Hey Guys,
Great work

i will crack on and do some more Gameboy vids this week
PS - I was just wondering if you have managed to sort out the boxart display for all the Jap games we have on the NES????

I got some TG16 stuff up already in the main (top-part of the) thread. I was just too lazy to post it here until it was done.
By sorted out, do you mean is it included? Yes it is

UPDATES:
Okay..... that's all I'm getting done this weekend!
Got the TGCD vids uploading right now.
I'm going to be wrapping up the Atari LYNX next weekend too. I may need help with a few videos for that and I'll need you guys to tell me if I'm missing anything.
Looks like there are a small number of HQ boxarts at
THE COVER PROJECT as well. I'd be mighty appreciative if somebody could download them and crop the box fronts from them for me. If you do, don't resize them. I'll take care of that myself.
Later!
~Rx
EDIT: Got the TGCD videos up there as well now. Also notice I uploaded "SAVES". Put these in the E:\SAVES\ directory on your box and you'll never get the pop-up screen before the game plays unless you press X to start the game on purpose. I always hated that the first time you play a game it had to write the save info. These saves match my naming conventions perfectly, so if you've run your roms through the datfiles to match the Artwork/Videos, the saves will work perfectly for you too.

Cool man. Thanks!
I probably will end up cutting off the LYNX stuff just because it won't match the rest of the boxarts and I doubt that TCP will have every LYNX boxart up there in that quality any time soon.
I won't be able to do much on it until Saturday anyhow. Maybe somebody could crop that out for me to
Either way, saves me the time of downloading them now.
Much appreciated,
~Rx
EDIT: pCeSlAyEr pointed out to me that I still had the old crappy version of John Madden DUO CD in my pack. He fixed it for us. I've uploaded that video separately and put it in the TG16/CD section of my thread. I've tried to upload the fixed version to megaupload, but it finishes the upload in about a minute and gives me the exact same link as the old download (so it obviously thinks I'm trying to upload the same file, which I already knew megaupload did, but since the new video is a few MB less than the old one the zip should be different ,so the fact that it does this confuses me).
Anyways... I'll be keeping the separate video download link up there for about a week before I take it down for anyone who grabbed the old set. Get it now before it's gone forever!
Looks like I'll have to upload the fixed set to Rapidshare (blah!) Expect it up by the weekend.

Hey guys. I was wondering if somebody could start ripping images for me from thecoverproject.net?
I thinking the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and the Sega Master System are a good place to start.
Even better if somebody could crop the images so there is just the box front. I'm really going to try to kick that work into high gear and get these artwork packs ready for release and this HQ work is really a great addition.
Thanks ahead of time if you can do this for me.

Hey, I've just been checking out the new enhanced artwork for NES (06-09-09) and have found that some of them are a little wrong. For example:
the box front artwork for Mr. Pacman is actually Ms. Pacman,
Mario Fantasy adventure is Final Fantasy I,
Mario Adventure is Super Mario Bros. 3,
Final Fantasy II - Return of Lich is Final Fantasy I,
Fantasy of Darkness is Final Fantasy I,
Extra Mario Bros is Super Mario Bros.,
Dragoon X Omega II is Final Fantasy,
Mario in Time is Ticking is Super Mario Bros I,
Pixel Kingdom is Super Mario Bros I,
SouthPark Zelda is Legend of Zelda,
Timescrisis - Fall of the Moon is The Legend of Zelda,
XXXX is Super Mario Bros. I,
Zelda Challenge - Outlands is The Legend of Zelda,
Zelda's Embrace - A New Legend is The Legend of Zelda
These are just the ones I've seen and some are probably intentional but they look great thanks for getting them all up.
ressurectionx
Jun 13 2009, 01:14 PM
Yeah... actually, all of those are intentional. You could remove them if you'd like.
On Update Hacks, I used the boxart for the game that was originally hacked (otherwise, there wouldn't be any boxart for them).
On my system, I have these types of games sorted exactly how they are sorted in the spreadsheets, so I think they look quite good that way. I could see where that wouldn't look right though if you just have all of your roms in a central directory.
Thanks for pointing that out though. It was all intentional though in that regard. If you see any other problems let me know.
Later,

Oh.... thanks for those links Ultimate509! I'm going to get cracking on the 2600 this weekend after I wrap up a few other things and get the LYNX work done.

Jun 13 2009, 07:33 PM
I there a new hack actually called Mr. Pacman?
Hey Rx,
great idea with the "SAVES" option. I was almost going to ask mabmab if there was a way to globally turn off the initial menu, or just click on every damn game to get rid of it.
how did you do it...?
ressurectionx
Jun 13 2009, 09:18 PM
How did I do it? LOL
I actually played every game to get the title/action shots and they were made. (Well... something happened and I had to go back and re-play about 200 of them to get the complete set.
The only problem is that it will have my TV's size on it, but with madmab's ability to adjust the ratio for every game when you change it, that shouldn't really be a problem. It will just take a minute or two for your system to re-write all of these saves.
I basically just FTP'd the saves to my box and deleted any Save State information, made sure every rom I had has a matching save, zipped them up and shot them over to Megaupload.
I'm sure there could probably be a more sophisticated way to code the emu auto-write basic settings to the games, but there's really no need with these saves packs. I pretty much have the save info for every game on my lists from my testing (or plan to have all of them by the time I'm done anyhow).
~Rx
P.S. Yeah.... Mr. Pac-Man is a pretty good hack of Ms. Pac-Man on NES if you like blue borders and a more masculine Pac-Avitar.

