currently i am using a non-hdcp monitor so i have my ps3 component to vga converter to my monitor and my 360 with a vga cable has 1360x768 as a setting and looks amazing while my ps3 not so much any cheap fix to this? from googling it looks like i have to buy a ridiculously expensive scaler of some sort

you have to adjust the setting on your monitor. that's the only solution. other than that, go buy a new lcd with hdmi port.
