From xhavok87.wordpress.com:
The new "Xbox Experience" Fall Dashboard has been leaked on the web and I had a chance to crack at it.
Update9: It has finally been done but NOTE, only modded systems at this point are able to do the install. The process is quite easy if you cannot figure it out but will not be released at this time. A fellow member here by the name of xg4m3r has discovered a path for modded consoles to install the update as you can see in the video below. Like I said in update 8 we are still working on this process to see if we can manage anything on retail consoles. We are not releasing anything at this time but more news is to come soon. Enjoy for tonight because tomorrow should be a whole other day! See you soon! NOTE: Your Xbox 360 NEEDS to have the Infectus 2 Chip in the system for this work. Not just a modded FW hack the chip is required also. Sorry for the confusion!
Some other info: * Update Works On Dev/Test Units Right Out The Box! * A Call From M$ During The Update Is Asking For MAC Address from the XBox 360 to validate install. * Beta Stage 2 Release Begins In Mid August!
I am guessing because it got leaked on a dual layer DVD (or some sort of burned media) which a unmodded xbox won't read.

Maybe if you read a little bit...It says only consoles that have the INfectus 2 Chip installed can accomplish this... So no not the popular firmware hack...

Am I the only one scratching their head over this?
Edit: I answered my own question

Quoted from
http://xhavok87.wordpress.comQUOTE
In that code from the CertPack file in the directory of the update, shows that there is a security check in the update during install to verify the Console is on a certain acceptance list from M$ to allows the continuance of the installation. Seems like there is more then 1 route to go with the installation. Right now the only thing I can think of to get it working is the following…
1. Have a update higher then public release with the required .xex files as stated on other sites.
2. Proxy with Xbox 360 to allow bypass of this check. (Which I’m Currently Working On Right Now)
Also, I found this little bit intresting...

Ok so now we possibly have a breakthrough on retail consoles. As you all should know by now the Update Files are all RSA Signed and almost impossible to edit the files. But thanks to a “Team Member”, we might have found a way to “Resign the PIRS Containers”, which is used to validate the Xbox information allowing the install to go through.

I'd like to just see him do stuff on it to show if it is faster, show what it looks like (capture card would be nice).
From what I saw when he was in the settings screen it seemed tons faster, but the funky letters looked weird though.

I feel like I'm missing something - does this have any relevance to homebrew?
Otherwise, installing a dashboard update a couple months early seems pretty unexciting...

It's probably under homebrew since it's fake.
1. The images are lined up wrong, they are all supposed to be vertically aligned, the reflection tricks the eye. In that "video" they are aligned based on the horizon.
2. The top left only has two choices. It's supposed to have each category, and
3. The menu has all the categories which should be in the top left.
4. All the thumbnails are competely different and there should be avatars shown.
I've made a NXE menu myself for the zune, it turned out alright.

Microsoft will surely ban anyone who installs this and connects to Live, anyway. You can see it isn't working right in the video, so no point of installing it even if you're not on Live.

That would make since Seeing as all I see are english characters.
For all you people saying You dont care about a beta dash being installed, You need to think about this...M$ didnt plan for this to get around..so theres probably some holes in the dash we could exploit and maybe Fuel the fire for some possible homebrew on the system.

The beta files that were leaked a couple of days ago were the real thing and this also looks to be legit. I've been watching it progress over the last couple of days with people picking it apart and now eventually this. Whether anything useful like an exploit comes of it I have no idea but I think its pretty cool someone managed to get a leaked beta dashboard installed on their 360. Also remember it is a beta so might not be complete with all the options you'd expect to see in the final dash.

The thing I don't understand is...
Why do people never share this kind of stuff...? Now all depends on one guy, who is not releasing it because he is cool now being the only one.
Please release it, so all of us can work on it.

if you're talking about the update itself, it's spreading over the internet and I know where to download it but I'm not sure if this is allowed in here.
so, once you have the dashboard you can work on it yourself

Hey Guys, wanna know an easy way to get your Xbox banned?
How about using an unreleased dashboard while you aren't on the permitted console list using a technique that only works if your box is modded?

They say a modded XBOX is not a FW hacked box but rather a box with infectus.

I would say that this would require an exploitable box. This would be one that hasnt been upgraded past 4548 or is capable of being downgraded. These consoles are not all that common anymore.

Hey,
That what i figured out too, the Infectus 2 mod chip is used to downgrade the bios, I had one of these just before couple of weeks 'til one of my friends plugged in his HDD.
So i guess we won't be able to experience it

UPDATE #1
Well as of today the new “XBox Experience” Fall Dashboard has been leaked on the web and I had a chance to crack at it. There is a strange problem which I have been working hard at trying to crack but seems almost impossible without modded Xbox 360. You have to burn the “Update” to a CD-R or DVD then insert into your Xbox 360 and do the following if you are curious… (Videos Below Also!)
1. Turn on Xbox 360 and place “Update” disc into tray and close it. Wait for the Xbox 360 to read the disc title which should say “Mixed Media Disc”.
2. Now while leaving the disc in the tray power off your Xbox 360. Wait for it to fully shut off then power it back on.
3. After the load up banner, the disc should load up and ask you if you would like to update your firmware.
UPDATE #2
FILE:
Taken Down For Security Benefits… PleaseDO NOT E-Mail Me For Files…
For some reason though it comes up with a error stating that you must be connected online (which I was) to download the update which I can’t figure out. I will keep trying at this but if anyone has any ideas please do let me know! Thanks and enjoy!
UPDATE #3
In that code from the CertPack file in the directory of the update, shows that there is a security check in the update during install to verify the Console is on a certain acceptance list from M$ to allows the continuance of the installation. Seems like there is more then 1 route to go with the installation. Right now the only thing I can think of to get it working is the following…