EDIT: Somebody at Megaupload must like all the traffic I'm sending their way. I don't have to wait at all anymore for downloads. I don't even have a free account, let alone a paid for one.
Either I'm really lucky, or I'm being watched more than I'd care to think.
Either way, it makes the 73 seconds I have to wait at Rapidshare all that much more painful.

EDIT 2:
Crash,
Alright... I've just gone through and converted and renamed the 2600 scans. Only missed two (don't worry, I got them and converted them). It will probably be a while before I have an official Atari 2600 release, but you can be sure your work wasn't wasted because all of these images will be in there.
I'm keeping track of the dates that I get all of the artwork from that site so we can always go and get the new ones as they come out.
Ultimate509,
I hope to get to your packs sometime today as well. Thanks again for those! You hadn't started the 2600 gathering yet, did you? Would hate to think of sensless doublework.
Xmodder deluX,
I looked and I don't have a patch for that. Unfortunately, it's against the forum rules to give you the rom. You can be assured that if I don't have the patch that this is available. Try to find a goodset or nointro torrent somewhere and I'm sure it will be in there.
Everyone,
If you would like to help gather artwork at thecoverproject and crop the box fronts, please let me know. Let's make it clear what we're doing too so two people aren't collecting the same artwork.

Jun 17 2009, 02:13 AM
Great man. I'll download them and keep them on the to-do list. I've really immersed myself in the Atari 2600 testing now and I don't really have time for much else when I focus on a project like this. I have a few other things like testing some madmab edition stuff, and integrating stupot1's 60 or so GBA videos still. These are the types of things that I like to have to work on when there seems to be down time and nobody else is really moving on anything, so I'll keep them in the boxart to-do folder I've got.
So we have...
SMS
NES
TG16/CD
Atari 2600
Atari 7800
Atari LYNX
I would say anything that there is an XPORT emu for pretty much. Genesis/Sega CD/32x would be a good start. Atari 5200/800/XE would be nice as well.
I would say SNES, but I believe between Sotu and others we have a lot of HQ boxart available to us already so we might want to wait on that. I've seen some of the touchups that Sotu has done and they really look great.
Thanks for the help crash,

To anyone collecting covers from thecoverproject site make sure when theres 2 options "original & custom" that you choose original those are the real retail covers for instance someone uploaded the Fds covers 1 page back and those are custom made by an uploader..dont know if Resx minds or not but I think having all the original covers for any games would be alot better...

Okay......
Who wants to help out on 2600 videos?
I'm not done testing for a while, but I've made it very clear what is needed so far.
Here's the
SPREADSHEETI've eliminated every clone. (There were a few that were good enough to warrant another video, but not many at all).
We will need some US licensed videos, but primarily we will need videos for hacks, prototypes and homebrew. Some of the homebrew and hacks are actually better than any of the orignial games for the system.
The videos should be easy to create for those who have been making videos for newer systems. About 95% of games don't have a "Title sequence", so there will be no need to take two videos and splice them together.
Any takers? Give me your email in a PM and I'll give you access to the spreadsheet so people don't do double work.
Later,
~Rx
EDIT: For most of the games I think a 20 second shot is more than sufficient. Games like Venture II might benefit from some splicing of different action shots, but many of the games are just a single screen and anything more than 20 seconds would probably be redundant.

UPDATES:
Nearly finished with the SNES synopsis. I just have some more translations to add (to the Xtras set as well as the synopsis).
Then I'm going to see if there are any good hacks to add. Hopefully there are a lot less than on the NES.
I've still got some re-organizing to do with the current roms as well as adding new roms.
Then, I've decided, that I'm going to re-test everything in XPORT/Madmab's emulator and give findings for both emulators in the spreadsheets.
I also have to change the names of the roms with the "." character in them since XPORT emus don't read the period. This way we can use the same roms and Xtras for both emulators in the future.
Then I have to add the HQ boxart from Sotu/thecoverproject.
And also syncronize both artwork sets....
Then we'll have to get somebody to make the missing videos. (Hopefully there won't be too many)
I'm sure there's more misc stuff to do along the way....
Soon there will be a completley new Xtras pack for both emulators.

