FYI for CD based systems (like PSX, Sega CD, and TG16 CD) the synopsis code will look for the closest name match. So I would suggest the game name and then the SLUS id for maximizing the chances that the user will get a hit..

For example

Grand Theft Auto SLUS_9999

In the synopsis would get a match on a .cue, directory, or .bin name of...

Grand Theft
SLUS_9999
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto SLUS_9999

Well I think you get the idea.

mobygames example

i can grab these SLPS-02430's if that's what you mean? some have several tho.

I just got another killer trojan on my computer. It's been acting funny all day.

I think it's because I didn't update to the newest Java before using the .CUT file creator and the image converter.

Well.... I probably won't lose any work, but I'm going to have to rebuild my PC again and then find out how many programs are ruined.

fingers crossed. you had some backups i hope:)

I feel for ya. One of my machines got hit last week. I've actually got pretty good at irradicating these suckers. This new one was even more clever than the usual suspects.. It still doesn't beat the monster I got last year.

Anyways the key, if you know what your doing is to have a PCEboot disc so you can edit the registry and delete the proper files without the virus interfering.

Nonetheless I managed to recover. The thing screwed up my remove desktop functionality and that took a while to get back going. laugh.gif So now I have that pc the same way my other one is to help reduce the odds of contracting a virus.
Pulsemasta
I got this Virus the other day that kept telling me I had a virus and that I needed to download and pay for this anti virus program, it wouldnt let me ctl, alt, delete or open msconfig or anything.... I ended up booting in safemode and found out where it was located, then I deleted enough of it to run a scan of my computer to get the rest off...
ressurectionx
Man.... my last one was mid-to-late September. That was the worst one I've ever seen and it reinstalled itself twice after reformatting the C drive. Somehow it kept reinstalling itself from the hidden folders on my D & F drives.

I'm really hoping that this one isn't as clever, but I see that it is rated a 5 on a scale of 0-5 for danger, so I'm not too hopeful.

Except for the PC emulators I was using to make videos as well as the Camcastia screen recorder, I have all of these programs backed up on a thumbdrive, so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll also have to re-download BombBloke's scripts, but both of them were new as of today so it's not like I've had them that long anyways.

The real bitch of it is that I have absolutely no clue what triggered this at all. It's really weird. When I would visit romcenter (once for an update, and a few times to get ideas about how to make proper datfiles), I got some nasty popup ads that would just not let me close the window. I was really getting pissed at the site for putting such obtrusive ads, but now I'm 99% it was the virus (don't know why it was only happening at romcenter though......????)

The only other thing I did differently in the last 24 hours was making .CUT files and using BB's image sorter. I have heard that you should always keep Java updated because it has some pretty easily exploitable windows for hackers to get through once it's out of date. I don't know if I had an auto-update turned on for it.

Other than that, I did not install anything new besides a few PC console emus, but that was over a week or two ago.

This one bothers me... just because I didn't install anything that created it. Somehow, somebody exploited my PC some other way.

I'll keep you up to date. I already backed up bookmarks and FlashFXP directories. I'm installing Windows now after a full format. When I get the mobo setup stuff and some firewall/antivirus stuff up I'm going to run the online kaspersky antivirus. It was the only antivirus I could find that was able to detect every single trace of the last virus (even in the system folders on my extra hard drives).

Then I'll install all the stuff from my thumbdrive and get what I need still online. I will not run a single executable that's on any of my drives as they're likely corrupted now. I just hope it didn't somehow infect the thumbdrive. It was connected to the PC at the time. It was last time and it was fine, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Assholes...... The absolute antithesis of what we are and what we stand for.

They're hackers that are out to manipulate and destroy all in the name of greed and the almighty dollar.

It makes me sick to my stomach.
Pulsemasta
Yeah, I have never gotten any viruses like that *knock on wood..

Usually all the viruses I get are just an inconvenience more than anything, they never reformat drives... that would suck as I have nothing backed up :-/
wimpyRBX
what about covers, synopsis's etc?
hooe this doesn't put the project behind on time, even more i hope it doesn't make you loose hope. i so hate virused etc.. :-/
Pulsemasta
that would of been devastating if you got a virus and it wiped your drive clean... hope you have back ups and what not :-P

ressurectionx
Nah... I ain't worried. I'm a virus vet. cool.gif

This is probably my 30th reinstall over the years.

Unless this is some new super virus I've never heard about before, the only thing I lost were any executable files I'd downloaded since my last backup of programs I regularly use (which, unfortunately, was in early October).

It's just annoying. It's mostly the emulators and the screen catpure software I'd used to make videos for the earlier systems. It's also any scripts that I was using. I'm 99% that the Xtras are completely safe and sound.

I just can't run any unguarded execuatble files until I virus check everyting with Kaspersky and a few other programs. It sets me back at least a day there, plus if I need to make videos again and I need to find stuff again to do it. That is, if it doesn't get re-infected, which September proved to me is a possibility if I'm not careful. Easy going is the way until I'm sure that I'm completely safe.

