Bit-Tech First Look: Lian Li XB01

From bit-tech.net: [QUOTE] We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of our review sample of the Lian Li XB01 for a few weeks now and were practically brimming with excitement when the delivery man brought this unassuming black and orange box through our door. Does it work as expected? Does the 360 fit perfectly? Does it make it any cooler or any quieter? Is it worth the upgrade? So many questions, so little time.
And here it is, the XB01 in all it's glory. For those looking for a little scale, the rear exhaust fan is of the 120mm variety - needless to say its more than twice the size of a standard Xbox 360 case. The fan is 12V, 0.27A and comes with a 3-pin Molex connection. We tried looking for details on this and the reports across the net vary - but it shifts around 56 CFM and is between 22-25 dB at 1,300-1,500RPM.
At full speed that's not silent, but it's a decent airflow for something a lot quieter than the original 70mm 360 fans. It's worth noting though that the 360 dynamically scales the speed according to the internal temperatures anyway, so it'll likely often run a lot less than full.
Other than our concerns about fingerprints and sprung hatches, the XB01 certainly seems to be a very strong, durable case on the face of things. Every panel fits together securely and all edges are all well machined. While we criticise the flaps, we have to admit they fit well and are magnetically held in place keeping things neat and flush. Hey, was wondering when one of you would post about this.. looks like a sweet case, I think I will be picking one up.
There is a more in-depth look at engadget.com -- couple weeks back I think.. to lazy to look it up.

I'm 6,1" and when I die this would the perfect size coffin. It's a bit large to store my 360 hardware though. Just my thoughts.

Still the same opinion as many others... this case is horribly ugly, and not that thoughful at all.

This will ruin Lian Li, still going to be failures and no warranty to fix them. Cant believe they would even touched this hardware. bad move, M$ crap hardware is going to hurt them in long run
This thing doesn't even hold a candle to half the case mods done by members here.

it looks ok for a computer case, but i think this is only for someone that would like to add liquid cooling to the x360 and nothing more...

I wouldn't use it if it was free and installed for me. I really like the looks of the 360, why ruin it?

Said it before and 'll say it again.
Anyone can slap a tiny board into a huge cavernous box and make it run cool.
Hell you don't even need the box, just sit the damn board on a brick and run a fan over it.

It's a good idea to improve the xbox 360 case, but why does it have to be so ugly?

Yeah, but since you got it for free you could remove it and sell it.
Seriously though, this thing is extremely ugly.

This is about the third or fourth time this has been on the front page and each time it has received a less than warm reception. Lian Li should actually listen to peoples comments and change the design accordingly.
+1 for fugly.

um, that alone would completely kill the deal for me - why make a giant case when you can still obtain improved cooling with a smaller case.
you could get an even bigger case though - just nail the 360 components to the wall and call the room you are sitting in your "case" - then you could say that your 48 inch ceiling fan is "cooling your 360"

As far a ugly goes yes it does look nasty but as we've seen time and time again a little paint a clear window and some lites would make a nice looking PC mod.
I'm on my 7th RROD and will say that the over all cooling aspect of this case is as appealing as it was from day one COOLING above all. The aftermarket fans are wonderful but even with those products the temperatures still run a little to hot for my tastes.
It will be nice to see what kind of case mods pop up on the internet over the next couple of months and yes i do plan on getting one i believe in airflow for hardware call me nuts but i like hardware running no higher then 110F

big and ugly. a little over priced too. might as well buy a $65 pc case with the lights and fans included! a little modding and im sure a 360 could go in it.
oh yeah.. i think "unboxing" articles are just among the gayest things on the internet.. besides gay porn.

Yeah this thing is ugly. My rosewill case I bought from Newegg for $40 looks better. But, I think everyone is missing the point though. I think it's purpose is for airflow. That little 360 case aint' cutting it. Albeit, other factors apply.

wow, $108, damn, that is quite a bit considering the new arcade version is $199...
after designing my own case i now see why ms and lian li did a bunch of stuff they did, but i think lian li should have been able to come up w/ something much better as their pc cases are usually very good. the main issue now is the hdd and the lian li design kills any ideas of swapping that or going to a friends. personally like my design much better

, much more home theater looking, which is exactly what i want, only part that is a pita is the hdd.
i am sure these will be on discount rather soon.

How the hell do people get that unlucky to be on their 7th Box? Do you play your XBox in a furnace room or something? lol. I have 4 360's setup in my shop for instore play, and they are on 8-10 hours a day, everyday, 6-7 days a week. 1 is almost launch, 1 is a bit later, 1 is revised heatsink/fan and 1 is a latest one with the Liteon drive, and I have only had the launch one RROD on me, XClamp fix and its been going still to this day, 6 months later. They systems are beat on by kids all day long, reading dirty discs with fingerprints on them, 2 of them fell 3 feet straight down when the table collapsed, and still work. Sorry about having to go through 7 boxes man, luck of the draw.
O ya, the case, sucks. LOL. I would only consider one of those if I was going to try and jam a Wii and a PS2 or something inside the system with the 360.

Big Case indeed but I wouldn't say it's ugly. I think 360 owners are mostly accustomed to the smallish 360 case but you have to remember this has caused a lot of problems because the case can't get rid of the GPU Heat (bad solder, DVD drive above it etc).
It would be quite nice to have it for a modding project, water cooling on a Jasper sounds like a great idea, lots of possibilities for modding to with windows, lights etc. If your not happy with the design make your own. But imho the bigger the case the more room for better and more organised cooling and cable management.
