Microsoft about Web-based XBLA Interface

Broad details about Microsoft's further plans for its new Xbox 360 dashboard were relayed to developers at the UK Gamefest event in London last week, Develop understands.

One session about Marketplace sales and content explained that Microsoft is readying a web-based interface to the online store (which sells DLC, Xbox Live Arcade Games, and also movies) that is currently only accessible via the console interface.

Via the new storefront users will be able to browse available Xbox 360 content from their computer - either at home or work - which will be then be 'sent' to their console as a download. (Presumably, the system requires the console to be in a sleep mode and utilises the on-board download manager to work.)

With the Marketplace having a web-based counterpart, Microsoft told assembled developers that it will be possible for them to virally promote their games via links on the web. The same features are also expected to be available to indie developers using the XNA Creators Club channel when that launches with the new Xbox 360 dashboard update later this year.

No, it means that users will be able to browse the XBLA titles from a web browser and select some to download. Xbox software is still locked into Xbox Live's network (no connections to outside machines, like web servers, etc).

Don't think this is going to happen, i believe it will be a lot more like www.bungie.net and the way you can send gametypes to your xbox already.

So when you turned your 360 on, the download manager would be populated with the things you bought on the web and would start to download?

That would be more likely, however in another article (on the same subject) MS are quoted as saying that "the content will then be available for you by the time you get home", which suggests more along the lines this article is hinting at - i.e having the 360 on "sleep" and would stat to download straight away. Wake-over-LAN? (or whatever its called!)

Yeah, it was stated in another article that it would start downloading when you turned on the console. It was stated in the same article that a remote wake feature was something they were working on for the "future", which is of course what made the front page story on Xbox-Scene.
