I am extremely happy with this skin.
A really professional work was done here and I did switch to it instantly!
Sorry xTV... you were left behind!

My issues as a 4:3 user under 720x480i mode, NTSC-US:
- The font size (even using the bigger settings) is still a problem.
Not a BIG DEAL, but if they could be a bit larger it could be wonderful, specially on the file manager

- The file manager itself: For 4:3 no-wide screen I think the system info between the two wings
of file manager takes too much space. It could be nice to have on settings a button to turn ON and OFF
the system summary in the middle of the file manager screen.

- I have not searched yet, but is there a way to lock the side menu where we choose the different sort methods and file viewing? xTV has this and it was very useful, since you can lock the thing and no friend, family or anyone else could accidentally mess with your viewing settings.

The very very positive points:
- Finally (after editing the home.xml) I was able to bring SEPARATE items in the main menu for GAMES, EMULATORS and PROGRAMS, without the need to enter on APPS and from there navigate to the folders.
Moreover, on my new home menu EMULATORS, I was able to yet have a secondary submenu with quick
access to my favorite emulators.

- And -------- KUDOS TO THE DEVELOPERS, this skin is ergonomically awesome, visually neat and light as a feather. No fancy shiny glossy blurry crazy interface messed up with all kind of effects you can imagine. I loved
Mediastream. I hate skins that make me feel like reading a book with purple electric letters printed over cyan
pages decorated with chess patterns with magenta outlines (and with Super Mario running from one side to
another all the time, ah ha ha).

My contribution:

As you may noticed, I like plain simple, straight and lightweight skins, so I created some simple and neutral
backgrounds to use on Mediastream. Unfortunately there is no background to WEATHER since I got rid of it from my system, but if someone really wants, I can create one.

There are two themes - BITS and CARDBOARD.
Both uses Apple's icons on them, and everything is downloadable from a link in the bottom of my post,
after the screenshots. Besides the BGs i am also including around 20 icons 512x512 in PNG Alpha 24Bits,
perfect for anyone who wants to create new things, combos, and so on.

MediaStream v0.93 Released (29/09/2008)
Not too many significant changes this week as we've tried to take stock of what we've changed recently and tried to make sure it's all working correctly.

There's been a few additions to the sub menus on the Home screen as XBMC was changed recently so it no longer allows the user to start at Movie Titles and then navigate backwards (it will now take you back to Home if you try and navigate back too far). This meant we had to add more sub menu items to allow you to access stuff like Recently Added etc directly from Home.

Currently the lighter version of the theme is the default theme so if you want to see it in it's full glory then you'll need to select the Richer theme in the settings.

Over the coming weeks we're hoping to switch it around so that the richer theme will be the default and you'll need to select the lighter theme if you're having memory problems.

The major change this week is to switch around the themes in the skin so that the Richer theme is now the default theme and there's a new lite theme which you can use if you're having memory issues running the default one.

If you're using the Xbox we highly recommend using the lite theme as it'll be more responsive and will work much better with the tight memory constraints that the Xbox imposes

We've also made Media Preview style views available for TV media and did a bit of a tidy-up of the skin options. There's been quite a few posts over the last few weeks where users couldn't find relevant options so hopefully it should be a bit easier now.

Coverflow looks great! Better implementation than xTV skin, which is surprising as xTV is the intended apple-mock, yet this is closer.

I would think maaaybe a nice idea to give users the option of the 'shine/reflection' overlay on album covers of the album in the centre of the screen though, because it only appears once the album is in place, and goes immediately as it moves again, it seems alittle jarring to me, but a nice feature all the same keeping with the gloss look of the skin.

Looking forward to that music OSD record button!

This is such a beautiful skin guys. VERY nice work indeed. Anxious to follow up on this one. The ONE thing i think is laking is more views. Currently, maybe just me, i'm not quite taking to the 3 or so max views that are there. That's the only thing that honestly makes me use it thinking "It's just missing something...", because of the way the current views look. Otherwise, it's really some beautiful looking work you guys did. And thanks a lot for all your hard work involved and in the future.

We are in the process of elaborating on the available views at present. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we should have a few more choices available. We already have a few new mockups in the works so once we're happy we'll be implementing those.

I apologize if this has already been added (I'm still on 0.92), but one view I particularly miss is Wide or Big Wide in the programs/games. Any chance of seeing something similar to this? I put in wide icons for all my programs and games, and it just looks odd without one of those views.

