it says that max speed is 8x-10x, does that means i can't burn it at 2.4x?
Havok
Slower is not always better!! You can burn media at any speed through thr software.

For 8X I wouldn't burn at 2.5X.... The rule I go by is half the rated speed is usually OK.

virgin87
do microsoft detects it if you don't burn at 2.4x?

2.4x speed is said so the game can copy correctly on the disc, so there is no bad burns(coasters). Just burn it at 2.4x on imgburn, my discs said 8x and i burned them at 2.4x it worked for me, but it might or might not for you.

would backups work with made in india verbatim?
jesterrace777
It all depends on the individual batch of discs. Some are almost as good as the MIS Verbatim discs and others are worse than the cheaper quality DL media manufacturers. Hence the reason why we recommend the MIS Verbatim since they are much more consistent with quality. As for burn speed, I have not burned a single backup slower than 4x and I have burned them as high as 8x with no issues. So unless you have a crappy burner/firmware revision, there is really no need for the 2.4x burn.

First of all I don't want to say you guys are dumb or anything but it has nothing to do what brand that is more compatible with xbox 360. Phillips/BenQ drives are compatible with memorex dvd +R dl and the old memorex dvd +R dl RW. The "RW" doesn't mean rewritable in a sense that you can put computer files on the disk and delete it. It means rewritable as in if you have a digital video camera and u put the disk in you can keep recording video over it. Memorex has recently been kicked out of the company of having the RW symbol on the disks meaning they arent compatible with "SAMSUNG ms28/ms25" drives anymore and thats why EVERYONE loves verbatim now for backups. Verbatim disks that have the RW symbol on it work with both samsung ms28/25 and everything else meaning they are pretty much universal. While MEMOREX now a days are only working with phillips/benq. If you still don't understand what im saying its that the DVD +R DL disks that got the RW symbol on it are universal. While disks that say DVD +R DL with no RW symbol on it will only work with phillips/benq drives. Sorry if I can't explain things that well im not an adult or anything im a kid but I figured it out myself and I want to share this information to the world.

If you notice in the pic the only difference between these disks is that I have a memorex disk that says
DVD +R DL which will only work with Phillips/benq and a DVD +R DL RW memorex disk which is universal. So screw memorex they don't make universal dvd dl disks anymore. The only company now that does it is Verbatim. I have a feeling that Verbatim has a monopoly now for making the RW disks which are universal.

To put it bluntly ^^^^You are talking crap.
Someone else will pop along to also point this out to you.
manrayds
Well first of all I have worked on every single xbox and tested every single different kind of dvd disks with it and thats how I know what im talking about. Im not the one going around making stuff up. Im the one pointing out the truth.

Lets see now then.

Right so a disc is only rewritable in a camera but not in your PC?? Have you any conception of what you just stated??

You seriously, really believe this? Basically that is also rubbish

You are now digging a bigger hole because basically that's not right either

Bad news you figured it out totally wrong

Once again you are talking absolute nonsense.
I can't really think you actually believe this stuff you deduced.
Please have a read round about DVD discs and compatibility, manufacturers etc
You will see what I am driving at

Gotta agree with you on this one manrayds. You're obviously right and know your stuff.

Just kidding, you're talking out of your rear end laugh.gif

Ok! Let me put it this way. I have 1 xbox with a benq drive and 1 xbox with a samsung drive. Both those xbox's have ixtreme v1.4. All my games work on my benq. Now, I test all my games on the samsung and only 1 of those games work. That 1 game that does work on the samsung drive is a memorex disk that has the RW symbol on it. While all my other games were burned on memorex disks without the RW symbols on it and they arent playable on my samsung xbox. Now I go to the store and buy verbatim disks and burn a game and it works on the samsung xbox and my benq xbox. But the same game burned on a memorex disk without the RW symbol only works on the benq xbox. While I burn the same game on my old memorex disks with the RW symbol on it that works with the samsung xbox and the benq xbox. I know I fucking wasted alot of disks just to make a point.

So if anyone is kind enough here to tell me why my old memorex disks with the RW symbol on it work on both my xbox's while the new memorex disks without the RW symbol on it only work with the benq xbox.

AND FIRST OF ALL IF U GUYS HAVENT NOTICED. VERBATIM DL DISKS COST MORE THAN MEMOREX DISKS. BUT VERBATIM DISKS WILL WORK ON ALL XBOX's.

NOW USE SOME OF YOUR BRAIN CELLS AND THINK OF WHY YOUR PAYING MORE FOR VERBATIM DISKS.
(its cause some of that money goes to microsoft.)

Anyone that can actually figure this out in a logical way deserves an award. Don't just yell at me. I know people who have the samsung drive and their memorex disks dont work on it. They go to the store and get verbatim disks and they work fine on it.
dangerouseddy
memorex dont make their own discs, they just buy them in and stick thier logo on them. the older discs you have are probably made by a different manufacturer.

verbatims work because they make thier own discs that are very high quality(most of the time).

manrayds could be on to something about Memorex discs without the "RW" symbol being less compatible. Maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe that batch of discs were made differently (different dye, etc).

manrayds:
If I burn a disk on my one burner, it will play on only one of my two players. If I burn the same type of disk on the other burner, it plays in both players. Go figure - it still comes down to compatibility. Verbatim are the first in line making sure/providing samples to have their disks compatible with as many players/burners as possible <- that is generally why we pay more for them, it costs them something to provide across the board compatibility (from players being able to read them, to burners supported those specific disks with tailored write stategies) which is something other brands don't seem to be all that good at doing.

As to the 'RW' logo, the lack of it suggests the disks weren't approved by the RW consortium - likely meaning poorer compatibility/testing processes. Then again, maybe it's on the sleeve/box instead, and just not on the disk itself (for those who like to print to them?)

A bit dated it appears, but it gives the idea behind the logo itself.

Am I missing something here? I actually feel dumber after manrayds' posts. The deal with memorex or verbatim has absolutely nothing to do with the aforementioned garbage. The first link in my sig should explain the real differences in great detail. Bottom line media manufacturers are the biggest determination of quality and compatibility, not some label on a disc. Memorex outsources to Ritek which vary in quality from batch to batch (to say nothing of the variables of your burner/firmware revision and your 360 DVD-ROM/firmware revision). The bottom line is that the Verbatim made in Singapore enjoys the greatest quality and compatibility standards for ANY application (not just 360 backups). It's not just the quality control either, it's also the unique manufacturing process that they use on the discs. They use a manual spacer (between the 2 layers) that is applied and then removed during the manufacturing process. The others do not use this system (although they do use a spacer) and hence there can be some complications with certain reading/writing devices when it comes to the layer seperation of the disc.

to the original poster i think those disk would work i just ordered a spindle of 20 and they work great but they are covered under a limited lifetime warranty you can read a little more about them here http://www.verbatim.com/products/detail.cf...FC3470F9DADFAD1