2. Proxy with Xbox 360 to allow bypass of this check. (Which I’m Currently Working On Right Now)
UPDATE #4
Ok guys got good news! I finally got the install to go through. For some reason though after it installs it reboots the system then installs again and again and repeats itself. Working on a fix but I think I’m getting closer to the end of this install. I have a video being uploaded to youtube as we speak. After the install it still showed the blades menu when I manually reset the system. Then I went to put in a Xbox 360 game and a original Xbox game which you should notice as Fable. The process ask’s for a update which I’m guessing makes all the current database of games compatible with the new dashboard. What is weird about this whole thing is that it is still not showing the new dashboard and the process keeps repeating. More news to come soon!
UPDATE #5
As of right now the process seems like it’s coming to a end. We still have a few more things that we can test such as a few URL’s and Server Locations, and Infectus Dumps onto the Xbox360 (Which I’m Sure It Has Been Done) but no news about it no where so it’s worth a shot. If anyone is good with servers take a look here and see what you can find.

XXXXXXXXX
(Edited For Security Reasons!)
Also there are more URL’s located in the DashPack file located in the directory. Feel free to take a look. Find someting interesting please do let me know. All credits of anyones work will be greatly offered!
UPDATE #6
Ok time for some testing. Note we are not releasing any files so if you don’t have them as of now then your out of luck for now sorry. Here is the plan, anyone fimiliar with “Packet Sniffing” and can record a log of there Xbox 360 trying to install the “Fall Dashboard Update” please contact me via AIM. We need quite a few people to do it so if your interested in providing support to the team please do.
UPDATE #7
Just something to get the community a little excited. Enjoy!
* Update Works On Dev/Test Units Right Out The Box!
* A Call From M$ During The Update Is Asking For MAC Address from the XBox 360 to validate install.
* Beta Stage 2 Release Begins In Mid August!
* Retail Update News Still To Come Soon!
UPDATE #8

But thanks to a “Team Member”, we might have found a way to “Resign the PIRS Containers”, which is used to validate the Xbox information allowing the install to go through. Give us just a little more time and we should have more information about it and show you if it is successful or not. This update is just to show you all what we are currently working on! Enjoy for now! ~~

nice copy paste.
From what I understand, you need the Infectus in order to downgrade your FW to the proper level.
One of the things they might find is whether or not this new update will be able to detect modified DVD FW.
Never underestimate a hacker!

Potentially I suppose if you connect to Live. However, seeing as you essentially need an infectus to install this dash, you have the ability to reflash to whatever kernel revision you want (or have backed up). So, if i were to use this, it would be offline only, then once wanting to use Live, revert back to the current kernel/dash and use Live. They wouldnt know the difference.

So from what I'm gathering from other posts you can't downgrade a current dashboard with the infectus anymore? Ones that have been on live recently are no longer downgradeable? I guess i missed that, i thought i could still downgrade with the timing attack, too bad.

QUOTE(torne @ Jul 1 2008, 01:00 PM)

No new 360s are downgradable; repaired ones also seem to not be downgradable. It's not dependent on the motherboard version - there are non-downgradable boards of every version. It's solely down to which second-stage bootloader is in the CB partition in flash - CB 1921 is not downgradable, the older versions are.

If they somehow make it possible to install on retail unmodded consoles then there will be no need to worry about being banned as there will be thousands of people downloading it.
If you haven't found the new dashboard files yet you can ask the "Demon" if you get what I mean. If not then you don't download much. Thats the only place I have seen it.

I don't know what this "Demon" is (I guess I don't download much

), but this "leaked dashboard" is available pretty much anywhere you look. A couple other forums discussing this dashboard have a "PM pool", apparently.
Provided a method to install this dash that doesn't involve voiding your warranty (ie: fw flash and/or infectus install) is discovered, then it probably won't result in a ban, as thousands of unmodded consoles will be doing it. If, however, this also results in a security hole of any kind (running unsigned code, backups, or things along those lines), then some recourse will arise (possibly a ban, though more likely an expeditious patch).
As it stands, I'm not sure that they'd ban anyone for it yet, as it doesn't seem to have any exploits thus far. I'm sure they could surmise that anyone not on their list who is running this dash must have opened their console to install their infectus, they could just as easily surmise that anybody with an infectus and exploitable 360 probably won't care much.

From a much more knowledgeable source;
Everything on that site is bullshit.
They didn't hack out anything. They didn't sign pirs containers, they merely flashed a leaked version of a flash dump.
You need your cpu key to inject your own Kv, and rehash your ldvs. Thats thier *secret* procedure, HaHa
The flash image was floating around last week, while they were trying to "download the update" and inspecting certificates, niether of which had anything to do woth producing that flash dump

First they claim to hack the pirs, then suddenly, you need infectus.
Dont believe it? Ask them how they produced that dump, ask them how YOU can install it to your OWN flash without an infectus ?!
What a bunch of lamers

Errr. it looks like Caster already posted a direct link to the more knowledgeable source.

you can install it on any box that can be downgraded to 1888. other than that or using an infectus and your cpu key, there's no way. and it's not useful anyways, since it's a beta that is missing a lot of functions and has a bunch of bugs too.

yes, you would have, if your console is still downgradable.
but since the release of the new dash isn't that far off anymore, I'd suggest to simply wait.
