I've decided to abandon the Atari 800.
Stupot did about 800 videos, and only about 400 of them match what I already had, which means finding 400 more boxart and doing 400 more synopsis entries (most synopsis for 800 hadn't even been started really). This would add at least 3 weeks time to the project, and since I never played the 800 before I'm not all that interested.
This work wasn't in vain however. I will be releasing all the unfinished 800 stuff in the 2nd torrent which also includes all the WMVs and pre-resizing artwork, so anybody can then feel free to put the Xtras pack together on their own and share.
I'm also thinking that this is the way to go with PSX for now as well. The torrent will be much smaller without PSX CDs, and since a large amount of games don't even work anyways it's not really worth it in my opinion. Not to mention there are about 1,400 games for the system and at least half of them suck pretty bad. I will included the 800 or so WMV files we have for PSX in that second torrent.
I may decide to put together a limited list of PSX games for us though.
I will also be abandoning the DOS project as well. To put together a good DOS collection could take a long time, and at this point we don't even have any videos or synopsis for it. Again, this is another project I hope people will take up when I'm done.
Intellivision and Amiga..... (Carnage and waal)
Time is running out for me to get things put together. I don't want to rush you guys and I know you're doing great work here, but I'm thinking it would be best to have them as separate downloads when you guys have them up to speed. They can be Xtras additions when they're ready.
My apoligies if this information is a let down to anybody. I just don't have the desire to do much more on this project. I gotta get the stuff ready for upload so I can finally move on to something else.
Later,
~Rx
EDIT: I'll also need those GB/GBC non-working videos in a pretty big hurry. Thanks to anyone who's working on them to get the last 40 or so videos we need for the project.
Also, I haven't heard from you in a few days wimpy. I was hoping you had that problem with the Faq scraper figured out. It got a ton of stuff, but I know it was missing the Shadowrun faqs for Genesis and a few of the systems don't seem to have as many games covered as I would think there was supposed to be. If we can't figure it out, I'm just going to go ahead and do the gamefaqs you sent me. It's a hell of a lot of stuff, and even if it isn't everything it's a great start if somebody wants to figure it out down the road.

Hey ~Rx,
There's no worry, mate.
Regarding the Amiga collection, I wasn't expecting to finish before the 15 march. It started too late and it's too complex (like it would be for dosXbox... ) for that.
Though I'm nearly done testing and configuring the whd games set (~900...), there's still a lot to do for this computer. Right after I'll take in charge the synopsis with the datas Wimpy scraped and will start working with Danner on the pics I sent him. And Bigby is now ready to produce some nice videos. So we have a lot to do and at this pace I estimate this stuff won't be available until June. At least.
So I don't mind if the amiga xtras come in a second wave. It might bring more people to the site and even arouse more interest for the first wave. Who knows...
I don't know what are Madmab plans about releasing the new Winuaex and of course it's up to him. But I suggest we prepare a small package for this. Say a top 50/100 games xtras. A kind of starter kit. It's just an idea to give support... By the way, I promised to send Gilou similar stuff so...
I know how much you're dedicated to this project and the time it took. As I'm excited to see your releases, I wish you to finally take a rest and to have time to enjoy all this great games and systems. And then, I know I could count on your advices.
Cheers.

Hmm I must have missed your comments on the missing gamefaqs scrape RX.. I'm looking into it now. I did notice that some of the games had similar gameid's and that might be the reason.. like i said, looking into it now :-)
First figuring out why it left out Shadowrun. When that's solved i'll see if it finds more games..
EDIT 1: Seems the Genesis scrape wasn't completed before I sent it

) Which other systems did you think lacked alot of games? Some systems DO lack alot of faqs, but any in particular you noticed?

@ wimpy: Maybe I should look at them again. In all honesty, I really only looked at the Genesis and stopped after Shadowrun wasn't in there and it seemed to only cover a few hundred games. I didn't look at anything else.
How about you tell me how many folders I'm supposed to have for NES, SNES, the Gameboys and Turbo Grafx 16. If they match on my end, we're probably good then.
@ bigby: Bummer.... Most 32x Prototypes don't work for whatever reason on the Box emus. Sometimes I believe they don't work on emus period and require cart format and the actual hardware.
Sorry bout that DM. If you've done the video already stupot, I'll add it in the Xtras anyways just in case.
Only 4 more days open for any romhacking adds. All other adds are closed down.
@ waal: Good to hear you're going to keep on with the project. I'd be happy to have an Xtras update for Amiga in June.
@ Carnage: Same with the Intellivision. Check out how I have things set up for the Xtras and try to get your stuff lined up the same way. I should be around to help out if you have any questions when that time comes.

3D Boxart looks awesome.

EDITED TO ADD:
It would be cool if they were whatever type of file it has to be so the background is invisible. Then, if you wanted your skin to just have the 3D boxart hover over the background it would look great without having a gray rectangle background covering the skin.

About GameFAQs scrape. You do have all my folders.. But it seems Genesis wasn't completed before i sent it over (the second update a few posts back completes it tho).
There was no "code-fault" just an unfinished scrape-run on Genesis, meaning that it should be more complete on the other systems.