First i want to say great skin secondly i would like to know how i change the starting possession for the menu as weather is Default and i cant seem to change it to movie tab i know some skins can set the default location whit the white button but know luck here.

This week we've introduced a new font to the skin which should hopefully make things like Movie/Episode plots easier to read (the new font is slightly better spaced than the and stands out better from the background). The font sizes are still the same as before, just the font itself is different, so if you still have any issues with the sizes of the fonts then please post details in the Font Sizing thread.

Coverflow view has been updated to now work with Movies, TV Shows, Seasons and Episodes and there's been a bit more tidying and polishing of the existing views and dialogs.

I'll speak to skunk about how we could possibly include the ability to select your own starting point in the menu. As it stands the focus has been put on weather as their is a small animation glitch otherwise.

I also have to agree that the shaded transparency is definitely too dark and covers up the fanart from being seen much in comparison. I would love to find a better % to use for the transparency level, but much less would be needed. I know it's still work in progress, it's just constructive suggestion. Looks very nice, and can't wait to see the new views in progress added, as well as SVN so we can be really up to date with changes.

Not sure it's a MediaStream issue but after updating to v0.95 and trying to watch something through Ninja Video, the show starts then after about 15-20 secs just stops and returns to the list of shows.

After changing to PMIII and trying again all shows play fine without stopping. I did downgrade to previous version of MS to check any differences but now skin is greyed out in options, I'll reinstall XBMC later and use previous version to check if same thing happens.

I have a background issue.

Great Skin - Finally found something to replace Vision Basic.

I have an issue with backgrounds on the home page. Seems they do not load reliably. I've tried .png .jpg and .bmp and I cannot get them to load reliably. When I up/down through the items I've enabled, I get blank backgrounds every so often. If I select the item associated with a blank backgound, it will appear. Then returning to home screen some other custom background gets the blank treatment. Is there a 'magic' resolution and image format that will prevent a blank image?

I have been saving things at 1366 x 768 which is my display's native resolution. XBMC is set for 480p. All images are local to my xbox hdd.

That sounds like a memory issue to me. Can you try scaling those images down to 1024px wide and test at that resolution. Thats the setup I use. Saved in JPG format running at 720p.

New font is easier to read, nice, but the old font gave this skin such a distinctive look, I mean, the graphics themselves of course give a lot of this impression but the font for me gave it a classy finish.

It would be nice to still be able to choose that font if we wanted to I think.


Couldn't find the record button in music OSD, is it in 0.95? I might have missed it cos I have it set to horizontal music osd layout.

I'm liking the skin a great deal. Although it threw my 6 year old twins for a bit of loop. They had become so used to Vision Basics, they thought their beloved xbox was somehow different now. I assured them it was different - better.

how di fix my problem i went back to older version of xbmc n this skin i get same thing

Thats a strange one I haven't seen that before. Can you try removing any traces of MediaStream from your guisettings.xml so that you are starting with a clean slate and see if this still occurs.

Also one other thing I assume that those shots comes from a library view rather than just the standard listings mode.

I know its probably just part of the technology I have, but a quick question.

I have a 16x9 tv, but it's a crt (not HD at all). By setting the skin 4x3 and stretching it i can read all the text but obviously all the videos looks strange. And by setting it to 16x9 most of the text becomes unreadable except for the parts that are effected by the bigger or massive setting, which so far I have found to be mainly the movie names.

Also with now a tv and movies section, how do i when i click movies go straight to my smb share for that rather than the choice between all my smb shares?

im having a similar issue with the TV shows tab. The movies come up through my share, but i cant access my tv shows on the share unless i go to videos. I looked for a way to add a share to the TV tab but it goes to a screen like was posted before.

GREAT SKIN, im glad that people are still working on this stuff. this skin will be going on my HTPC!!!!

One compaint is that there seems for me at least a little difficulty in seeing what my cursor is on. like when i want to select OK or Cancel or just scroll though my list of movies. The highlighted text is a little hard to tell is highlighted.

It's been a few weeks since the last release as things have been rather hectic for us but we've still been working away on the skin and have hopefully dealt with a number of the issues that have been raised in feedback since the last release.

The biggest noticeable difference in this release is the addition of the new Wall Stream view (which as the name suggests is a wall style view). It currently works best with portrait aspect thumbs or music album covers but we're planning to add support for episode thumbs in a future release.

