i dont have an xbox wireless adapter but i have a router etc and an ethernet cable but it wont reach my computer could i plug the ethernet cable into my laptop which picks up my wireless signal? thanxs

yes you can but not with a normal ethernet cable you would need a crossover cable to do this

actually, the 360's ethernet port is auto-switching, so you can use a regular patch cable or a crossover cable.
