Today, 60 officially becomes the new 20 as Xbox 360™ announces a 300% increase in storage capacity of the original console from 20GB to 60GB for the same price - £199.99 ERP.

Available in stores across the UK from 15th August at no extra cost, the new 60GB Xbox 360 enhances your capacity for fun by giving you three times more room to download the things you love. Whether it's blockbuster movies, music or games, Xbox 360 offers it all through its online entertainment network - Xbox LIVE. Pioneering the digital revolution in your living room, Xbox LIVE is the World's largest entertainment provider of High Definition experiences with over 12 million members, and a new member joining every five seconds.

"No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide" said Neil Thompson, Senior Regional Director, Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft Ltd. "Now the Xbox 360 has triple the space to house all your entertainment needs at no extra cost."

Xbox 360 is just one of three Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment systems Microsoft offers. Microsoft's Xbox 360 Arcade, which comes with a 256MB memory unit and five Xbox LIVE Arcade games is great value for the whole family to enjoy at £159.99 (ERP), while the Xbox 360 Elite, with a huge 120GB hard drive, delivers the ultimate entertainment experience for £259.99 (ERP).

Out of the box, the Xbox 360 console is ready to provide an incredible gaming and entertainment experience:
* Xbox 360 console. The console comes in a stylish cool white finish and is powered by three processors capable of producing the best in high definition (HD) entertainment (up to 1080p for gaming), 16:9 wide-screen cinema aspect ratio, full surround sound, anti-aliasing for smooth on-screen textures and "high-definition multimedia interface" (HDMI) output.
* 60 GB Hard Drive. The 60GB detachable hard drive allows gamers to save their games and store movies, music, pictures, trailers, levels, demos and other content available from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the premier one-stop digital download centre for entertainment.
* Upscaling DVD Player. With an HDMI cable (sold separately), watch your favourite normal DVDs in near high-definition using the upscaling capabilities of Xbox 360.
* Xbox 360 Wireless Controller. This award-winning, high-performance Wireless Controller features the Xbox Guide Button for quick, in-game access to friends and music. It has a range of up to 30 feet and a battery life of up to 30 hours.

Nice, so I guess we will see the 60GB version in the rest of Europe too?

Microsoft obviously failed at maths, as 20gb to 60gb is a 200% increase, not 300.

ah, i think you must of failed at maths. 200% would be 40Gb, so MS is correct that 60Gb is %300 of 20Gb

anyway, great news

Wonder which rom drive will be packed with them....

I'm pretty sure it will be a Lite-on (or other unhackable drive).

Yes I am too, and also whether it's the 65nm Jaspar GPU. MS has been saying it is taking doing well in Europe especially seriously so maybe Jaspar may come out here first, now.

20GB + 50% = 30GB
20GB + 100% = 40GB
20GB + 200% = 60GB

announces 300% the storage capacity
20GB x 100% = 20GB
20GB x 200% = 40GB
20GB x 300% = 60GB

announces a 300% increase in storage capacity
20GB + 100% = 40GB
20GB + 200% = 60GB

The above is correct in that it's a 200% increase, which is 20GB + 2 * 20GB = 60GB. Microsoft is wrong in that it should have said it was 300% of the ORIGINAL amount, not a 300% increase of the original amount. The same logic problem also occurs for "giving you three times more room to download," when you only get two times more.

Which is worse than what Western Digital and SanDisk did when advertising hard drives and memory cards!

Class Action anyone?!

Who cares about 60GB. I want a 360 that will last longer than 6 months muhaha.gif

Anyone know how much the 60gb hard drive is on its own? Some of us early adopters may want to upgrade

Early adopters get screwed again! It would be nice if MS offered us the chance to exchange our 20gig drives for one of these 60gig ones for the cost of postage or for a small fee. I am running out of disk space!! (and i quite like the sound of being able to store one or two games on the harddrive for quick loading) The 120 gig drive is still extortionatly priced imo
batman91
have there been any rumors about a larger hardrive (bigger than 120gb) at all. do you guys see that coming? just wondering because im goign to buy a western digital and hack togetehr a harddrive, and for a few quid more i can get larger harddrives, but in the end its pointless if i can never use it :S

Is it really worth it to make your own anymore?. I see a few places selling the 120gb drive (official with transfer cable) for £70 delivered.
grim_d
yeeeehaaa, i was hoping they would announce this before the end of the month, i will be picking one up on friday the 29th of august biggrin.gif

The 120GB WD drives are about £25 to £30 - and all else you need is a scewdriver.

You don't require a transfer cable that way either - since you have to open it up just back the drive up to your PC over SATA and restore to the new drive from there.

Then spend the £40 you saved taking your partner out to a Jazz club for a nice dinner :-)

I'd thank you to properly read what I say before trying to correct me, as a few posters have already backed me up. Microsoft said a 300% INCREASE, which is incorrect.

anyone know if it'll have the 65nm GPU and 65nm CPU??

The one's in America don't, it's a revised falcon board with just a 65NM CPU. I don't think we will see Jasper until around Xmas time when they will sell a ton of them. August is just the shipping date I think for Jasper. They still have all the falcons to sell.

Actually...was thinking about this - it turns out that Microsoft is correct...

20GB drive has 14GB of free storage available.
60GB drive has 54GB of free storage available.

Which means it is about a 300% increase LOL.

PWNED!
