The whole point of buying verbs seems like it's gonna go the way of the Dodo soon. When we can install games to the hdd, our DVD rom drives will only have to read the disc for a second or two to verify the correct game is inserted. This will basically cut out all disc read errors and excess laser wear.

Is anyone alse gonna still bother with em? It seems like a smarter move to save your cash, buy a 120gb hdd, then backup your games to some cheap media that's a quarter of the price.

how much you pay for verbs? im getting them for £13 for 10 which is reasonable since all i can get locally is memorex which are £15 for 10

I get em off ebay for about £14 for 10. Aone discs are £4 for 10 from my local computer shop. Zero defex are even cheaper.

Basically, buying three spindles of cheap discs will save me around £30... that's not bad at all.

Still going to buy them. I'm happy enough playing from disc. Will probably only bother using the hdd feature for an odd game like gta or others than stream off the disc.

Since you brought it up, I'll ask the obvious question--if you intend to copy the entire game to the hard drive, put the original back in the case and never touch it again, doesn't that eliminate the need to even burn backups?

Why would you bother burning a disc at all, just to take that backup and copy it to the 360 hard drive? You've got to read your original at least once either way. Sounds like a stupid plan to me.

How you guys copy the games in 120g and play from there? I want to know..

You still need to insert the disc every time you play. Before you say "what's the point then?", playing from the hdd will speed up loading times, quieten the console and reduce drive wear.

Yep. And if you don't even want to use your original to dump, you will have to use verbatims anyways or the drive can't read the disk to dump it to HDD.

I doubt using your original disc for 5 minutes is gonna do it much harm. Besides, you're gonna have to use it at least once to make the backup.

Unless your 360 is poor at reading cheap discs and consistantly scratches originals, there shouldn't be a a need for Verbs.

If your 360 drive doesn't scratch discs it should make no differnece whether it spins for 5 seconds or 5 hours. For me backups are essential because no matter how many times I try to teach my kids to be careful with discs, they still manage to end up looking like they've just been used as dinner plates.

i will save my hdd space for more important data than a 360 game.. most people have a collection of games more than 6 or 7... so even a 120 gig will fill up fast.. that means less space for other more important content...

now if m$ releases like a 1tb drive then that might be a bit worth it...
other wise i will stick with poping the disks in each time.. my old xbox 1 is still running like a champ dvd drive and hdd... by the time my 360 drive starts to go bad .. will have to buy another 360 anyways...

newegg.com sells the verbatums for like $30 for 20 and free 3 to 5 day shipping so u can make the backup for like $1.50 so you can make 1 backup and 19 chew toys for your dog and still come out cheaper then 1 $60 chew toy for the dog

Exactly my thoughts. Given you still have to get up and off your arse to change the disk anyway, whats really the point? Yes I hear you saying less wear and tear and oh so slightly faster load times, but if your installing the full game, even on a 120gb HD your still only going to fit 17 or 18 games on there at max. With other content even less.

I don't know about everyone else, I have a lot more games than that (Yer ok some aren't played so often). Given there is still no disk defragger for the 360, if your changing the games over all the time, I'd imagine any speed enhancements will be lost over time due to file fragmentation anyway.

In short, I don't think I'll cut the verbs loose just yet.

I see you came to that figure because you divided 120 by the size of a 360 iso (7gb) What you're forgetting is that most games are far smaller when you take only the data into account. Most of the iso is just padding and dummy files.

The average game is probably more like 3-4gb when you extract only the files, meaning you'll be able to fit nearer to 30 on your hdd.

I feel that 10 games would be enough on the hdd, but that's a personal choice.

You obviously don't have kids. I live with 6 younger siblings.

Already I have been spared having to repurchase four games (Rock Band (2x), GTA IV, CoD 4) because the disc that was stepped on/scratched by moving the console while it was in (2x)/put in the dishwasher (don't. even. ask.) was a backup and not an original.

With kids, nothing is ever safe and backups are never pointless.

I guess the point I'm trying to get to is that having the HDD install in place, won't really make everyone decide they don't need to make backups anymore. Since you still have to use the disk anyway. If they or someone else ever introduces a full install with no disk requirement, then I'll be on board. I'd still have some issue with HDD size however, but can't imagine I'd need more than 30 games installed at any one time.
