyway for now we can say it works for 640x480 and I think 800x600 but I need somone to test this as 800x600 is not supported by my monitor corectly.
Agitator,
OK this is another sticking point. You can easily create a 4gb loopback file and install xdsl onto it. Now for some reason when xdsl boots it doesn't recognise any size over 2gb. You might think it should be a simple script change, but there is nothing in the scrip to limit the recognisible size to 2gb. The install script can easily be changed to 4gb and installs flawlessly. So your guess is as good as mine.
The boot script is: the linuxrc in the minirt.gz or irdloop.gz
the loopback install script is /usr/sbin/xbox-loopbackinstall. Here you will see:-
CODE
[ "$IN" -ge 200 -a "$IN" -le "$AVAIL" -a "$IN" -le 2000 ] 2>/dev/null || IN="200"
whick can be changed to:-
CODE
[ "$IN" -ge 200 -a "$IN" -le "$AVAIL" -a "$IN" -le 4000 ] 2>/dev/null || IN="200"
and you should see xdsl install flawlessly, untill you try to boot it.
As for the swap, I don't think there is a normal swap partition limit. The only limit I know is the preset to 256mb for a native install. As a rule of thumb the swap should be around double the ram. So 128mb for an xbox or 256mb for an upgaded xbox (like one of run088'sl)

No space error may be related with your FILE SYSTEM created at loopback install, try a bigger file system, 2000Mb is the maximum.

1) Edit this file:

4) It should look like this:

1. Is xbox modded already? I guess not. You have 2 options: build this:
http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Xbox_Linux_..._cable_yourself and use a compatible USB flash drive and use your MA disc to softmod the xbox with Krayzie's Ndure 1.1. Or use this tutorial:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=496263 which requires you to open up your xbox.
2. After the softmod, burning xdsl to a DVD-R or CDRW media and booting xbox with it will work.