You know we're all about 100% accuracy here man.
Could you do me a favor and re-scrape them? If you come up with the same finished results as you did the first time for all systems than we're cool and no need to re-up anything. I'm just not betting on the fact that Genesis was the only system to be impacted by this, even if that is the case.

Sounds good man. There's still some time, but not too much.
I've got a million other things to keep me busy at the moment.
I've got to document the videos that cbagy upgraded in the spreadsheets. There are 500 that I'm keeping out of the roughly 500 he sent my way. There are some alternate versions like Probotector that were removed. Overall, great freakin quality on these. It's a shame he lost so many to a freak accident. I've been there before. It would take a nuclear explosion to make me lost the work that I've done now.
I know that this discouraged cbagy from finishing the set and trust me when I say we all lost out because of it.
All 3D Boxart available for the sets I'm covering have been renamed and integrated.
You've talked to dpolsrod, so you know he's wrapping up the AVGN videos, so I'll get them in when I've got them.
Philo says he should have a couple hundred commercial adds soon. I'm hoping sooner than later, Philo.
I also have to wrap up a few things for the three Atari consoles, and begin figuring out what will be included with the PSX release, given the limited amount of time left. And I'm probably going to put together a best of CoinOPS pack based off of a 1,500 rom datfile from R5, including the videos, and possibly artwork if bigby or somebody else works on that for me.

I, of course, wan't to help out with DosXbox. I'm trying to make changes to it to make sharing setups a little easier. Since the currently used method is a little wacked and I don't like the placement of the .dos files. Other potential additions would be some preset controller configs. Although I've never had to stray to far from the one controller configuration that I use.

Hey cbagy,
I know you said you were going to try to do some more Genesis videos. I was hoping I could request a few I feel need to be replaced above all others. They either had the title screen first, the audio was WAY too loud or soft compared to the rest, or there are some other apparent glitches.
Here's the list:
Gadget Twins
Lotus Turbo Challenge
Magic School Bus
Olympic Summer Games - Atlanta '96
Speedball II - Brutal Deluxe
Spider-Man & Venom - Separation Anxiety
Spider-Man - The Animated Series
Super Off Road
Target Earth
Wayne Gretzsky NHLPA All-Stars
And also a Pirate game: Bug's Life
There were actually a lot more I had highlighted in red that you already took care of. I've got your name filled in the spreadsheet for any videos you've done and I'm going to get them on my box now.
Thanks,

I'm putting together a single Arcade media pack that will cover both FBL 1.3 and CoinOPS R5 in tandem. It will have all the videos, titles and screenshots for every game as well as other artwork extras like marquees, cpanels, and other stuff. It will include ONLY what is needed for the "Best 1,500 of CoinOPS" (minus the console games) as well as the list of preferred roms I put together for FBL.
Thanks to bigby for collecting all the artwork based on the datfiles, and also for filling in the blanks on some missing videos. (We'll have a few more we need done for CoinOPS now if you're still up to it bigby).
Though we do lose about 1GB space on our drives because I had to make alternate videos for the FBL clones, we will gain about 11GB space when I remove the unused HD videos (about 2,400 of them!!!).
I will include the videos I've cut out as WMV files in the 2nd torrent with all the other WMV stuff in case people want to add any games later. I thought I'd get around to that a bit myself, but it doesn't look like that's going to be in the cards.

Hey bigby,
Hope you're reading this
Here's the videos we either don't have, or need to be replaced for the CoinOPS top 1,500 (minus the 300 or so console games):
Need video in HQ (Don't have one):
Asteroids (asteroid.zip)
Light Bringer (lightbr.zip)
The Last Day (lastday.zip)
Bad video (Need HQ replacement):
B Rap Boys (shows long romcheck)
Defender (Can we make it any brighter?)
Gravitar (Can we make it any brighter?)
Ninja Spirit (starts with a long "Player 1 Ready" screen instead of action)
Star Wars (Can we make it any brighter?)
Stargate (Can we make it any brighter?)
Super Cobra (Says "Player 1" for a few seconds instead of going right into action)
Tempest (Can we make it any brighter?)
The Empire Strikes Back (Can we make it any brighter?)
Thundercade (black bars on right and left)
Thanks man. Anything you do would be great. I was hoping on a lot of those vector games we could make the video brighter so it shows up nicely in CoinOPS.