It'll be cool.

~Rx

PS.... If it did wipe my drive clean, all it's got is the PSX games and the stuff you guys have gotten to me that haven't been integrated yet. I've got several XBoxes with a majority of the other stuff on them. Much of it is way more up to date than any of my links online.
wimpyRBX
glad to hear it! smile.gif

Load from a live linux cd it has support for ntsf and you can see all your data. It will automount your flashdrive and put it on your desktop for easy access. Your internal hdds will be right there on the menu if you have them installed on your computer. If the virus is there it will be dead trying to communicate with the linux operating system. They will not speak the same language. Ubuntu is free and has this capability just download and burn to disk. It will have the option of installing to your computer or running as a live cd. You will only need to run as a live cd to go check on or backup any files. The virus wont be able to spread in the linux environment. You can also find ubuntu builds that run straight off a flash drive as a full blown operating system. This is a useful tool to keep around in your tool box.
ressurectionx
Yeah.... could you send me a Ubuntu setup to put on one of my flash drives? I've tried to setup a flash drive for it but I coudn't figure it out.

I'm sure my other drives are fine. I only formatted my 80 GB C drive. I've got a few terrabytes that are mirrored on other drives that I didn't touch. The only threat they pose is trying to do a system restore from the D F or G drives. I think I've taken care of that now and I'll virus scan the hell out of everything now.

Also, over at the emumovies forums there are discussions on making Amiga videos. I have an FTP account with them, so I can grab what they have done so far.

Thanks for the file Bigby. Will check it soon. Carnage by Bob has sent a collection, too. I'll be back to you when I'm done fixing that xbox.

Aw. Good luck Rx. I hope this will not be too difficult.

Running a test scrape now. Seems to work flawlessly on gathering all information available, cover(s) and all screenshots if any.

PSX scrape started right now. Will update.

Glad you guys are still chugging along without me. cool.gif

It doesn't look like any data was lost at all.

Just annoyances.

It did try to reinstall itself from the system restore so it's one of the nastier ones like I had back in September. Fortunately I've been through it all before, so I know what to do. If I'm careful it won't get back on my system.

I'll probably be running all the antivirus/antimalware for the next 24 hours or so. I can still do some organizational work in between if the PC runs quick enough, but I won't be installing any software until the fixers are done doing their thing.

In the mean time, gotta figure out those dats man.... I'll keep ya updated.

Although it's a pain in the neck I would recommend setting up another "user" with limited rights and set-up internet explorer to run under that ID. That way most exploits won't be able to get in because it's not running under admin rights.

It's possible to run a program as another user without having to "switch users".

Dude i got this same type of bastard malware on my pc 2 months ago. I was looking to dl some free wallpapers, all of a sudden acrobat reader popped up, loaded like a pdf was about to open then closed, then my background changes saying i was infected with tons of viruses/malware, cpu running at 100%.Evrytime i tried to press ctrl alt delete a screen would pop up saying that the script i was trying to run was infected. Evrything i tried to do came up as infected mad.gif

Thank god for system restore and safe mode. Booted to an earlier time frame and all restored back to normal.

Thanks Blue...

Yeah, that's the bastard I got. It was giving me very "Windows-like" error messages saying that I have a trojan virus and that I should buy some software to remove it. It also hijacked my screensaver and desktop, completely removed Adaware and disabled Malwarebytes and spybot. It won't even let me go to their sites anymore and tells me that there was a server error. There's a lot of different versions of it, but they have a lot of similarities. This is the second time I've gotten this type of virus, but I have no clue what I did at all to trigger it this time.

The scary thing when you have multiple hard drives with all this info is that a simple reformat of the C drive doesn't take care of it. It has infected more than a few of my EXE files on the other drives including ZSNES, the WMV to XMV converter, pretty much any keygen I had since they're very easy for these types of trojans to exploit and it left a ton of corrupted files just hanging out in hidden system folders just waiting to be triggered. One false move and one of those little bastards will start repopulating all over and I'll have to reformat the C drive and start from scratch where I did about this time last night.

Anyways..... I don't want to speak too soon that it won't hurt any work I've done, but everything does look okay. These things seem to just infect executables, not any files that would be run with the Xtras. (Ex: They wouldn't even know how to target an XBE like they do the EXE files, images and videos and txt files are safe, etc....)

Oh well... only one day down so far and the loss of my killer setup. I'll have to start from scratch. I used to have about 30 Firefox tabs constantly open for different sites I used and got real comfortable with all of their locations so it was easy for me to jump from one area of work to another. I'll have to redo that and reinstall all of my programs and try to get replacements for programs that have been rendered unusable or even dangerous. This probably only set me back 2 days or so.