If its unreadable because of size, just ftp your font xml over to your pc and edit the sizes in notepad then transfer it back and overwrite. I always edit the font size in all my skins. I like some font bigger, some smaller. When you edit it just go bigger by 2 at a time. like from 14 to 16. It can take a little time, but its worth it and I always keep a copy of my edited font file on my pc so when I update to a new version of a skin, I can just ftp that file over top of the existing one.

sorry for double post but I waited too long to edit. First off this skin is beautiful. By far the best looking skin ever released for XBMC. Second, where can I get my hands on the pictures you used for your thumbnails. Since it seems that the skin really tailors towards box thumbnails instead of wide, but my wide do work, is there a chance you could incorporate the icons you used in the next release. It would be well worth going through and deleting all my old wide .tbn files to replace them with the box style you are using. If a thumbnail downloader already exists in the skin, how do I use it? thanx

freesafety13.......You can use the IMdb scraper to get those wonderful "movie poster" icons, as opposed to your wide icons.

Yeah, I knew about the Imdb scraper, been using it for years to get thumbnails for cd's. I tried to use it for my movies but it wouldnt work, just kept asking for the name of the movie and never connecting to gather information. And what about games, I didnt see an IMdb for games. I was hoping an icon pack could be released along with the next update when it comes out.

Glad to see the old font being available

Just a thought.. I don't know if this is xbmc's fault, or the skin.. but in coverflow (mypictures) the thumbnails are quite rough looking. Switch to another view type and they might be perfectly clear, or pick another and they will be blur at first, then come clear.

When we're scrolling through the images in ImageStream view, we catch glimpses of the MYPictures background in the transition between one photo and the next. Is there any way to eliminate this? It can seem confusing.


- One last thought, has Team Razorfish ever considered adding some pink into the colour scheme? It's not something that would come to my mind typically, but when I saw bbc using it I thought, wow thats actually pretty nice:

ps - Im not keen how the vice city image is used to demo the viewtype in my pictures. I was involved with that title and im sick of it! haha

I would also like to know how to make the fade a little more transparent as you loose so much of the fanart, can this be done via an xml change?

Using the latest SVN of xbmc Win32, and latest build of MediaStream (0.97):

Noticed a few things:

* If you select to view by library, instead of files, xbmc fails to remember this for next time you hit my videos. I am guessing this is a problem with MediaStream, as it works as it should do using other skins.

* When I store a film to dvd, I put on the disc:

Film.tbn
folder.jpg

(just to make sure I get at least one of the images to show up)

I'm really chuffed to see the option to let users choose a folder to grab DVD background images (I set mine to the dvd drive- but they do come out a bit stretched :s A typical dvd cover has book-like dimensions, but Mediastream stretches the image across the screen- any way to keep the aspect ratio? (so all you have is a nice picture of the coverart showing?)

last thing,
* When I boot xbmc, (fresh install of latest SVN Win32 with MediaStream 0.97), the cursor highlights "Check The Weather" by default. The problem I have is, the rest of the graphics fail to load in. If you move up and down, they then will, but I think they should be there regardless right?

MediaStream v0.99 Released (21/11/2008)

Only one step away now from the mythical (or so it seems anyway) v1.00 release and hopefully now we're getting to a stage where most of the bugs and issues are now cleared up and the skin works for 99% of the users. We've done quite a bit of work this time on clearing up most of the issues and options that people have been asking for and also a bit more work on reducing the memory usage of the lite theme (we can't really do much more or we'll lose the skin's identity).

The big thing to note for this release is that if you find any problems or issues then you need to post details ASAP. We are planning to release the V1.00 release in the next couple of weeks and once that is out we won't be doing many further releases for a while as we are going to be concentrating on developing the new skin (one for the fanart-fanboys).

As far as we're concerned we have pretty much added all the features we originally planned to and dealt with all the issues that needed sorting so if there's anything still not working or missing then you need to let us know now. (This does not include changes to views/layouts based on your own particular preferences as we're now at a stage where we think we've finished the design part of the development, it's now time to make sure it's stable and operational).

It's almost certainly not the end of the development of the skin as we may decide to come back and make changes or add new features in the future but for now we need to move on and concentrate on something new.

I've noticed with all the Atlantis skins. That certain feature I used to like seems missing.

Specifically, I recall an option in older skins to revert to list view when you get to the bottom of a recursed folder set.

So for example with an older skin. I could keep cover flow (or similar), and when I go from
Folder - Hard Stuff to...
Folder - Megadeth to...
Folder - Peace Sells But Who's Buyin' to..
a nice list of the songs. No more big icons saying no thumb. etc..