Thanks bigby,
I was going through the remaining MAME videos that weren't being used in the two sets and I saw some good games that hadn't been added to CoinOPS yet and weren't in FBL. This is what I've been doing:
1 Removed all videos with nothing but errors on them.
2 Removed all mahjong/japan board games.
3 Removed all sports games (There are already good ones in the set and these were just redundant)
4 Removed all trivia games (Since they're really hard to figure out the controls)
5 Ran the videos I had against an old set of .84 roms and kept all the matches.
I'm going to try to get through them and see if any of them work well in CoinOPS now.
I'm also going to be going through the 1,500 suggested games for porn stuff because I took for granted there wouldn't be any in there. I know there are at least 4 though after going through stuff yesterday.
I'm also considering the possibility now of adding FBA 1.29 back in and seeing how many more games can be played or if that is just basically a clone emu of FBL.
Later,
~Rx
EDIT: Good news... The FBA-XXX Pro 1.29 romset matches the FBL 1.3 romset nearly 100% and the very games that didn't match up are actually in there anyways. That means no more rom editing for me here.
I'm going to test out Contra and Black Tiger in FBA-XXX 1.29. If they work there after not working in FBL, I may test out other non-working games. If there are any that work in the other emu I will keep both emus in my emulator setup.
EDIT2: Contra isn't even part of FBA 1.29 according to the datfile, and Black Tiger had the exact same problems in FBA as it did in FBL.
I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that makes it worthwhile having FBA-XXX Pro 1.29 on the box over FBL is that when you click the right joystick it will add or remove the "useless" information and give you clean rom-names instead. But it's an emu without video previews and not as streamlined and easy for the end user as FBL is, so that kinda makes the point moot.
There may be more technical arguments out there, but for a novice like me, that's the only thing I came up with.
Oh... and both of these games do work on CoinOPS, so they can just be played there instead.

1,173 folders full of gamefaqs for the NES. All renamed to Xtras names, zipped up and ready to ship.
They look awesome in the new betas

Like I said before, the word wrap works better after somebody has "fixed" the documents by removing all the hard returns from the paragraphs.
Unfortunately, I don't believe this is something that can be done on the fly with a batch file, because there are many areas in most faqs where hard returns are actually desired, like in tables and intentional ones for true paragraph breaks.
This is something that some crazy OCD bastards are probably going to have to tackle someday. I don't think I'll ever be doing this.

Atari 7800 = 9

Colecovision = 30
Neo Geo Pocket, Color = 30

Just did something I didn't think I'd get around to...
Sorted all roms that now work in NestopiaX into the working roms section for NES. I've made note both in the spreadsheet and in the synopsis file that you are to use NestopiaX to play these games.
Spreadsheet is fully updated to show all of this.
I've also gotten screenshots from NestopiaX on some of the games I couldn't get them before, so there's that too.
EDIT: To explain the synopsis thing further, the first line of the synopsis body for these games now says "NOTE: Only playable in NestopiaX", or something to that effect. I prefer this method to keeping the roms that only work in NestopiaX in a separate folder. That's how I did the SNES too. I really should go back into the SNES synopsis and update those entries the same way as well though. With the SNES I actually tested many games in both emus and have the results in the spreadsheet instead of the synopsis. I won't be testing all games in NestopiaX, but you can be sure that the games play in one of the emulators at least if they're not in the non-working section.
That is.... assuming that they don't die on you 80% in like Dragon View did when I was playing it in ZSNESXBox..... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

The xtras i believe have taken 2 - 4 yrs to collect and size,
2 days to convert the lot to 3d, hardly comparable timeframes.
Exactly! If it aint gonna be ready in time for the march 15th Xtra's release, that give me more time to put off adding it into the emu...

Seriously, though. I'd just like to know if it is gonna be doable...

It should be really easy as long as the art is cropped right to the edges of the box. I'll let you know after the weekend is over. I'm not sure if I have the bandwidth to download the box art for all these systems though.

Don't download the boxart from my main thread if you do. Use the link I posted maybe 10 posts above.
I would HATE to see somebody go to trouble on an old and outdated set.
All of the boxart in that zipfile is my FINAL stuff for those systems included.
What we need now is this......
We need somebody to make all the artwork the same size with a good professional artwork program. If we can make all of my 2D artwork uniform, then it's just a matter of slapping a template on a batch run and running all my 2D artwork through the 3D process.
Viola! 3D boxart for every game included in the Xtras!
I LOVE the 3D artwork from Hyperspin, with all of their detailed side art, but it doesn't serve our needs. Many of the Xtras roms (probably 30-35% overall) are hacks, translations, prototypes, unlicensed, pirates and other roms that don't have boxart available. These are covered in the xtras packs with generic boxart created by Gilles9999. (For hacks, I actually used the original game's boxart).
Hyperspin doesn't have any of this because none of the 2D art existed for many of these games until we created it.
Anyways..... I know this isn't an overnight project and it would be foolish for me to think this could be done by release date.
Something for the future......
I'm just laying out a badass template for ya'all.
Now ya'all make me proud when I hang up my stirrups, ya'hear?

I finished my European Megadrive boxart collection this morning in 3d using the template that Bigby has used above. It looks so nice in the emulator even though its only a basic template.
The beauty of this basic template is that it is no bigger than the original artwork, therefore pixel size hasnt increased and even with the conversion to support transparencies the file size has on put on a few kb only. Although larger box artwork with a mirrored effect and a corner edge graphic looks that little bit prettier we have to consider a few things, the artwork has to be available in full (with proper edges), for full sets.
Which i don't think full sets across the board exist.
This edging effect coupled with the mirroring effect also increases files size twice, once in pixel size (to accomodate the mirror effect and edge) and overall kb size is greatly increased.
Untill a decision is made on what artwork gets what treatment seems nothing can be done !
This is down to you RX, make a call.