Period what period? I thought I fixed that... What exactly happens again?
ressurectionx
Jul 14 2009, 12:32 AM
It's alright if you didn't. I already took care of it and left out periods in all the other emus.
If there was a period at the end of the romname, the artwork won't match the game because it can't have a period as the last character of the folder. Periods within the name are alright though.
It was only 7 or so games that I had this problem with. They've been renamed.
I thought it was a big deal to go renaming stuff when I first put the SNES Xtras up there, but so damn much has changed since then that people are going to have to download entirely new sets when I get them complete anyways. Figured now was a good time to get everything working right in both emus.

Jul 15 2009, 12:30 AM
oh ok. Maybe it was the "space" at the end of a filename issue that I fixed. But I'll double check. There were a couple of things I did way back when on atarixlbox.
ressurectionx
Jul 15 2009, 12:46 AM
Like I said, no worries. I've avoided this problem by removing all periods from all romnames for the sets. The only time it was a problem was on the 7 SNES games that ended with a period. Now that I'm doing a complete overhaul, changing these weren't a problem.
So..... adding the periods for me would be MAJOR work and would ruin all the datfiles that are out there so far. No need to fix it if it's not going to be used.

Would anybody be interested in collecting the HQ boxart on thecoverproject for the SNES?
http://www.thecoverproject.net/view.php?cat_id=8Sotu gave me a pack, but they're all 375 pixels wide and we can go up to about 675 pixels wide without any memory problems. I asked him if he had the higher quality images still, but he hasn't gotten back to me for a few days on that.
I'm really getting close to a brand new SNES release, but I want to add as many HQ boxarts as possible. These would need to be downloaded and cropped, and then resized to be 675 pixels wide.
Any help you guys could give would be great. It's a rather large project compared to the Atari ones some of you helped me out with before. Perhaps you could claim letters to work on so nobody is doing double work. Please grab the Japan boxarts too since they're included in the set.
Thanks,

Awesome to hear that you got them all MM. I forgot that we talked about this before.
You know me... my mind is all over the map on this project.
It wasn't until I started working on the SNES synopsis about 90 days ago that I even thought I'd get back to the SNES this soon for a revamp. (BTW... I've completed the synopsis from start to finish on my own in that time

) The only thing I would need to add to it now is new games that Stupot1 wants to add, or anyone else for that matter, before the Final set goes out. The only things that would/could be missing are European games that don't have a US alternative or Japan games that I missed. Possibly some good hacks/translations that aren't on Romhacking too, but usually there aren't many, if any, of those.
There is some headline info missing on most games. I will go back and add that to the document when we have search/filter capability because being able to scroll through games and check the videos will be the easiest way to figure out stuff like "Genre".
Don't worry, before I put the HQ boxart in the set I will go through tcp.com and see if we're missing anything.
Thanks again Sotu for giving me the images you had, but since we can go higher on the pixel ratio than originally thought, I figure we should get the highest quality we can cram into the packs.
Pretty soon we'll have one more major system completely done.
Now only if we could get past that damn Gameboy project I'd really feel like my work here is almost done.

Now only if we could get past that damn Gameboy project I'd really feel like my work here is almost done.

Split it up... GB, GBC, and GBA.
I know it took me 4-5 months just to go thru the no-intro GBA stuff back when I worked on it. Sad thing is I'm sure all that is outdated and numerous ROMs have come out since. But at least the GBA releases are pretty much dead these days.

I'm pretty much done rom-wise.
It's just that we still need almost 500 videos and need to get a synopsis with about 3,500 games completed.
Two MAJOR tasks.
I'm only fluent in one of them and if I do the synopsis on my own it will probably take at least three months.
Stupot1 made the vids for all Gameboy games that needed them. pCe made about 20 games for GBA so far.
MM's been caught up with real-life stuff outside of the Game Genie NES codes and anyone else making videos has pretty much disappeared. Summer time, yanno...
I will say this though....
I'm NOT adding any hacks or translations to the Xtras on GB/GBC/GBA unless they are really f-ing stellar stuff. If 3,500 plus Gameboy games isn't enough for a video game junkie to get their fix they can move right on to the 1,000 plus SNES or the 1,500 plus NES sets.
This is kinda why I want to work on Xtras for the O2 and Neo Geo pocket for a while. They're child's play compared to what's been put together so far and might give me some time to regroup and tackle the Hydra.

UPDATES:
Got quite a bit done on the NES synopsis for the beta release. I want to get it all done before the release comes out. I've also found a few more games we'll probably need videos for after I test them, assuming they work and aren't clones. I like doing the synopsis thing in-depth because it makes me put games in their correct categories and helps me find anything we've missed. If you've got any NES games I've missed, please let me know.
SNES synopsis is basically done. Just a few more tweaks here and there and a few more roms to test before I put that up. I think in the next week we should see the finished product of both of these.

Hey Rx,
Remember we had a problem in the snes art work pack. All the box arts had added black space on the top in the bottom. The original emu-movies ones didn't have this and it was a matter of replacing them again.
You said it might have been something that happened in one of your converters.
I hope you remembered that. of course, there should be no problem with the ones that now have "super HQ art" for them.