See I don't use library mode, just browse a big honking NAS with folder.jpg everywhere, and all the files are <track no - title.mp3> format.

Same goes for videos, I'd like to get where I'm going while looking at the nice folder.jpg eye candy. And when I get the final folder containing a single .avi I'd rather not have a big honking icon repeated over & over to fill out the coverflow.

I've tried various settings in this skin and others as far as remember view etc.. but they do not seem to have the desired effect of 'revert to list view when you get to discrete file level' or words to that effect.

Any of that make sense?

This does not work on PAL 4:3, it keeps on sitting on the left, wether or not i have selected that option from the skin options.

In 4:3 most of the items on scren are off, for example items going outside of the box on the keyboard screen. Apart from these small errors, great skin.

MediaStream v1.00 Released (4/12/2008) - At last!

We've made it! v1.00!!

It's been a long and winding road since we first started this project (and a lot of people who have been part of it have come and gone) but we've finally completed pretty much all the features and functionality that we originally planned for the skin.

There aren't too many changes in this release, as the goal for this release was not to add any new features but to tidy up and stabilise existing stuff. Hopefully we've managed it.

We're now going to concentrate on developing a new skin (one for the fanart fanboys!) so releases and updates to MediaStream will not be anywhere near as frequent as they have been. We will still be keeping an eye on the forums however, and if any major issues arise then we'll try and sort them out ASAP.

There is a Feature Requests thread that we'll aim to keep up to date. It contains a list of all the features that users have requested but we haven't been able to fit them in before the v1.00 release. Our goal is that all the features listed in the first post will be implemented at some point (dependent on the time we need to dedicate to the new skin).

Hope you enjoy the skin and I'm excited to see what (if any) further MediaStream mods that start to appear now that we've put it in SVN.

As of v1.00 you can now get access to the full source code (including textures) via the XBMC Skinning Project. Download it using SVN from https://xboxmediacenter.svn.sourceforge.net...ter/MediaStream

The changes since the last release are as follows:

* Fixed: Width of text in the System Info screen
* Fixed: Positioning of the focus image for the vis settings button in the Music Visualisation screen
* Fixed: Aligning of the Now Playing UI on Home when shown on right of 4x3 screen
* Fixed: Width of Clock background when Large Clock is enabled

* Updated: Glass overlay image, to make it slightly stronger so that it works better with lighter images and dark images
* Updated: Parent Folder image to make it fit better with the rest of the skin
* Updated: Tidied up sub-menu animations on Home screen when moving between first and last items (made more consistent)
* Updated: Dutch, German and Chinese (Traditional) translations


We may not be updating the skin as frequently as we have in the recent past but we still want your feedback (we'll be keeping an eye out and updating MediaStream during any breaks we get in the development of the new skin).

The MediaStream default font seems to lack german umlauts (ä,ö,ü), i get blanks where they are suposed to be in the german translation

Does this skin work well on the XBOX? I am having issues playing back video from file shares with this skin. I can playback video just fine with the PM3 skin. The problem does not happen every time. Mainly when I try DVD VOBs on a file share, and I try to use the Watch Movies option. It seems to work a little better from Watch Videos. I am thinking maybe it has something to do with the Fan Art ? Am I running into a memory or processor limitation of the XBOX? I also noticed that T3CH was no longer putting this skin into his builds. Is this the reason why? OBTW - I am running my XBOX at 720p (if that info helps).

I also use this skin on a couple of my PCs, and it is wonderful. No major issues at all. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like your having memory issues running the skin. Couple of things to try .. Switch to the Lite Version of the skin in appearance settings. Also try reducing the size of your fanart to 896px wide.

Any chance you could up a screen of where the font issue is and I'll have a look. I did notice a comment on the xbmc.org forums about the encoding type of the german xml being wrong. I'll look into it further and see what I can do.

Hey, found a quite irritating bug.

"Sort by name" does not work in Images/Pictures. It works for music and videos. And it works in PM3.HD.

Must be some linking that's missing. Would be nice if you could fix it, or point me to the file where I can fix it.


Otherwise its a really stable and great looking skin with no competition!

Thanks for the info. I have had a look at the issue you are seeing and don't see it it my end. It seems like it may be a configuration issue at your end. Can you check through your settings to see if anything strange is going on. Also can you try PM3 for example to see if the issue still appears and let me know.