I'll try to catch up with this thread and what I need to do with what people have sent me tomorrow.

Thanks for your continued work everyone. This is going to be great. cool.gif

wimpyRBX
Some downloads for you guys. Everything from mobygames.com.

Each game has it's own folder with covers, screenshots and synopsis. There might be a few images missing.
Synopsis.txt in the main console dir is a complete synopsis for all the games.
There is also a "!" folder with ALL synopsises in a single folder.
The allinfo.txt pr game is just to show synopsis info + addition info not included, but can be used.

Some folders might look very strange due to a format error i had, but it should be very few. (in these cases check the synopsis file to get game name).

* amiga-cd32, atari-5200 and intellivision
* atari-8-bit, apple2 and msx

Some more systems will be up shortly and some abit later on.

* atari-st, playstation, cpc and amiga

Ah... I didn't see this post.

So when you're using all of these sites you're getting upload speeds of over 10MB a second too? Good. I was worried the federalies were onto me or the virus still had some lingering effects.

Wish I saw that earlier though. I had mediafire uploading that for about a half hour before I cancelled it. I guess I'll try there again.

We're going to seriously have to rethink how to distribute this stuff. I'm don't have time to be wasting a day everytime I have a file to upload since there will easily be 50 or 60 uploads if we go the file hosting way.
wimpyRBX
no file hosting services please.. tens (if not hundreds) of different downloads is not the way to go.
do you have any idea how big it will be approx?

hence the idea for a webpage. no rule against linking to a ressurectionxtras website and have the links there instead ? if that's against the rules it would be illegal to even link to google from here tongue.gif

EDIT: for example ressurectionxtras.net costs are mere $12 or so a year (i'll donate that if money is of any issue hehe). and i have hosting for the webpage itself (not the actual downloads).

I like your thinking, but I almost got banned here a while back after I was arguing against one of the mods because they removed my link to romcenter since it had links to roms. Plus it would be out of the question to link to any t0rrents that had roms or XDK code in them if it were mentioned here.

Maybe a site is the way to go though since you have hosting abilities. People will just have to Google it.

give me a few days and i'll make an example page for you too look at. if you like it we'll talk more about it.

when it comes to download options we should really just settle for torrents and make sure we have 3-5 core people seeding at all times. or did you have anything else in mind ?
ressurectionx
I wanted t0rrents as my main mode of distribution, but there's so many damn rules everywhere (including here) so I can't just post the links here.

Another thing is finding a place that we are allowed to torrent them. UG is where i'm established with 700GB upload to 480GB download, but they don't allow XDK code either. Their sister site does, but now that I want in they've disabled invites and brought everyone's invites down to zero. Even if I could con my way in somehow, nobody else that wasn't already a member would be able to get the Xtras there.

if you want to make this approcheable for every wouldn't it serve best to put it on a public t0rrent tracker ?

I suppose. Don't you think that would lead to about 10,000 leaches for ever 10 seeders though?

QUOTE

Yes! sleep.gif
I think "File hosts" like mega upload is best for now (if we can get them to work blink.gif )
You can upload about 900mb at a time there, and that is fine, to guaranty it being download-able with no need for seeds or ratios.

Of course, These will be t0rrented (somewhere) eventually. So I say we have both. (Cause the way we have been doing it with megaupload seem best for xbox-scene.)

ressurectionx
So are you having the same problem with megaupload MM? I mean, is it telling you that you're uploading anywhere from 3MB to 13MB a second?

I've had problems with these sites before in the last few months, but this is completely new to me and I'm wondering if it's something that I did when I started the PC from scratch after the virus.
wimpyRBX
Well you can ofcourse do both.. How big will it be anyways ? approx ?
ressurectionx
I couldn't even begin to guess. Without roms/CDs etc, maybe 50GB..... Maybe 100GB.... I don't know. Probably a lot more when the videos for the Arcade games are in there. It's impossible for me to figure that out without going to extensive work because of how my directories are setup.

I'm guessing that for the NES, if you just included artwork and videos it would be 5 or 6 GB.
wimpyRBX
lest say 50GB then.. with 1GB max upload pr file. That would entail creating 1GB rar files and uploading each of the 50 files.. I'd say that's a crazy lot of work to distribute it. Not to even begin talking about Roms.

It would take "from now 'till march" just to do that work correctly. If you guys feel like it join IRC to chat about distributing. If the forum is so strict we should avoid having the thread closed or even worse banned. This thread is about the xtras itself and not distributing afaik smile.gif
Mega Man (?)
I'll look into it wimpy.

Rx,
Yes, I am having the exact same problems you are having. I Googled it and someone said if you download their "tool bar" available on megaupload site, that it fixes the problem. I have been messing around with it for about 5 minutes and I have yet to see what it is all about.

EDIT: I don't think I want to post anymore. Look! I am on a lucky number! muhaha.gif .....haha....just kidding... tongue.gif
